Welcome to Morrow Akitas! We believe in quality over quantity and do not breed litters often.

We are a small hobby kennel located just north of Nashville, Tennessee. Our goal at Morrow Akitas is to raise Akitas who have correct breed type and sound structure per the AKC breed standard, have balance and stability in temperament and have the versatility and adaptability to enjoy other activities, jobs and sports with their families. Performance is a big focal point of our dogs and breeding p

rogram and its been a fun ride so far. If we do not currently have puppies available or breeding plans in the near future, we highly encourage you to check the ACA Breeder Referral list, which can also be found on our "Available" page. It is important that as a potential owner of an Akita that you support a breeder who is breeding for preservation and health, fully titling in conformation and/or performance as well as fully OFA health testing their breeding dogs. Selecting a breeder who is proving their dogs in these areas is insuring to you as a buyer that you are not just getting a purebred dog, but a well-bred purebred dog.

apparently to land a nice free stack I just need an FCAT track 30 feet away from the ring. 😂

too bad I didn’t have the DSLR with me, but shout out to my better half for getting this picture before our run. We’ve decided that Ouija must really like the summer breeze on his bald belly, because he is sure taking his time growing his hair back after surgery.

His first run in almost 2 years and he ran a 25.02 - which doesn’t hold a candle to Olive’s 28.89 but does put him in the top 5 fastest Akitas for 2024. Not bad for a post-op house moose. 🤓🧡

Among a few other recent titles, Dublin was awarded the Versatile Akita Excellent (VAX) award through the Akita Club of America .. which is genuinely quite impressive at his age!

Thoroughly enjoyed having this boy and his family stay with us the last week. Loomis even got to test out his summer bod on our beaches and thought it was a very cool day. One of my favorite things as a breeder is getting a front row seat to watch these dogs develop both mentally and physically, going out and crushing goals with their people. Loomis is no exception and he and his handlers have made some incredible strides since the last time I got to see them. The sky is the limit. 🫶

Ouija resembles Sabrina a lot. Like a giant boy version of his mom .. but Samara REALLY looks like her sometimes. The color is deceptive, but that head and expression is undeniable and that’s enough to make me cry these days. This was one of those pictures I took where I really saw Sabrina in Sam. She’s always with us. & How lucky I am for that. 🤍

this too shall pass.

I’ve been hearing that a lot lately. The more I hear it, the more it sounds like bu****it. I think it’s something people say when they don’t know what else to say. I think some things never pass, you just learn how to move forward while carrying them. I don’t know that i’ll ever actually be able to fully put words to the gravity of this one and not ever in a way that she deserves. I think I thought as time passed by, it would get easier to talk about. Maybe I would be able to understand it better. But the reality is that it’s just getting harder and harder to understand my world when she is not in it.

I owe everything to Sabrina. & I know a lot of the people reading this also owe a lot of the love and light in their lives to this irreplaceable, incomparable dog too.

In April, bloat took my best girl. & She took such a huge piece of me with her when she went. What they don’t tell you about losing THAT dog is that you’ll still see them every day. The foundation dog. You’ll still see their face .. their expression, their quirks, their mannerisms, their eyes. You’ll look at it every day, but it won’t quite be them.

Her progeny aren’t her. They’re the best I have of her, and i’m holding them so close. and I’m begging those that have them, hold them close too. I know each and every person who shares their lives with a piece of her - their lives are more enriched for it. Paraphrasing a lifetime’s worth of impact doesn’t seem right, so I won’t attempt to. Just know that I will spend the rest of my career in this breed working to honor this dog.

The world is cruel and unkind sometimes. I have had both everything to say & still nothing at all and these last few months have been brutal for our family. I cannot say enough thank you’s to all the love and support that has wrapped around us these last few months. I have some of the most incredible people in my life, and the majority of them I have acquired because of my dogs - several directly from this dog.

RIP to the Queen of Mean. The fun police. The best RBF i’ve ever seen a dog have. I love you to the moon. I hope it’s filled with jolly balls and all the best snacks up there.

I am genuinely not one for bragging .. but THIS is brag worthy. Today our monthly Akita Club of America update published. It’s a recap of the prior month and there’s a section in that newsletter for “New Titles” earned by Akitas for that previous timeframe. Of the 34 total titles earned by Akitas in the AKC, we had 8 new titles out of our breeding program on the list. That is just shy of 25% of the total titles earned for that timeframe. That is actually insane to think about. I also know that we have several titles recently earned by our dogs that have not yet processed, and those were not listed on this update but will reflect on the next. We hold versatility at such a high value here and when I first began my breeding journey, I had the goal of having a program that reflected that. To say that I am proud of the people who own our dogs and bring that goal to fruition is an understatement. This is not a brag for myself or anything I have personally done, but is entirely the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of the incredible people who got their canine partners from us. I am so, so, so proud to watch these teams blossom & so blessed to say that they trusted me as a breeder when selecting an Akita to start these journeys with. You guys are truly rockstars and are the reason we do what we do over here at Morrow Akitas! Endlessly grateful to all of you.

One of my best friends and fellow trainer made a statement last night to our students that I really loved, “No one has ever said ‘I trained my dog too much. My dog is too well trained’ .. “ The coolest thing about dogs getting involved in performance sports or other outlets is that the dogs are always growing as a team with their handlers and gaining beneficial behaviors and skills in the process. Trying new things with your dogs and setting goals for yourself can only improve you and your own skills, your dog and his skills and your knowledge going forward. That is why we have always so heavily encouraged people to get out there and try new things & why we have always tried to be available to new people who want to get involved - whether they have a dog from us or not. ❤️

(We also just saw that our co-owned Versatile Lad, Finn, was awarded the Akita Club of America’s Versatile Akita Excellent Two Award through the ACA! Cheers to some sporty, fluffy dogs that we are so privelaged to share our lives with!)

Last week our Ash-hole finished his AKC Championship in style. He went into the weekend already having both majors and only needing a few singles to finish, but he decided to go out with a bang - going Best of Breed and then on to an Owner-Handled Group 3rd placement and a regular Working Group 4th placement, finishing with a major too! We are absolutely over the moon with this young boy and so incredibly proud of the woman at the end of his lead! Brandy presents him beautifully and they have developed into an amazing team together. I’m so thrilled with all they have been able to do in such a short time! We are so excited to see this boy continue to shine and to start adding more letters to the back of his name now too! 🖤

Grainy photo from last night’s groom on my now bald baby boy.

Asking for prayers, good vibes and good juju sent our way this morning as Ouija goes in for his prophylactic gastropexy surgery. I know i’m not supposed to play favorites and I also know that anyone who knows me even a little knows that I do, and that this dog is my world. I’ve put this off for longer than I should have, but there are risks with any surgery and naturally, i’m a nervous wreck waiting on an update from his vets with this one.

Hoping to update you all this evening with a photo of my precious cherub in his post-surgery jammies, in bed watching his favorite tv show - Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. 🧡

Wishing a very happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there - two and four legged. Morrow Akitas would be nothing without the handful of incredible moms we have. I have felt continuously blessed over the years with rockstar dog-moms, and that’s certainly not always the case with dog mommas. It’s such a privilege raising litters with these Akita dams & getting to watch them teach their babies all about life in those first few weeks. These moments stay with me forever.💗

One year ago our St. Patrick’s charms were born. What a year it has been watching all of you grow and thrive with your people. I had so much excitement and so many goals for this batch of Morrow puppies and I am so grateful to their families for providing them the lives they deserve.
