🐱 The Ultimate Cat Conference 2024 🐱
Our Animal Care and Adoptions Manager, Megan, had the awesome opportunity to attend the first ever annual @ultimatecatconference. This conference was hosted by @truerescue and we had an amazing turnout. The conference covered everything about cats - from communal cat living, managing fosters and adoptions, trap neuter release, neonatal care, medicating tips, social media, disaster relief, handling ferals, pet CPR, and more! We had some amazing speakers come out including @kittenxlady @nathanthecatlady @sisterkittenanimalrescue @the_original_trapking @fundamentallyfeline @nashvillevetspecialists and more. This was an amazing opportunity to network with other animal care professionals and enthusiasts from all over Tennessee and other states across the country.
Megan was able to come back with so much information to help our program, especially as we expand and open our cat cafe later this year! Make sure to follow us and be on the lookout for more updates as we move forward over the next few months!

Alistair and Kava have become best buddies in our cat room! It's been amazing to see Alistair come out of his shell and gain confidence from little miss Kava's company. These two love to play and chase each other around our space and enjoy chatting with each other when they're not together.

Is your puppy digging, scratching, barking, or jumping? While these behaviors may be annoying to humans, these are all completely normal animal behaviors. It’s important that these behaviors are expressed in safe, constructive ways for our animals to feel comfortable while still also behaving as good canine citizens in our human world.
Much of our animal training and rehabilitation is based around working with normal behaviors, and finding safe, appropriate ways to allow our pets to express them.
Digging?
Use snuffle mats at feeding time! Give them big piles of toys and blankets! Put their food inside of cardboard boxes! Give them their own sandbox, filled with hidden toys!
Jumping?
Teach them to jump over obstacles in an agility course! Or teach them to jump on top of a sturdy feed bucket or chair on command!
Scratching?
Give them a scratching post or a scratch pad. Give them a corrugated cardboard box!
Barking?
Teach them to “be quiet” on cue by rewarding moments of silence. Once reliable, teach them to bark on cue!

Crossroads’ alumna Pie shows off her awesome self control while demonstrating the “Place” cue! Having a pup stay in their “Place” can help with issues such as jumping on guests, begging during human mealtime, and a variety of other situations.
Just like “Stay,” start small - just a few seconds at a time. Build up distance and duration slowly and separately. Eventually, your pup will be happy to hang out on their safe, cozy bed as long as they need to.
