From Broadway to NHA, we present Brendan, our August employee of the month! Brendan is our Director of Operations, overseeing and ensuring that Nashville Humane runs efficiently and smoothly. Brendan leads his various departments with compassion, empathy, and dependability, always showing up for his teams in any way he can. He is there to lend a helping hand to every team member, comes up with new ways to improve NHA, and always puts the animal's well-being first. When you see him around the shelter, you can also rely on his positive and energetic demeanor to lift your spirits and brighten your day. If you see Brendan, be sure to give him a standing ovation for all the amazing work that he has put into NHA. We are so grateful to have an amazing leader like him!

The NHA July Staff Member of the Month is... 🥁 Christian!
Christian has been a delight to have on Team NHA. They extend their kindness to homeless shelter pets and all of NHA’s staff. They have a refreshing sense of humor that brings a lightness to our daily hustle and can always make someone smile. Christian partakes in spending time with dogs on behavior plans, giving them an enriching break from their kennel. That could be a game of fetch, a playgroup with another doggie friend, or a relaxing cuddle on the grassy hill. They can be found offering comfort to any shelter pet- both dogs and cats alike. They are always eager to spend some time with our Blue Level (behavior support) cats, get new and needed content to catch that potential adopter’s eye, & provide feedback for matchmaking. Christian is very thoughtful with adopters, following NHA’s goal to set up the ideal fit for both the pet & their loving new family. Not only do they spend time caring for all of NHA’s pets, but they get to know them and help advocate for them, too!

Animals experience a variety of stress in shelters, so it's important we focus on enriching their lives as much as possible. Food, toys, and physical activity are great enrichment, but we have additional ways we focus on sensory enrichment! Bubbles are a favorite in our shelter, especially when they are bacon-scented!💚
The NHA June Staff Member of the Month is... 🥁 Lucy!
Lucy is an amazing individual. Her warm smile and bright attitude are welcomed and appreciated. On any given day she can be found all around the shelter doing whatever needs to be done in the moment! She has been a valuable team member for the last 6 years and recently became Team Lead for Animal Care. The amount of detail Lucy pays to everything is fantastic - check out her themed kennels with coordinated toys and bedding! She is always helpful, especially in answering questions and training new employees as well as volunteers. Thank you, Lucy, for your dedication and hard work. You make NHA a better place, both for people and animals!

Did you know Nashville Humane pulls from partner shelters? In 2024 alone, we have taken in animals from 48 different partner shelters. Our goal is to save as many lives as possible, and pulling animals every week from these shelters does just that. Without shelters leaning on each other, most would have to euthanize for space regularly. The NHA May Team Member of the Month is... 🥁 Katie!
Katie just celebrated her second anniversary at Nashville Humane, and her time here is worth recognition! As our Development Specialist, Katie is responsible for everything donations and is the point person for every single one of our supporters! Thanks to our community, that number continues to grow, but Katie still ensures they know we appreciate their support! The responsibilities Katie has might not seem like a glamorous part of our job, but she is a big reason our shelter operates! She has also spearheaded a variety of grants, ensuring our dogs and cats get the love and care they deserve! With the grants she successfully applies for and receives, we can help nearly 3,500 animals every year! In addition to her daily behind-the-scenes work, Katie is always willing to lend a helping hand. Whether taking a dog for a walk to enjoy the fresh air, helping with a play group, or coming up with the best animal puns, Katie is always a cheerleader for our team!
