Cold weather pet safety tips:
* Keep cats and dogs inside, especially during cold waves
* If your dog goes outside, keep walks short
* Even heavy-coated dogs need time to adjust to freezing temperatures

Provide shelter
* If your pet can't come inside, provide a dry, draft-free shelter
* Raise the floor a few inches off the ground
* Cover the floor with cedar shavings or straw
* Cover the doorway with waterproof burlap or heavy plastic
* Turn the enclosure away from the wind

Protect paws
* Wipe your pet's paws with a damp towel after they've been outside
* Salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice can irritate a pet's paws

Protect water and food
* Check your pet's water dish regularly to make sure it's fresh and unfrozen
* Pets who spend a lot of time outdoors need more food in the winter

Did you know documentation of the Shih Tzu dog breed goes back at least 1,000 years! The breed’s ancestry goes back even further than that. Records show that short, square, “under the table” dogs existed in China as early as 1000 B.C. These short and stout dogs were likely the ancestors of the Shih Tzu. 🐾♥️🐾
