BCHS strives for a community where all animals are valued and treated with respect. All animals that come to the shelter are re-homed, regardless of how long it takes and no animals are euthanized due to lack of space or funds. We hold the Brown County Animal Control contract, but we are not a government agency and receive no funds from any national animal welfare organizations. Our community outr

each program has reduced the number of animals coming into the shelter by 49% and the BCHS has been nationally recognized as a successful rural shelter with an outstanding save rate of 99%, compared to a national average of 60%.

Harriet is a sweet girl who is gradually coming out of her shell. Though she's been a bit shy and quiet, her heart is full of potential and love waiting to be discovered.

UPDATE - answers are below!! This is a perfect example of why we are hesitant to make guesses of breeds for animals in the shelter. You really never know what makes up a dog and we are usually VERY wrong 🤣

It's time to play our favorite game - Can you guess the breed?

It's been way too long since we've played a round of guess the breed, so we thought we'd brighten this snowy day with some fun! Roger (formerly Louis) adopters recently let us know that they did a DNA test and shared his results.

Here are the percentages of his breeds, so fill in your guesses in the comments!
36.2% - Chihuahua
21.8% - American Pit Bull Terrier
16.3% - American Staffordshire Terrier
9.4% - Lhaso Apso

He was also 16.3% Supermutt, but we will give you that one 😆

Guitar Raffle to Benefit BCHS
This Saturday, November 23rd, Midnight Blue – The Foreigner Experience will be performing at the Brown County Playhouse and will raffle off a brand-new guitar to benefit our shelter animals.

This Midnight Blue custom-made guitar includes both the Midnight Blue logo as well as the Brown County Humane Society logo.

Two winners will get band merchandise, and one lucky winner will receive the guitar! Pre-ordered concert tickets include a complimentary raffle ticket, and additional raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the show for $5 each.

All proceeds from the raffle will be donated back to BCHS! We are so grateful to Midnight Blue for selecting us to be the recipients of the funds.

Mardi visited the Chocolate Walk this past weekend and was absolute PERFECTION!

She loved meeting all the people who attended and soaked in every ounce of attention they were willing to give her. Mardi especially perked up when kids approached and shared lots of kisses with them.

Happy Veterans Day!
To our staff, volunteers and community members who are members of the armed forces – THANK YOU! Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed, and we are so grateful for all you do each and every day to protect our country.

As a small token of our appreciation, we are offering FREE adoptions to our veterans throughout the month of November. This offer is in partnership with Pets for Patriots. Pets eligible for free adoptions must be 2 years of age or older, been in the shelter’s care for at least 6 months or weigh more than 40 pounds.

The program is open to any veteran who qualifies and lives within approximately 40 miles of our shelter. In addition to a waived adoption fee, veteran adopters will also get a $200 gift card for pet supplies, discounted veterinary care at participating veterinary practices, ongoing discounts on pet supplies and other perks. To qualify, you must apply and be approved by the Pets for Patriots program prior to coming in to adopt.

Openings still available for Half off Spay/Neuter for all Remaining 2024 Transports!!!

We are offering all Brown County residents 50% off the surgery cost of having their cat and/or dog spayed/neutered through the end of this year. We haven't run a special like this in several years, so be sure to take advantage of it while you can!

Rudy can help with that - he lives for playtime and pets! If you're a fan of fetch, Rudy will be your perfect match. This guy loves nothing more than chasing after balls and frisbees, leaping into the air to catch them, and then politely sitting as he eagerly waits for you to throw them again. His enthusiasm and athleticism shine when he's in action, and he's sure to bring tons of excitement to your playtime.

Rudy's zest for life doesn't stop with play! He loves attention just as much, greeting you with a full-body wiggle when it's time for pets. He came to the shelter underweight with inflamed skin, but with lots of TLC, he's gaining weight and feeling better each day.

Dog Adoptions Starting at $1 Our kennels are full and many of these dogs have been waiting over a month for a home to call their own! It's time to make some magic happen. Beginning this Friday, Sept. 20 and running thru Monday, Sept. 30 all dogs who have been here 30 days or more will have adoption fees starting at just $1! Each time a dog is adopted, the fee increases by $1, so the sooner you adopt, the better the deal! All dogs are spayed/neutered, microchopped, heartworm tested and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations prior to adoption. This special only applies to dogs that have been in the shelter for 30 days or longer. The special is first-come, first-served and no holds will be completed. Waylon Goes to Town

Waylon spent the day in Nashville, visiting shops and meeting new people. He was perfect! He was curious, but not rambunctious while in the shops. Waylon met new people politely, enjoying pets but not overly enthusiastically! He was calm when seeing other dogs in town. Simply a perfect dog to take out on the town! Today's our Final Day of Easter Fun with Inga and Figg! We couldn't let Easter go by without giving each the chance to do their very own Easter egg hunt with their friends. Both dogs had a blast and found all the eggs, but one did it just a bit faster than the other. Who will the winner be? Watch to find out!! Please note, no chickens or easter egg baskets were harmed in the making of this video 🤣Even if they both decided to take them for a joyride around the yard. Figg and Inga Easter Egg Race

And the winner is.... you will have to watch to find out! Inga was a strong favorite in the preliminary voting to win our Easter Egg Race. Her performance definitely does not disappoint, but we think the results will be a surprise to most! We left the sound in the video just because we felt like it added to the intensity 🤣 And, we included footage from our practice round where it didn't quite go as planned, but that's half the fun. Keep sharing the word about both Figg and Inga and their need to find their forever homes! Figg's Squeaky Tennis Balls

Tennis balls that SQUEAK!!!!! 🤯 Figg's favorite thing is chasing tennis balls around the yard. Recently, he found the Coolest. Thing. Ever!
