THE SOLDIER’S LOYAL MATE

The bond between my working dog is somewhat hard to state.
My working dog is not a pet – he is my loyal mate.

I train, I play and work with him – he gives me all he’s got.
Without complaint he stands by me and shares the soldiers’ lot.

When on deployment overseas and things get really hard,
I soundly sleep because I know, he always stays on guard.

He has a sense if danger’s near – I am his main concern.
In battle he would die for me – for nothing in return.

No matter how I fail in life, he never judges me.
And when I need a friendly paw, it’s there upon my knee.

So if, by chance, I lose my mate – please grieve with me – feel blue.
For when he gives his life for me – he gives his life for you.

There are numerous changes in my life this year. Thankfully all for the better.
1. personal life change
2. new training goals
3. Upcoming breeding “P” litter plan

But most importantly our man of the house Khan vom Hermes turned 10 this year. He was from the breeding I was planned for years. He was exactly what we were hoping for as a working dog and a family pet. He also proved that he can pass his characters to his offsprings.

Many more years to my boy.

“In 1925, diphtheria affected an isolated village in Alaska. Due to the severe cold, it was not possible to transport the medicines by plane and ship, so the transport of the medicines to the town of Nome was organized with the help of mushers (guides or drivers of a dog sled team).

About 1120 miles (1800 kilometers) had to be covered in five days. There were several teams and they took turns on different sections. The Norwegian Gunnar Kasen and his main dog Balto were the first to bring the serum to the village.

It turned out that Kasen had not made a mistake in choosing the main dog, because when the team had an accident, Balto helped his musher, saving him from certain death.

When the storm reached its peak and visibility became low they crossed 85 km. Balto is considered a hero, and in 1925 a monument was erected to him in Central Park in New York.

He was truly a hero, like all the other dogs during this mission. However, the dog that did the most difficult part of the work was Togo who crossed the longest distance 260 miles (418 kilometers). He was part of Leonhard Seppala team of dogs. Togo is the husky, in the photo.

Togo was already known for his incredible leadership qualities, which he demonstrated again in this race.

The mission was successfully completed and these brave dogs saved numerous lives.”

Hope everyone had a fantastic 4th of July weekend. On Saturday we had an awesome class with all of our dedicated dog parents. What motivates me with my job is to see the harmony of dogs and their handlers bring out to the table. Most of the dogs in this video are human/dog reactive dogs. It’s a joy to see how they made such progress at home and continue to make betterment in their lives.
