What a wonderful resource for those families in need in the Eastern UP!

After a long delay I am pleased to announce I am open and available to schedule appointments! 🥳🐾🎉

My name is Jessica Columbus, DVM, CPEV. I previously owned and operated Best Life Veterinary House Calls, so you may remember me. With the Best Life Vet practice I learned that I have a special talent and reverence for helping pets cross the rainbow bridge. I now specialize in Peaceful Euthanasia of companion animals, and I am offering in-home euthanasia services in the eastern Upper Peninsula. If you are not sure it is time for euthanasia, I also offer quality-of-life assessment consulting in home or via telephone.

My website is still under construction, but when finished will include full pricing and service area information. All pricing is based on the size of the pet, whether aftercare services are needed (cremation), and your location. Basic price range to help determine if my services are within your budget is $325 (smallest pet, no aftercare services) - $685 (100+ lbs, private cremation). There may be additional fees based on your location, after hours appointments, or pets requiring special handling due to fear or aggression. Please contact me at either the phone number or email below and we will determine together if my services are right for you.

PLEASE ALSO UNDERSTAND that I am a one-person business, and at times I am working shifts out of the area as a locum veterinarian. There may be times when my first availability for an appointment is not for 2-3 days. I will do my best to be available for families that need my help as soon as possible, but if your situation is urgent, it may be best to consult with your family veterinarian on how long it is appropriate to wait for euthanasia, or for palliative care in the meantime. My office/phone hours are 9 am - 1 pm M-Th, but home euthanasia appointments may take place outside those hours, including evenings/weekends (upon request, subject to availability).

Please share and help families who need my help to find me!

What a wonderful resource for our community! Pet blood banks are very few and far between.
Did you know that dogs and cats have different blood types like people do? Our dog, Musta, has a universal blood type that be donated to any dog regardless of their blood type. We will be volunteering him for a donation. This will not be his first time donating blood. He has donated 3 other times in the past and he has been perfectly behaved every single time.
Could your dog be a blood donor hero, too?

I am officially a Companion Animal End-of-Life Doula. What is a Companion Animal End-of-Life Doula, you ask?

A companion animal end-of-life doula, also known as a pet death doula, provides non-medical, emotional, spiritual, and informational support to people who are grieving the loss of a pet. They can help with the decision to euthanize a pet, and may help owners decide where to have the procedure done. Doulas can also help owners process their grief and emotions. They take a holistic approach to care, considering the physical and emotional needs of both the pet and its owner. They may also help with legacy projects and respite care for family members.
New services related to this will be coming soon. If you have questions about these new, upcoming services, please give me a call at (231)715-6914 or email me at [email protected]
