All rescues need any support and help you can possibly spare. This is one rescue that is near and dear to my heart. I've been to this rescue and it is ran like a fine tooth comb but more importantly with love.
You see, years ago (like 14) I rescued a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. When I started having some health issues I started worrying about my dogs in case of the "what if" ever happened. Well, I reached out to Roy and asked if something were to happen would he take in my special needs (he was slow to trust) boy. Without hesitation Roy said of course. As fate would have it Mr Max crossed the rainbow bridge a few years back and I didn't have to call Roy. But knowing Max would be safe was such a blessing.
If you can help out TIRR Max and I would forever be grateful

The North Texas Giving Day website is now open for donations. The final date to donate to this campaign is 9/18/25. The site is available year-round for single or recurring donations not associated with a campaign.

Texas Independent Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue is of course a program that has a very small budget compared to most 501c3 non-profits. Our existence and survival is totally dependent on donations. We are the first to say (definitely not boasting) that we have enjoyed much success in the professional dog rescue arena over the last 20+ years. TIRR Rescue’s success is not what Amber, Aimry, Cindy & I do onsite on a daily basis; it is what YOU, our supporters/donors do to help us within this rescue world. When we have success, you are as much a part of the success, as we are. Obviously, this is a result of donations and the many supporters, with ā€œsupportersā€ ranging from financial to volunteering time, to donating items needed in our daily operation, to those that offer an ear to listen when we have challenges. Routinely TIRR will take on dogs that need extensive and expensive healthcare. Unlike many rescues, injured or sick dogs we take in do not wait for relief until funds are raised, we simply pray that we can secure the funds for this care when it is time to pay. We depend upon the generosity of the RR community and our supporters who simply love dogs. In all the years TIRR has been in existence you have always come through and made it possible for us to continue.

TIRR Rescue has always focused on those dogs that other rescues cannot take. Those that have special needs such as behavioral issues, senior dogs, that are considered unadoptable, and those too sick or broken are the focus of our rescue efforts. These dogs are more expensive in terms of immediate care and the expense of long-term care.

The increased costs of veterinarian care and all other costs related to long-term care of the dogs we shelter has hit us especially hard. The only way we can compensate for increased costs is to reduce the number of dogs we care for. I have said ā€œnoā€ to more people wanting to surrender dogs over the past 12 months than I have in the last 12 years. And I must tell you that turning down a dog in need hurts as much as losing a dog that has been in my care for years. The weight of both have taken a personal toll not to mention that of the years that has passed. I woke up a couple of months ago and realized I was 75 years old, 25 of which have been totally dedicated to rescue. Things I used to do before breakfast now take an entire day and the ability to care for so many dogs and keep a shelter running is fast exceeding my personal abilities. To avoid compromising the standard of care for the dogs in our program we have hired additional help. I had no idea all the things I personally took care of over the years could cost so much to contract.

In light of ā€œall of the aboveā€ we need your support more than ever. Please give as you can and please share the needs of our organization with all those you know. As I have stated there are more Ridgebacks, Ridgeback mixes and Ridgeback companions of all breeds in need now more than ever. Only you can make it possible for us to continue caring for those dogs. As long as I can walk to our kennel, I shall continue to do all within my power to provide shelter and care for these broken and unwanted dogs. And all of you support our efforts are the true heroes, for without you the best of our efforts would make no difference.

When all who care support our efforts as best they can great things can be accomplished. It is my promise that every donation be it $5 or $5,000 every dime will go to the purpose intended. For many years Cindy & I personally matched every dollar contributed with a dollar or two of our own. With our primary source of income being Social Security this is no longer possible. We can only give our time, our best physical efforts and our home. We must depend on you for all the other things that are necessary to provide care and sanctuary to those dogs for which there is no other place.

Just in case you weren't clear on my stance on breeding. I don't care how nice you are, how cute your puppies are, or that they are raised in your home. If you are posting on social media and buy, sell, trade sights, YOU are part of the problem. You are not an ethical breeder. You need to stop contributing to the 1000's of dogs that die each day.
So, what is an ethical breeder? An individual that plans out the breeding schedule, that can show you history of health records for both parents, most importantly they have a pretty set home for each puppy before they are even born. Usually having a deposit for each puppy as well.

Spoiler Alert!
Don't read further unless you want a better connection with your dog.

Every tail wag, every bark, every stare into your eyes — your dog is always communicating.

Dogs don't speak our language, but they do have one of their own. They tell you when they’re happy, anxious, unsure, or excited… the question is: Are you really tuning in? Do you pay attention?

🐶 That paw on your leg?
🐶 The yawn when nothing’s boring?
🐶 Walking away when you reach to pet them?

These are all messages. When we learn to understand our dogs’ subtle signals, the bond becomes stronger, deeper, and more respectful.

šŸ’¬ Take a moment today to notice how your dog communicates with you. You might be surprised by how much they’ve been saying all along.

Stay tuned as we dive deeper into communication.

Well this is interesting. Hoping it's a shift in mindset. Curious to see how this pans out moving forward

Good morning fellow pet lovers that think your pet is the absolute bestest thing in the world. Sorry, I won't let your pets hear this but mine are the best. Fine! I love yours just as much.

All across the country today, dogs are waking up early, digging up the plants, and bringing muddy paw prints straight to bed to say one thing: "Happy Mother’s Day, hooman!"

They may not have opposable thumbs or a Venmo account, but if they could, they’d send you flowers (from the neighbor’s yard), brunch (half-chewed treats), and a heartfelt card (read: slobbery tennis ball).

To all the dog moms: thanks for the belly rubs, the extra treats when "dad said no," and loving us even when we steal your socks like they're priceless artifacts.

We woof you.
Happy Mother’s Day

This is a good read. There's so much misinformation and fear tactics. Garlic, just like a lot of other foods can be very beneficial in the right amounts and in moderation.

Unlike its brother the onion, research shows garlic is not only perfectly safe for dogs when used in small doses as described but actually very beneficial. Caution is only advised for dogs on certain meds.

This is a scary buy-out and will further confuse pet parents wanting to truly do what's best for their pets
I stake my name on the fact that they WILL alter the ingredients, lower the quality to lower their cost to manufacture.

You have to do what you can but I would not ever recommend ANY product by Hills (who continually deceives pet owners by using science and prescription on their food) or food made by Colgate Palmolive

Our Story

Set your dog up for success and offer force free natural techniques to bridge the gap of understanding between human and dog. We can do this by teaching humans to understand how dogs think, communicate and interact so that they can build a bond that lasts a lifetime. Teaching your dog should be fun, interactive and interesting and not a chore. I work with dogs that have behavioral issues such as fear, anxiety, aggression, lunging or pulling on the leash as well as basic behavior for puppies or dogs that need socialization.
