Volunteer of the Month!⭐️

Originally from Australia, Sarah began volunteering with Nashville Humane in 2024 and has quickly become an incredible asset to our shelter community. With prior volunteer experience at a pet hospital in Australia, where she assisted with home visits, Sarah jumped right in and has supported our animals and staff across many areas of the shelter. A yellow-level dog walker, Sarah frequently participates in Pet Visitations at Abe’s Garden, Doggie Day Out, and Food Bank shifts. Through Doggie Day Out especially, she provides dogs with much-needed one-on-one time while also sharing valuable insights about their personalities outside of the shelter environment. Sarah also supports community events such as adoption events, Dog Day (shoutout to her for being Rover!), and Unleashed, and she even brought her coworkers in for a group volunteer day. Sarah brings compassion, reliability, and heart to everything she does. She is truly a powerhouse volunteer, and we are so grateful to have her on our team!

Foster Friday: Meet Baloo!🩶

Just like his namesake from The Jungle Book, Baloo believes in the bare necessities: a cozy couch, a loving human, and someone to share the simple joys of life with.

Baloo is a big-hearted boy with a gentle soul. He’s potty-trained, great on leash, does well in the car, and knows a variety of cues like sit, down, and stay. He loves playing with his favorite ball, but when it’s time to relax, he’s the ultimate snuggle buddy and happiest right by your side.

Baloo is currently looking for a Foster Home while he waits for his upcoming dental procedure in February. If you can help Baloo enjoy the bare necessities in the comfort of your home, please email our team at [email protected] today!🏡

Yes, these puppies are adorable.

They’re also a reminder that one unplanned litter can ripple through a shelter, stretching space, time, and resources for every animal already waiting.

This is your sign to spay and neuter your pets. Change starts before animals ever arrive at a shelter, and prevention gives every animal a better chance at the life they deserve.

If you’re looking for help taking that step, visit nashvillehumane.org/petmedicalhelp for more information.🖤

This is why rescue matters.🖤

In January 2025, Citana and Katari were found tied to trees on a property and starving in freezing temperatures. Thanks to the hard work of Smith County Humane, TN, they were rescued just in time, and the individuals responsible were charged with animal cruelty.

Today, Citana and Katari are safe at Nashville Humane. They sleep in warm beds, eat full meals, and are surrounded by people who treat them with kindness.

Citana and Katari are not broken. They are not damaged. They are not defined by the worst moments of their lives. What happened to them says nothing about who they are, only about the situation they survived.

Now, they’re ready for what comes next. A future shaped by love, stability, and a home of their own. If you’re looking for a reminder of how powerful compassion can be, come meet Citana and Katari.🖤

The NHA January Staff Member of the Month is... 🥁 Claire!

Claire is one of our licensed veterinary technicians, who likes to remind us that she has been in the industry longer than most of the department has been alive! She brings a warm and inviting energy to the clinic and can usually be found helping out with surgery or performing intake examinations. Claire is always willing to mentor our newer staff members, give a word of sage advice, or crack a joke to lighten the mood. Claire has been involved with many programs over the years, including previously leading our Rover team! We are proud of her dedication to NHA and her continued commitment to shelter medicine. Claire has devoted 14 years to Nashville Humane and has kept us laughing since day one!

CONGRATS, CLAIRE - You are the most deserving of the coveted parking spot and more!

Happy Tongue Out Tuesday from Chessy!🩷

This sweet girl loves leaning in for cuddles, zooming around a yard, and handing out kisses like it’s her full-time job. Chessy is also treat-motivated, has lived with dogs before, and has made a few doggie friends in our care.

One scan could get them home!🏡

As we've seen an uptick in lost pets, we wanted to remind our community that Nashville Humane has a 24/7 Microchip Scanning Station right outside our shelter gates (213 Oceola Avenue).

If you've found a pet, you can stop by any time, day or night, to scan for a microchip. First time using a microchip scanner? There are step-by-step instructions at the station to help!

Please remember this area is under surveillance 24/7, so do not leave animals unattended. Stray and lost animals are already experiencing tremendous amounts of stress, and it is illegal to dump animals on shelter property. Please do the right thing and respect both the Microchip Station and the animals that utilize it.

Thank you for helping us keep families together, animals out of shelters, and making happy reunions possible!❤️
