When April Showers, Bring Cat Towers: What is Kitten Season?
🌻😻🌻

🌻“kitten season.” Due to warmer weather, kitten season normally takes place between the months of March and October.

Neonates, kittens up to 4 weeks old, are fragile and will require the most intense maintenance and life-saving care. They are unable to regulate their own body temperature or eat solid foods. They’re also unable to urinate or defecate without stimulation, which mom normally provides by cleaning/licking them.

Bottle babies, which are orphaned neonates, are especially vulnerable during this stage of their lives. Kittens will only begin to open their eyes between one week and 12 days after birth. They will begin to walk around 3 weeks old and begin eating solid foods at about 4 weeks old.🌻

It’s pumpkin season! 🎃 Don’t throw these beauties out after Halloween, recycle them into your dog’s dish! 🐕

After removing the seeds, steam or bake your pumpkin until the flesh is soft, scoop out the flesh and freeze in ice cube trays to use all winter!

(If you buy canned pumpkin to feed to your pets, make sure to only buy 100% pumpkin -preferably organic- NOT pie filling, which can cause GI problems). 🍂

While dogs may be man’s best friend, no one can deny how much we cat parents love our feline friends. Having a furry (or hairless if that’s your preference) pal who curls into your lap, demands food at the oddest hours, and can keep us in our place with just one look, is simply one of the best things in life. This closeness we feel to our cats is one of the main reasons we are tempted to offer them certain human foods we enjoy, that may not be great for them.

But I will share a tip to brighten your day!

Frozen Treats Recipe.

DOGS/PUPPIES
4 Ingredients🧊🫐🍓
*ice tray Water.
*Frozen Blueberries. (sugar free)
*Frozen Strawberries. (sugar free)
*Plain yogurt. (we use fat-free)

Whisk together 4 ounces of yogurt and 4 ounces of water for the base. Add more yogurt and reduce the water if you want a creamier treat with more calories.

Pour into one row of 5 wells, leaving a generous amount of room for the blueberries.

Add blueberries to each well until the mold is almost filled (the pupsicle will expand as it freezes, plus it’s nice to have a little extra space to protect from spills).

CATS/KITTENS
3 Ingredients 🧊🍗🥩🐟
*1 Pate can.
*Dried catnip.
*silicone ice cube tray.

Take a can of your cat’s favorite pate-style wet food and scoop it out into a mixing bowl
Stir in a few of your cat’s favorite soft treats or

a sprinkle of dried catnip. Spoon the mixture into small paper cups or into a silicone ice cube tray and freeze until solid.

Pop the treats out the tray or peel away the paper to serve the frozen treat

HISTORY OF NATIONAL KITTEN DAY.

😼Cats are an enigma, and we humans are utterly fascinated by them. Cats have been living with people for 12,000 years, according to scientists. We are still not exactly sure when cats became domesticated, especially since the skeletons of wild cats and domesticated.

cats discovered at archaeological sites are very similar. Still, most evidence suggests that the domestication of cats occurred more than 8,000 years ago.🙀
but also an opportunity for abandoned kittens to be adopted into loving homes.

🐾While many of our kittens will be given special treatment today, countless kittens don’t find homes. Left alone at shelters, on roadsides, or in the wild, National Kitten Day doubles as an awareness campaign to save these babies and give them the love they rightfully deserve. 💞🏡

5 COMMON CAT NOISES AND WHAT THEY MEAN?🙀😾😿😻

#1- MEOWING
Kittens meow a whole lot to communicate with their moms, while adult cats will more often meow to talk to humans rather than each other.

#2- PURRING
pet parents look forward to is purring, a soft, deep, and throaty rumble, which indicates sheer delight.the purr may be a sign that your pet is unhappy or overwhelmed.

#3- HISSING
Cats usually hiss at other animals. Along with the sound comes a defensive, aggressive posture,however, the hissing is unprovoked, it may be a sign that your pet is in pain with an undiagnosed condition.

#4- GROWLING OR SNARLING
accompanying hissing, and usually indicating fear, anger, or territorial threat.It is a clear warning to stay back and can be directed at humans as well as other animals. In some cases, a cat in pain may growl or snarl.

#5- YOWLING
If your kitty has not been spayed or neutered, yowling may indicate the search for a mate.
Sometimes a cat will yowl out of sheer boredom.

Vampire bats feeding on bovine blood? 😳🩸

Today is , a day dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness for our flying, and often misunderstood, friends. Did you know that common vampire bats are sanguivores?

A sanguivore refers to any animal that feeds on or consumes the blood of other animals, and vampire bats are the only mammals that feed exclusively on blood. After landing on a potential food source, vampire bats use their razor-sharp incisors to make a tiny, painless cut in the skin of the animal.

Their saliva contains an anti-coagulant called “draculin” that keeps blood flowing from the wound. Despite what pop culture may think, vampire bats don’t suck blood, but rather use their grooved tongues to lap up the free-flowing blood. 🦇

STUDY FINDS HERBICIDES IN THE URINE OF PETS AFTER HOME LAWN CHEMICAL TREATMENT.
SAD🌿🌾☘️🦠🍀😓🐶🔬

• Lawn chemical exposure was widespread in dogs. At least 1 of the 3 chemicals measured in the study was present in the urine of dogs in the majority of the 25 households after lawn chemicals were applied to the grass.

• 'Untreated' grass also contained lawn chemicals, presumably from drift from nearby treated areas. At least 1 of the 3 chemicals was detected on the grass in 7 of 8 control households, as well as in many of the “treated” households BEFORE the chemicals were applied.

• Half of the dogs living in 'untreated' control households had lawn chemicals in their urine.

• The condition of the grass affected how long the chemicals persisted on the surface of the grass where they would be taken up by dogs. Chemicals persist longer on dry brown grass. Chemicals were detected on the grass at 48 hours after treatment in the household study." - Purdue University

WHAT’S EVEN WORSE:❌️
Once contaminated, dogs can pass the chemicals on to their owners and to others in the household. The study only looked at dogs, but the researchers suspect that cats and other pets could also be affected.

This means that we, the humans, are unknowingly exposing our pets to cancer and they, our pets, are unknowingly returning the favor as they bring the toxins back into our households.

The bottom line is pets can absorb lawn chemicals from exposure to their treated lawn, exposure to their untreated but contaminated lawn, and from other treated areas such as parks.♻️❌️

Calming down a wary cat is not hard, but sometimes you need to figure out what's wrong first. Here's why cats get nervous, and what you can do to help.🤌🏻

As loving cat owners, we want to do everything we can to optimize our cat’s happiness. Keeping a cat’s stress levels at a minimum means a happier cat, but also a cat with fewer stress-related behavior issues.

🙀Cat-to-Cat Tension.

😹Urine Spray-marking.
😼Excessive Cat Scratching.

🐱Consistent Cat Training.

if kitty isn’t allowed on the table by one family member but is permitted by another, it sends a confusing and stressful mixed message. Train with kindness and consistency.✅

Never force your cat to interact.Don’t insist on holding or petting your cat if he doesn’t want it.❌

🐱Environment and Resources.

Provide cat trees, perches or other elevated locations to create security and comfort.
Indoor cats have to share overlapping territories so reduce stress by making

🐱Happy Litter Box Set-up.

Make sure the litter box is the right size and type for your cat. Scoop the litter box at least twice a day more then one cat in the house
no problem, provide numerous litter boxes scattered throughout the house so one cat doesn’t have to cross another cat’s area.

Stress. We hear that word often as it relates to humans but it can be a big problem for cats as well. While stress can’t be totally avoided in life and a certain amount is necessary to help us all survive.🤓

We hope you are enjoying today with full bellies, and keeping your pets belly happy too!

Please remember to not give them fatty meats, like ham or turkey skin. Also stay away from bones and side dishes that include onions, garlic, sugar or anything with butter added. They can have plain sweet potatoes, raw or cooked carrots and green beans, and turkey breast. Just remember anything that is not normally included in their diet can still cause a GI upset, including vomiting and diarrhea.

FIVE STAGES OF THE FELINE HEAT (ESTRUS) CYCLE: 🧶

*Proestrus

*Metestrus (or Diestrus)

The youngest stage of a cat’s life is the kitten phase which spans from 0-6 months old. At this stage, they are the most curious and playful!

Cats can get pregnant during their first heat cycle, but this is not advisable as a 4-6 month old cat is not yet fully grown/mature, and complications for the mother and the kittens are more likely.

REASONS TO PERFORM EARLY SPAY/NEUTER

87% of kitten births would be prevented, the intake of litters of kittens into animal shelters would be significantly reduced, and “kitten season” in animal shelters might simply disappear.

• Decreases the risk for mammary carcinoma

• Eliminates reproductive emergencies such as pyometra and dystocia

Well, they can be curious, loving, and playful, chasing toys and sliding around on the floor! They can be independent and only want what they want when they want it, like they have their own daily schedule planned out. They can enjoy lots of cuddles any time of the day, or not allow you to pet them until they say so. They can be curious and funny, like trying to catch your fish in the fish tank or checking out the new box from your most recent delivery. They can also knock everything off the counter - but hey, your counter is clean now, right? Or you know what, they can be a mixture of it all! Each cat has their own amazing personality, but that's why we love them.

So simply put, cats can be cats!

Did you know that common vampire bats are sanguivores? A sanguivore refers to any animal that feeds on or consumes the blood of other animals, and vampire bats are the only mammals that feed exclusively on blood. After landing on a potential food source, vampire bats use their razor-sharp incisors to make a tiny, painless cut in the skin of the animal. Their saliva contains an anti-coagulant called “draculin” that keeps blood flowing from the wound.
