Join us in celebrating National Pet Memorial Day, Sunday, September 8th. This free event is to honor and celebrate pets that have passed away. Bubble favors, snacks and refreshments will be provided. Pet memorial ideas will be on display and free informational handouts will be available. Pets welcome in grassy areas. Per the City of Negaunee, pets are not allowed in the pavilion, on playground equipment, volleyball or basketball courts, they must be on 6ft leash and cleaned up after.

I am officially a Companion Animal End-of-Life Doula. What is a Companion Animal End-of-Life Doula, you ask?

A companion animal end-of-life doula, also known as a pet death doula, provides non-medical, emotional, spiritual, and informational support to people who are grieving the loss of a pet. They can help with the decision to euthanize a pet, and may help owners decide where to have the procedure done. Doulas can also help owners process their grief and emotions. They take a holistic approach to care, considering the physical and emotional needs of both the pet and its owner. They may also help with legacy projects and respite care for family members.

We had a blast yesterday day at U.P. Pride Fest in Marquette! We are sorry to have missed people who may have visited our table that was set up a U.P. Pet Fest in Escanaba yesterday. This is Trixie. She is looking for a new home that can help with her special needs. She is 3-4 year old spayed female tortoiseshell domestic shorthaired cat. She is microchipped but not up to date on vaccines. She is good with respectful kids, scared of dogs and unsure how she is with other cats as to the owners knowledge Trixie hasn't been around other cats.

Trixie has significant stomatitis which is a painful dental disease that affects about 10% of cats and she is need of some major dental work. Her current mom says Trixie is the sweetest cat but she is unable to afford the dental care that Trixie so desperately needs so she is hoping that someone else has the means to adopt her and take care of her dental work.

Kuma Kali is a special girl! She is extremely loving and enjoys being brushed or even just a good head scritch. She loves sitting in her window seat and either napping the day away or watching the birds, she enjoys just being entertained!

Kuma Kali is a long term stay with UPAWS and sadly has been in a foster home for over 4 months now. We understand that sometimes cats with special needs can be overlooked or viewed as more work than another, but; Kuma Kali is special in more ways than one! It is far past time for her to find her furever home. You see, her foster mom has other cats, and Kuma Kali is living in a separate room due to not liking other cats. She longs for her own home with just the right person where she can be the sole center of attention. She prefers to be your one and only!

Kuma Kali needs a home with someone who is patient, able to understand her medical needs and provide the consistent care she requires. Kuma Kali must maintain a regular diet of wet and dry food and she is on twice daily medications. Caring for her is a small price to pay in exchange for all the love and joy she will give you!

In every other way, Kuma Kali is fun, loving, and a little mischievous! If you are willing to put in that little extra effort, you will be rewarded with many purrs and requests for cuddles!! Please share!

As a follow-up to the 7 lesser-known reasons to hire a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to provide pet care in your home, it is important to understand the limitations to what I can provide.

I am NOT a replacement for your veterinarian. I bridge the care between your veterinarian and the care you provide at home. I am an extension of your veterinarian's care. I provide additional support, education and guidance needed for your pet's care, especially when it comes to end-of-life care. I legally CANNOT diagnose, prescribe, perform surgery or independently euthanize a pet. Those services all need to be performed by your veterinarian (who also happens to be licensed to practice and is required to attend continuing education to maintain their license too).

I am NOT groomer. I can trim up hair for medical reasons or to tidy up between your normal grooming appointments. Please note that these types of trims are for functionality and not for aesthetics (in other words, it may not be pretty). Your groomer is trained to make your pet clean, comfortable AND pretty. I am happy to leave the "pretty" part to them.
