today i am praying for and remembering a very sincere and earnest young man Eugene Hunt-Wolfgramm…….
I am surprised and deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Gene - my best friend and partner through one of the most formative periods of both of our lives-
I was thinking of a story to share, that most people would not have known about Gene …… and of course what comes to mind is on a promotional double date we did for Seventeen Magazine…. “Win a date with the boys club” - the winner was a girl who lived with her family in a trailer park in Florida-
i think it may have been Ft. Lauderdale- anyway we pulled into the backwoods neighborhood- i am talking 5 mi off of the paved roads on a gravel/dirt road- and we pulled up in our 22’ limousine.….. these girls had bought prom dresses from Kmart and this was going to be one of the biggest days in their young lives………
Gene was a big star at this time- having had hits now with 2 different bands….. no small feat.
Within 5 min of getting out of the limo- i was inside with the mom looking at photo albums- and gene was no where to be found…….
Turns out he was in the back yard with the dad shooting shotguns into the woods and having a great ol time- he was very much a mans man!!…….
Well when we finally headed out for our dinner- one of the young girls told Gene about a girl who had bullied her in school and that she worked at the Mc Donalds in town….. gene instructed the Limo Driver to take us through the drive through- where she was working and let the girls order some drinks for the ride- a small gesture but it meant the world to them…….
Later on in the eve- at the restaurant…. You know one of those joints that has a server on every corner of the table……. Well…..the girls were looking at the menu and they didn’t know what anything on the menu was, and were shy and embarassed…. And gene…. Well he loved to eat out….. so…. after a brief chat……. Gene looked at the waiter- who asked him what he wanted to order……. “Gene pointed at the menu and responded ….. Bring me one of everything…..!”
He made sure that those two young ladies got to experience 1 of everything on the menu- it was a glorious feast that lasted for a couple of hours- i am pretty sure our bill that night was around $2000 with tip-
Always one of my fav stories from that time- one i would never forget and i am pretty sure those young ladies have retold it over the last 30+ years……
I am sure Gene is running around shooting buckets, eating pork rinds and learning some new dance moves - in heaven…..
A good and kind soul- which sometimes got him into trouble- because he always chose to see the best in people even when they didn’t deserve it- i am very sad to hear this news- and my family will be talking about Gene and remembering him in our prayers this eve…….
My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones!!
