is a private, no-kill, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has found homes for over 20,000 pets. We provide a temporary, loving home for dogs and cats that no longer have a family of their own. The animals in our shelter have ended up here for a variety of reasons ranging from abandonment, to rescue from an abusive situation, to owner surrender because they no longer can or want to take care of

them. Our animals are loving, family pets who are desperately awaiting for their forever home. was founded in 1989 by a group of generous volunteers determined to find homes for animals in need. Over the decades, our objective has remained the same: to place animals into permanent, caring homes and advance the humane treatment of animals through education.

🍂 𝘍𝘢𝘭𝘭 in love with Robin! 🍂

We can't tell you why 1 year old Robin is still at our shelter, but we can promise that we'll spoil him and give him all the love until he finds his forever home!

Cam and Turbo are a bonded pair that must go together. Their previous home stated they are the sweetest little gentleman. They enjoy playing with toys and each other. They love to cuddle together on blankets. During warmer weather they like to lay by the window to bird watch and sun bathe. Cam loves to cuddle in your lap, and Turbo meows when he yawns. They are good with older children. They would enjoy a quieter, slower paced life in their new home.

Look at all these smiling faces thanks to our all-star volunteer Shannon! As you can see in the bowtie pic, Cassidy absolutely loves going to “tricks classes” at our training center. In addition to taking several dogs to training classes each week, Shannon regularly takes dogs on “sniffari” field trips at the park. Shannon’s been able to build up Cassidy and Robin’s confidence both in the kennel and in training classes. We’ve seen a marked reduction in reactivity to dogs and increased focus in class! She’s also an amazing foster mom to little Gomez. On behalf of all the A.D.O.P.T. animals, we thank you Shannon!

Libby is one of the dogs we took in from Florida after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Now safe at A.D.O.P.T., you would have no idea what she's been through. Despite all the change she's endured, Libby is incredibly sweet, happy and wiggly! Libby is the best of both worlds with her coat full of spots and stripes. She hasn't been super interested in toys yet, but what really gets her excited is the smell of her food. We get the feeling that Libby will be the perfect mix of play and snuggle. Welcome to Illinois Libby, your forever home awaits!

Violet came to us from a hoarding situation with three other Persians. When we determined that she was pregnant, we immediately moved her to a foster home. After giving birth to three kittens, Violet remained in the foster home for three months where she did well and was affectionate with her foster family.

When she and her kittens came to the shelter, the kittens were adopted immediately. The shock of losing her kittens so quickly has been hard on Violet. She is somewhat withdrawn here at the shelter but is gradually coming out of her shell. She will need a quiet, loving home where she can learn to love her people. She seems to be ok with other cats who give her space.

As a doll face Persian, meaning she does not have the flat face that you see in some Persians, she will not have the breathing problems associated with some Persians. Persians require more grooming than the average cat. For that reason we are requiring her new person to have some Persian experience.

Sometimes big things come in small packages, and Buddy is a perfect example! Buddy has a big personality, big voice and a big heart. Besides being absolutely adorable, Buddy is incredibly silly and sweet. He loves running, cuddling on the couch, and getting all of your attention. He would love adopters that are home more often than not, because a lonely Buddy is a sad Buddy.

Buddy came to us a few months ago from an animal control facility, who witnessed him having seizures. Since being placed on medication, he's feeling great and has had no seizures!

Brumble and Pippet are a lovable brother-sister duo that must be adopted together. After all, they are each other's best friends! They are definitely shy to start, so they find comfort in each other. Once they are more comfortable with you, the human, then they are all play play play! Brumble and Pippet would do well with older children.

We have an update on Mr. Pibb in his new home!

His mom says, "Pibb is doing amazing! He's settling very well into the home. He's a big cuddler and loves his long walks around the neighborhood to chase squirrels and the bunnies. He's been showing off his fashion sense around the neighborhood and definitely is the star of the show. Pibb has been such a joy to have in the home. ♥"
