Foster Friday: Puppy Edition!🐾

This month, our spotlight isn’t just about one animal… It’s about puppies. Lots of them! Right now, we have countless little ones in our care. Some are starting to shut down, others are overwhelmed by the noise and stress of shelter life. These babies don’t understand why they’re here, and they desperately need a break.

That’s where you come in!

Whether you can foster for 1 week or 3, it helps them decompress, gain confidence, and get ready for adoption. And for puppies, those breaks can make all the difference between struggling and thriving!

Ready to make a difference? Email [email protected] today! Whether you have a quiet home perfect for cuddles or a household ready for playtime, our team would love to matchmake the right puppy for you!šŸ–¤

She’s rocking her Doggy Parton dress in honor of one of our favorite Dog Day traditions, costume contests! From glam gowns to silly get-ups, we can’t wait to see what creative looks you and your pups come up with this year.

So join us on Saturday, October 18th, at Centennial Park for live music, food trucks, weiner dog races, agility, vendors, and of course, the most paw-some costume parade in town! Tickets are on sale at nashvillehumane.org/events/dog-day-festival now!

P.S. - Adopt Princess Jasmine! She would love to experience Dog Day as an official NHA Alumni!šŸ’–

Volunteer of the Month!āļø

Nathan Vertuca joined Nashville Humane in 2023. Since then, he has made an incredible impact on the community. One of Nathan’s most notable contributions has been his consistent support at our Low-Cost Clinics. His multilingual skills have been especially invaluable, allowing us to better serve our Spanish-speaking community and their pets. Nathan has lent his energy and enthusiasm to many of NHA’s major fundraisers, including Mutt Strutt, Unleashed, and Dog Day, as well as countless other events like Puppy Bowl & Pride Fest. Recently, he transported one of our puppies to UT in Knoxville for surgery, showcasing his dedication and compassion to our cause. Nathan is a beloved presence at every event he joins, and while we are thrilled for him as he embarks on his next adventure in Spain, his absence will leave a big gap in our volunteer family. Thank you, Nathan, for all you’ve done for NHA! You will be greatly missed!

Every year, countless pets are born with birth defects, conditions they can’t control, but ones that too often stop them from being adopted. Today, on Pet Birth Defect Awareness Day, we’re shining a light on two of our very own: Vinny and May!šŸ’›

🐾 Vinny was born with a congenital heart defect. In his case, he was not a candidate for surgery, so his care looks like ongoing vet monitoring, medications to keep him comfortable, and a recognition that his life span will be shorter. But that hasn't stopped Vinny from being a happy puppy who wants nothing more than to love and be loved!

🐾 May was born with hydrocephalus, often called ā€œwater on the brain.ā€ Her larger head is due to fluid that her body can’t drain properly. While she hasn’t shown worrisome symptoms, she’ll need regular vet care and careful monitoring, and may have a shorter life span. But today, May is a curious, playful girl who wiggles every time she sees you!

Birth defects don’t define who Vinny and May are. They are affectionate, joyful, and every bit as deserving of a home. On this day, we hope to raise awareness that pets with birth defects are still wonderful companions, and in many ways, they’re the ones who teach us the most about resilience and unconditional love.šŸ’›
