A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter

A.D.O.P.T. Pet Shelter Private, non-profit, no-kill animal shelter, low-cost clinic & training center. Since 1989, we have placed over 30,000 animals into loving homes. A.D.O.P.T.
(393)

is a private, no-kill, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has found homes for over 20,000 pets. We provide a temporary, loving home for dogs and cats that no longer have a family of their own. The animals in our shelter have ended up here for a variety of reasons ranging from abandonment, to rescue from an abusive situation, to owner surrender because they no longer can or want to take care of

them. Our animals are loving, family pets who are desperately awaiting for their forever home. was founded in 1989 by a group of generous volunteers determined to find homes for animals in need. Over the decades, our objective has remained the same: to place animals into permanent, caring homes and advance the humane treatment of animals through education.

Charlotte originally came to us in 2019 after Hurricane Barry hit Louisiana. She was at her previous shelter for 2 years, and came to Illinois hoping for a brighter future. She was adopted, and sadly had to come back since her family was no longer able to care for her.

Luckily, her lovable personality has remained. She loves getting pets, receiving snacks, and trying to bury any chews we give her in any bed or couch that is nearby. She is very dedicated to the art of burying bones! Her fur may be a little bit more gray, but her soul is as vibrant as we remember. Charlotte would love a calm, forever home where her people are home more often than not so she can share all of her love!

429 days… That’s how long Robin has been waiting for his person to find him. That’s over a year of tail wags with no forever home, over a year of playful zoomies with no one to call his own, over a year of being overlooked while he waits for his perfect
match.

Robin is a 2-year-old cattle dog mix with a heart as big as his energy! He’s friendly, playful, smart, and endlessly curious—always ready for an adventure, a game of fetch, or a good ol fashion hug. He’s the kind of dog who will make you laugh every single day, who will keep up with any adventure you throw his way, and who will be your most loyal best friend.

So why has he been waiting so long? We don’t know either. But what we do know is that somewhere out there is his person—someone who sees past the number 429 and recognizes that Robin is so much more than just a long-term resident.

Let’s break the streak. Let’s find Robin his happily ever after. Could that be you? Or someone you know? Please like, share, and spread the word—because every share brings Robin one step closer to home.

Everything about Sam is adorable, from his raspy barks when he wants a treat, to his big floppy ears. He is a senior dog with a lot of s***k left in him, and despite his age he is still really good at giving the puppy eyes! This gentle giant is sure to put a smile on your face with his goofy personality. He is not just a handsome face, he is also very intelligent and already knows sit and shake! Make this good boy a part of your family, and he will be the most loyal friend.

You would never guess by her smiley face, but precious Nala has had a rough go. At 15 years old, she has found herself in a shelter again, due to no fault of her own. Instead she should be spending her older years in a loving, caring home. Nala is so full of life, you would never guess that she is a senior. She is friendly, active, playful, and snuggly - what more could you ask for? She would love a home where she could go on long walks with her people regularly, as she loves to explore! Nana is child- and cat-friendly but would like a home where she is the only dog soaking in your love.

A few months ago, Elmer scored the jackpot going into temporary foster with one of his favorite volunteers!

Being with us for over 1 year, Elmer really needed this time out of the shelter, but he would really love to find a home he can stay in for the rest of his life! His foster says that Elmer and her small cat Jenny often play together and enjoy watching birds and squirrels on the patio. Elmer likes to lay in front of the TV so he can survey his "kingdom". He is a professional lounger, part-time toy player, and always ready to chase laser lights (used in moderation of course).

So if you’re looking to make this big hunk a part of your household, please fill out the application at adoptpetshelter.org/adoptions
