"They’re watching the way we groom, the way we tack and warm up, the way we school our horses, the way we discipline, the way we care for our mounts after a ride," writes Chronicle blogger Sarah Susa, who runs a lesson program. "If we cut corners, if we lose patience, if we are harsh in tone or in hand, they’re watching. If we are kind, if we try to see things from our horse’s point of view, if we consider discomfort or confusion first when a horse acts up or acts out, the young riders who are watching us will likely do the same."
