Pawz 4 Vets Training and Furnishing Service Dogs to our Veterans at no cost to them

05/12/2023

The newest K9 member of Pawz 4 Vets is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois, also known as maligators because of their intense drive. His shelter names was Tomorrow and he was scheduled to be euthanized at noon on May 5, 2023. I adopted him at 10:00 that morning.

Tomorrow just does not fit a hi-drive dog so I held a naming contest to rename him. The rules for the contest were simple. The name had to have 2 syllables and be a town or city in the State of Texas. In just under 8 hours I had 600 suggestions which contained over 150 different names. I thought I was well traveled in my home state but I had suggestions that I had never heard of. I had to “google them” to verify they actually existed—they did. I only had one name that did not qualify and that was Cinco (5 in Spanish). That would have been the perfect name since I rescued him from death row on Friday, May 5, which is celebrated as Cinco de Mayo. But there is not a city or town in Texas named Cinco. Outside of Houston in Fort Bend Coubty there is a planned community named Cinco Ranch, but there is not just a plain ole Cinco.

The name Reno was suggested twice as many times as the second place name Ranger, so Reno it is.

He has never had any training and really knew nothing at all. I think the volunteers at the shelter were in the process of teaching him to sit but that is it.

I have had him 5 days now and he has learned to sit, down, stay, retrieve a toy and put it in my lap. We are still working on him releasing the toy. All his commands are still works in progress.

He iS NOT aggressive to people, other dogs, or cats. Surprising since he has had no training.

I need to pair him with a veteran in the very near future because he is starting to bond to me and I want him to bond to his new handler. Hopefully I will find him a match soon.

This video is him hitting a bite pillow. No aggression, all play. He loves playing tug.

Gia the Cane Corso has learned to close a door. She is very “lady like” and tries twice to close the door gently until she finally just slams it.

Again Facebook is blocking all the photos and videos of the Veterans and their Service Dogs which is why this page was started and they are flooding it with commercial ads that have nothing to do with the Pawz 4 Vets endeavor.

For non commercial information, videos and photos go to the web site www.Pawz4Vets.com which will direct you to my k9 Texas website. Scroll down and you will find the Pawz4Vets section which is just about them, not facebooks advertising.

K9 TEXAS The Ultimate in Dog Training Our Services K9 Texas Dog Training All classes are one on one, just you, me, and your dog. I do not do large group classes because if there were 10 in a class for one hour, the most I could spend with you would be 6 minutes. And you will spend most of your time....

I am posting this because a bunch of videos and pictures of our veterans and their service dogs are not appearing on this page anymore. Facebook never responds to questions (they just put you in Facebook jail) I am willing to try anything.

Since I created this page solely to display the veterans and their service dogs, daily I delete ads and other posts that have absolutely nothing to do with these service dogs and their veteran handlers

So here goes………….🤔

Hello new and old friends!🥰
It's sad we have to keep doing this to kill the Ads and see our friends

Tonight Jax met his new partner and is off to start his new career as a Service Dog for a disabled Law Enforcement Officer. They hit it off from the start and will make a great team.

Congratulations Michael and Jax.

Max today at the office with his handler Micha. He is trained in German. Sit is Sitz and stay is Blieb. They are doing great and he is settling down fantastically to his new job.

This was Max and his handler working on their stay tonight. He did well except when she touched the door k**b. Max reaction was “momma, you’re not leaving without me”. They are bonding quite well. He goes to work with her and is settling down in his new job.

Working with Jax. Because he was found by Animal Control roaming the streets he is pretty much set in his ways. But he learns quickly and with practice once he is paired with his new life partner he will settle down.

Today we practiced the “wait” command at the door, taught him to shake hands, and started working on “Blieb” (stay). All early on but good progress.

Max has been paired with his new life partner, an Army Veteran from Sulphur Louisiana. They have bonded and are inseparable. A great Win-Win situation.

This is Max the day I received him. Very good looking Belgian Malinois.

Max is a 10 month old Belgian Malinois that was surrendered by his owner. Malinois are very high energy dogs and was just too much to handle for his owner, an elderly lady. I trained him in basic obedience when he was only 3 months old but he has not been worked so he had forgotten most of his commands.

Jax on his 2nd lesson. Like Simba he wants to charge out the door, so learning the Wait command is also on his lesson plan.

This is Jax the first day after his surgery. Very quick learner. He is also being trained in German.

This is Jax, a 2 year old male picked up by the Beaumont Animal Shelter. He was scheduled to be euthanized at noon the day he was rescued by some very sweet ladies. He was rescued literally just minutes before he was to be put down.

This is Simba taken at the rescue shelter Anna’s Angels. Very nice looking young German Shepherd.
