Patty Baker Humane Society Naples partnered with Collier County Sheriff's Office and Collier County Domestic Animal Services on a recent animal cruelty case. Please read below for statements from PBHSN, CCSO and DAS, as well as more information regarding the investigation.

“We are heartbroken for Louie. When looking into his eyes, it was clear how much he suffered. No animal should ever have to withstand that,” PBHSN CEO Sarah Baeckler said. “We are always proud to partner with CCSO and DAS on these important and often devastating cases, and hopefully Louie’s story will serve as a reminder that this community will not abide cruelty to animals.”

What better way to start your Wednesday than with a Bubba Gump update?

Bubba Gump's journey to his forever home is a testament to the power of compassion and community. When Bubba first arrived at PBHSN, it was clear he needed a special kind of care. His neurological condition presented challenges, but his spirit was unbreakable. Staff members quickly fell in love with his gentle nature and playful antics, and they were determined to find him the perfect home.

Enter Shannon, whose heart and home were open to a dog like Bubba. She had previously cared for dogs with similar needs and understood the patience and love required. When she learned about Bubba through social media, she knew she had to meet him.

Today, Bubba thrives under Shannon's care. His story has touched the hearts of many, reminding us all that every animal deserves a chance at happiness, no matter the obstacles. Together, Shannon and Bubba demonstrate the transformative power of love and the joy that comes from giving an animal in need a place to call home.

Meet Jack! 🐾 This 3-year-old bundle of energy is full of life and love. Lately, Jack has been feeling the effects of shelter stress, so he got to be the office dog for the day—where he was spoiled with treats, belly rubs, and plenty of attention. 💙

Jack is a playful pup who absolutely loves tug-of-war. He’ll proudly keep his toy in his mouth, letting you know he’s not done yet! 🐶🎾 With so much love to give, Jack is eager to find his perfect match and leave shelter stress behind for good.

Another Foster Friday! Star came to us after her previous family could no longer afford her medical expenses for an injured leg. Her leg was amputated, and she’s been healing wonderfully. While at the shelter, Star struggled with stress and wasn’t eating well, but thanks to a loving foster home, she’s had the chance to decompress and recover fully.
Despite being a tripod, Star hasn’t let that slow her down! She’s adapting beautifully and is the sweetest girl, often stopping mid-walk to drop down for a belly rub.

Her foster parent shares:
"Star truly lives up to her name as she loves being the star of the home and the center of attention. She enjoys cuddling on the sofa (when invited) and is a big fan of belly rubs—one of the first things she did after arriving at my home. Star also loves frosty paws, bones, and spending time outdoors. Her amputation hasn’t affected her mobility—she loves walks and meeting new people. She will make a loving and loyal companion for someone.”

Happy Foster Friday! Meet Lucille, a lively 13-year-old senior cat who defies her age with her playful spirit. When Lucille first arrived, she was a bit shy, but her foster family has witnessed incredible progress.

They share "Lucille continues to make strides every day. She was quite high-strung when I first picked her up eight weeks ago, but we soon discovered her love for play. She's a fierce hunter when it comes to a mouse on a stick, getting so into the game that she even hisses at the toy!

Lucille enjoys having a human companion during playtime. Cardboard scratchers were new to her, but now she loves her scratcher lounger, cube, and bowl. She’s remarkably active for a senior cat."

Transferred to us from another shelter, Deja has been patiently waiting for her perfect match since 2022. Despite being overlooked time and time again, she remains full of love and eager to make new human friends. As much as we adore her here, Deja deserves a home where she can be the star of the show as the only pet.

Pit bulls are often misunderstood, making it harder for them to find the loving homes they deserve. Misconceptions and unfair stereotypes prevent people from giving these incredible dogs a chance. But we know the truth—our pitties are just as sweet, loyal, and lovable as any other breed.

Dogs like Goose, Amani, Cupid, Tamale, and Sabie have been patiently waiting at our shelter, overlooked simply because of the stigma attached to their breed. We invite you to visit our shelter and meet them for yourself. These wonderful dogs may carry the pit bull label, but their hearts are full of kindness, love, and a longing for a second chance. Meet Grenada, our adorable young kitten who tested positive for FeLV. Despite this diagnosis, Grenada has not slowed down at all and has a ton of energy. His big eyes are constantly looking for things to chase whether it's string, toys, or even videos of mice. This 5-year-old sweetheart has been one of our longest residents, waiting patiently since 2022 without a break from the shelter stress. Day after day, he continues to be overlooked—despite being a staff favorite with a heart full of love. 💙

Captain has never known the comfort of a foster home, but he remains hopeful. He’s low-maintenance, incredibly loving, and always eager to make new friends. Sadly, he’s growing older in the shelter, and we would love nothing more than to see him finally experience the warmth of a home.

Captain is famous for his boundless love of play, especially his signature game: 2-ball-catch. It’s simple—toss one ball, and when he brings it back, toss another. He thrives on the fun of chasing without having to share his toys. Watching him zoom around the yard, full of pure joy, is guaranteed to brighten anyone's day. 🐾🎾

Because of his protective nature over his toys, Captain would do best in a home without young children or with older kids who can respect his space. He’s a fantastic pup who just needs the right environment to flourish.
