Why are other people’s needs more important than yours? During The height of The Covid 19 Pandemic
my awesome therapist asked me why I worked seven days a week. I said people need me and I love my dogs and their families. I love what I do. He said well you work for yourself. Would you take a job where you were told you had to work seven days a week. I said no! so again he asked why couldn’t I take a day off. I was silent. People need me. Then he asked me the million dollar question.: Why are other people’s needs more important than yours?…? Ice cream well that’s the million dollar question Dakota! If I knew that, I wouldn’t be paying you to help me work through this all! Lol
I am a natural caregiver. My grandmother was a nurse, and my mother was a nurse among other things. It’s in my bones to give, to CARE, to love, to help in a crisis, to fix. To give advice - just ask 😅 he’ll tell you!

This first Wednesday of the new year, I’m living in gratitude for that question which I continue to ask myself whenever a sticky moment happens. I still overextended myself more than most, but I have learned to take care of myself, and to not give to a draining or detrimental degree.

Why are other people’s needs more important than yours?
