We are still planning to host our Cattlemen's Conference this Saturday. However we are moving the start time back one hour to 10am to accommodate the weather. We look forward to seeing everyone there.

Now is the time to start monitoring cattle for anaplasmosis. We have seen several cases over the last couple of weeks. Cattle may appear weak, lethargic, show sudden weight loss,increased respiratory rate and act aggressive when handled. Upon closer inspection you may find the animals mucous membranes appear white or yellow. Anaplasmosis is a blood parasite spread by biting insects and contaminated needles. Severe anemia occurs and without prompt care can cause death. Abortions often occur due to the low oxygen and blood flow to the fetus.

A good prevention plan in place can help decrease the number of animals affected.
For example use medicated (CTC) mineral during summer months when the opportunity for disease transfer is high, have a strong external parasite control program, change needles between animals and utilize Anaplasmosis vaccine to establish herd immunity.
