At The Eye Vets, we strive to provide the best and most up to date and innovative care to our patients. One of the ways we do so is by meeting monthly to discuss current literature and our own personal experiences with the topics we are reviewing.
During this month’s journal club meeting, The Eye Vets team reviewed the 2021 Veterinary Ophthalmology article, “Hypokalemia associated with topical administration of dorzolamide 2% ophthalmic solution in cats.”
Just because eye drops are small does not mean they can’t cause systemic side effects. Have you ever had a patient experience systemic side effects of Dorzolamide?
And the winner of the TONOVET Plus is….
Congratulations to Megan Estes from All Animals Veterinary Hospital in Dickson, TN! You won a TONOVET Plus for your hospital!
Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed procedures in our office but it never gets old, especially when we get to try out new technology! We had the opportunity to utilize the brand new @anvisionglobal pre-loaded intraocular lens and loved it!
Pros:
- Incredibly simple to use, and instructions provided with device make setup a breeze.
- Faster, more streamlined IOL preparation and injection.
- IOL leaves the injector tip in a more controlled manner.
Cons:
- Corneal incision needs to be elongated slightly more than usually because of the size of the injector tip.
Santa visits The Eye Vets 2023!
At The Eye Vets, our mission is to be a leading ophthalmology practice, dedicated to delivering the highest standard of eye care for animals. We strive to offer advanced diagnostic and treatment options, innovative techniques, and compassionate service to ensure optimal ocular health and improved quality of life for our patients. We made our mission future-oriented and big picture.
Meet Camilla Myers, an LVMT with years of experience in the field. We asked Camilla, “What do you hope to achieve in your current role?”
At The Eye Vets, it was important for us to define a clear purpose for why we do what we do. We have two big motivators. First, to enhance the lives of animals by providing excellent eye care, preserving vision, and promoting overall comfort and well-being. Second, to act as reliable, accessible, and compassionate resource to our referring veterinarians.
While having an overarching purpose is important for the entire team, it’s also important to know what drives our team members, individually.
Meet Caroline Butler, our surgery and inventory manager. We asked Caroline, “What drives you to do what you do in your role as a vet tech?”
Building your purpose should not be done by management alone in a locked room. When something this impactful is developed and released into the world, the entire team should be involved. We all have a voice. And every voice matters.
Meet Lauren Kent, our practice manager. We asked Lauren, “How do you build purpose in a vet practice?”
Our culture is made up of a vibrant group of people who commit their time, energy, creativity, and emotions to The Eye Vets and each other.
Meet Emily Bach, our Client Service Representative Supervisor. We asked Emily: what three things are most important, to her, when striving to create a positive culture in a veterinary practice?
Culture is used a lot these days but it’s so much more than a buzzword. Culture comes from the latin word cultus, which means “care.” And it’s defined as the values, language, and behavior of a group. Culture is a tangible, palpable thing that people create – together.
Meet Kayla Moore, one of our incredible team members. We asked Kayla what culture means to her.
Happy National Veterinary Technicians Week! We are so proud and thankful for our team members at The Eye Vets.
At The Eye Vets, we are focused on building and maintaining a positive culture. That includes our team member’s collective experience, well-being, and success. Burnout, employee turnover, compassion fatigue, anxiety, and depression plague our profession. @hound shared the following statistics:
* #1 problem and priority in vet med is HR
* 33% weighted average employee turnover rate
* 95% of employees are somewhat emotionally exhausted at work
As we celebrate our technicians and support staff this week, we will introduce you to each of our incredible team members. They will individually share their ideas of culture and what it means to build purpose in a veterinary practice.
