Employee Pet Spotlight: Ruby 🐶

Ruby is our Lead Receptionist, Jamie’s beloved boxer.
Ruby is a sassy, charming, and courageous 12 year old boxer. When her owner passed away, she came to live with his daughter Jamie. Ruby is especially fond of Jamie's husband Ross and frequently takes Jamie's place on the couch to snuggle with him. She has fought cancer for the past 4 years that she has been with Jamie, but she never lets it get her down. Even after losing a leg, she still happily jogs to daycare at Green Hills Kennel and bounces up and down while barking at Jamie's coworkers for treats. Ruby reminds her mom that even though a cancer diagnosis can be sad and scary, it isn't who you are, and life can still be fun. Ruby is looking forward to her 13th birthday in November. If you see her, be sure to offer her a treat!

☀️🐾 Hot pavement alert! As temperatures rise, so does the risk of paw burns. Protect your pet’s toes by testing the pavement with your hand—if it's too hot for you, it's too hot for them! Opt for walks during cooler hours and stick to grassy areas when possible. Let's keep those paws cool and happy this summer!

Reminder for this time of year! We are hearing of many people finding baby fawns and asking us what to do, as they think they are abandoned. Leave them alone! They are not abandoned even if you haven't seen the mother come back.

Straight from: Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency:

LEAVE BABY DEER ALONE!
• It's Illegal to take a fawn from the wild. When you remove a fawn from the wild, you have stolen the baby from the mother.
• Fawns left alone are not orphans! Mothers leave fawns alone to rest, eat, and hide the babies from predators.
• When fawns are approached, they lower their heads, lie very still, and take fewer normal breaths, natural defenses. The fawns are not sick or injured.
• Keep your distance. A doe won't return if humans are hanging around. Mothers perceive you as predators and will not return while you're nearby.
• Fawns have an excellent chance of surviving if you leave them alone.
• Humans have well-meaning intentions to care for a fawn but be educated and do what's best for the fawn.
LEAVE IT ALONE!
