A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter

A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter Private, non-profit, no-kill animal shelter, low-cost clinic & training center. Since 1989, we have placed over 30,000 animals into loving homes. A.D.O.P.T.
(203)

is a private, no-kill, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has found homes for over 20,000 pets. We provide a temporary, loving home for dogs and cats that no longer have a family of their own. The animals in our shelter have ended up here for a variety of reasons ranging from abandonment, to rescue from an abusive situation, to owner surrender because they no longer can or want to take care of

them. Our animals are loving, family pets who are desperately awaiting for their forever home. was founded in 1989 by a group of generous volunteers determined to find homes for animals in need. Over the decades, our objective has remained the same: to place animals into permanent, caring homes and advance the humane treatment of animals through education.

Scotty is alll about the toys - soccer balls, ropes, soft toys, hard toys - he loves them all. While Scotty loves all toys equally, he does need to have super chewer toys because anything on the softer side is no match for him! Aside from loving toys, Scotty loves people, getting lots of attention, and of course... treats!

Meet Dr. Pepper, the adorable powerhouse with a personality that packs a punch! Dr. Pepper is a puppy that's full of big boy energy and enthusiasm. He loves romping around and exploring his surroundings.

It's difficult at the shelter for a young boy with so much energy. In training classes, Dr. Pepper is learning his big boy manners. He's extremely intelligent and food-motivated.

Dr. Pepper is eager to find a home where he can burn off that puppy energy and soak up all the love and attention he can get. If you’re looking for a playful, spirited companion to keep you on your toes and fill your life with fun, Dr. Pepper is your guy!

It's not too late! While we've raised over $15,000 for the care of special needs homeless animals, we still have a long way to go.

As shelters are overwhelmed, the most vulnerable animals are often overlooked. A.D.O.P.T. truly values each and every pet during all stages of life.

Join us today in caring for the most vulnerable among us. Together, we can give these animals the lives they deserve.

This is Papa. At 16, Papa was found trembling and weak in a ditch. Papa was underweight and missing almost all of his teeth. An angel found him and brought him to the local animal control where they discovered Papa had an enlarged heart and a Grade 5 murmur. Not having the hearts to euthanize him, animal control called us knowing we are an organization that wouldn’t turn him away.

While terminal, Papa was in no pain, and we strongly felt he deserved to live out his final days in a warm, loving home. While in foster, Papa fell in love with bedding, seeking the coziest place to curl up, and with his foster mom. He was surrounded by people who loved him until the very end.

This care was possible because of supporters like yourself. This , we're giving chances to as many vulnerable animals as possible, but we can't do it without your help.

While Papa was terminal, most homeless pets are not. Every dollar brings us closer to helping these animals find their second chance at life. It's not too late! Join us below:

A.D.O.P.T. Board President Lisa Paschal participates in because, "All pets deserve a loving home. Huntlee and Ellie are rescues who rule our home and our hearts. This year’s proceeds from Giving Tuesday will benefit The Wilbur Fund which provides medical care to homeless pets in need. Every donation helps A.D.O.P.T. provide care to pets until they can be placed in forever homes.”

Obie lived for years outside, tied to a chain. Most of his fur was gone from living with fleas for so long and he had a large protruding mass on his lower body. After being rescued, Obie's mass was successfully removed and the A.D.O.P.T. staff and volunteers nursed him back to health. As you can see, Obie's hair has grown back and he is feeling so much better these days.

A.D.O.P.T. is proud to take in and care for the most vulnerable of animals. This , we need your help to rescue as many of these animals as possible. Join us here ➡ https://adoptgivingtuesday.funraise.org/

We recently rescued Mike and Augustus from a heartbreaking hoarding situation. They were malnourished with severe upper respiratory infections and matting. Without proper nutrition and grooming care, long-haired animals can develop severe matting that includes sores and open wounds, which are breeding grounds for fleas and parasites.

While their initial conditions brought tears to our eyes, Mike and Augustus’s transformations have been stunning to see. This is what is all about – second chances. We’re giving second chances to as many animals in need of extraordinary care as possible, but we need your help. Please join us.

Your gift today benefits our most vulnerable animals.

We recently took in a small boy named Gomez. Gomez had a painful broken femur, and our clinic determined he would require his leg to be amputated in order to fully recover. After a successful surgery, we placed Gomez in a foster home where he could peacefully recover. From here on out, Gomez will receive any care he may need.

Amidst the ongoing surge of strays in recent years, shelters are overcrowded, and animals are staying in shelters longer than ever to find their forever homes. Often times, these animals are in need of extraordinary care. This is for them.

Mr. Pibb is one of the most well-known dogs to stay at A.D.O.P.T., but not many people know his story. He was found at a construction site on the South Side of Chicago with a cancerous mass cell tumor on his neck. We successfully removed the tumor and the rest is history!

As you read this, Mr. Pibb is probably snuggled up in his Mom's lap or playing with his favorite toy. At the same time, there are thousands of pets waiting for the second chance Mr. Pibb got. Join us this in giving second chances to animals in need of extraordinary care.

Athena is a stunning senior that came to us after her owner passed away. Athena was originally adopted from us in 2016 as a kitten.

You may have noticed... but Athena is a lot of cat! She is a sweet, gentle girl looking for a home that is well-versed in caring for a long-haired cat. She needs to be in a home committed to getting her on a healthy diet so she can live a long, happy life with her loving family!

If you're interested in Athena, stop by our shelter during open hours or fill out an application here: adoptpetshelter.org/adoptions

🍁Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁

We are so grateful to our volunteers, supporters, staff, and foster families. You are the reason these animals get love, care & medical treatment before they move on to their forever homes. And thank you to our adopters for taking a chance on an animal in need.

It takes a village to run an animal shelter. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for being a part of our village.

Pinto Bean arrived at our shelter with his adorable blue eye, underbite, and a piece of metal in his stomach. Not only was he in pain, but he was in danger, as the metal could have damaged his organs.

We A.D.O.P.T., we treated him with a successful obstruction surgery which left Pinto Bean feeling so much better.

This , we're raising funds to take in and care for as many special needs animals as possible. As shelters are full, the first animals to be euthanized are often those in need of the greatest care. At A.D.O.P.T., we take in all animals. Join us today. We need your support to continue giving animals like Pinto Bean a second chance.

100% of your gift will benefit our most vulnerable animals. https://adoptgivingtuesday.funraise.org/
