𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗮𝗿 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄!

Paws of War's annual car show was held again at our Nesconset HQ this past week, and thanks to all the participants, spectators, sponsors, and our dedicated volunteers, it was a huge success! The show featured more than 250 vintage, classic, and custom cars, alongside military vehicles, and the event drew car enthusiasts, veterans, active-duty military personnel and pet lovers alike to enjoy the festival atmosphere.

It was a great day that impacted several local veterans - including U.S. Navy Veteran Mike Sweeney, and United States Marine, Michael DiNicola; heroes who benefit from fundraisers like the car show. Your compassionate support allows us to continue our mission to provide life-changing service dogs to veterans and first responders in need. Through our programs, Mike and Michael were paired with Reggie and Storm; amazing rescue dogs who have played a pivotal role in helping our heroes manage their combat-related PTSD by faithfully supporting them in their daily lives and helping to enhance their mental well-being. Their stories stand as powerful testaments to the profound impact of service dogs and our vital programs that you make possible.

Paws of War service dogs are rescued from abuse and neglect, or kill shelters, and they graduate comprehensive training to be able to provide mental and physical support to our veterans and first responders. With unconditional love and the ability to address specific needs, the dogs offer comfort and assistance that dramatically improves quality of life for their heroes - bringing support and peace of mind in the face of PTSD challenges and life-altering physical injuries.

It is only with YOU as part of our team that we can continue our mission of "Helping Both Ends of the Leash" and together we can make a lasting impact on local heroes like Michael Sweeney and Mike DeNicola, and so many others.

We are looking for an experienced foster or adopter for Yogi. Will you help us help Yogi? You do not need to be a Veteran or First Responder to foster or adopt Yogi.

Yogi was rescued as a puppy from the Middle East by a soldier as part of our War Torn Pups and Cats program. When Yogi was initially found by a soldier, he was severely neglected. Paws of War was contacted to help rescue this puppy and bring him to the United States to be adopted. Yogi had a great life with his owner, but, unfortunately, due to his owner’s poor health, he was surrendered back to us.

Yogi is a very loyal and loving dog to many. He would be great in a household with a single person or couple. Yogi has made great progress in training but, he needs a person who will work with him in a home environment. He is loved by many of our volunteers and staff. Yogi needs someone who will take him on long walks and play with him and he needs to be placed in a home without other animals or children.

Paws of War will continue to provide training support for Yogi throughout his lifetime.
We will board Yogi when foster or adopter needs this support (vacation, young family visits).

Fostering
Paws of War will provide food, medical care, all supplies. You provide the home and love. Adoption after fostering Yogi is available.

Please apply to foster Yogi at

We were honored to be a part of Operation Vest’s 2024 Dog Tag Run this past Sunday. Their mission is one that compliments ours in such a way as they aim to create awareness and remove stigma surrounding mental health, so our veterans and active military can heal. Thank you to all of our members and volunteers along with their pups who supported this amazing event.

Found on a bitterly cold day in Eastern Europe, little Toby was huddled next to a trash can shivering uncontrollably. Tiny and helpless he would unquestionably have died without U.S. Army National Guard Specialist David stepping up to save him. Toby's rescue mission through our War-Torn Pups and Cats program was made possible only thanks to your belief in our work, and we are deeply grateful for your kind support that helped save his life. After months apart, Toby and David were joyfully reunited when our hero returned to America and we delivered Toby back into his care. Toby has a future now, and a safe forever home where he won't ever have to suffer again!

We also thank David not only for his dedicated service to our country, but for helping a little pup who desperately needed a chance to live.

𝗦𝗔𝗠𝗜 𝗖𝗔𝗡'𝗧 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝗦𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗦𝗛𝗘'𝗦 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘!

Born into a warzone, Sami only knew terror and suffering overseas. Her mother bravely tried to protect and provide for Sami but the odds were stacked impossibly against the dogs and tragically, her mother was killed by enemy fire. Without 13-year Army Veteran, Staff Sergeant Alberto, who stepped up to care for the vulnerable pup during his deployment, she wouldn't have made it surrounded by imminent danger and the constant painful struggle to find scraps of food and any source of water.

After a long and complex rescue mission through our War-Torn Pups and Cats program, Sami has finally made it to America and is being cared for by our team while she waits for her hero to return Stateside. We cannot wait to share their happy reunion with you! SSG Alberto is thrilled to know Sami is out of harm's way, and knowing he'll see her again soon is getting him through the long days so far from home.

The weight lifted from our hero's mind, and saving Sami's life has only been possible through your compassionate support, and we - along with SSG Alberto - are deeply grateful to have you by our side making a difference.

Koda is running out of time in the Middle East. Our team is in action to save him, but we need your help. This gentle dog was abandoned after being injured so badly he required a front leg amputation. Left to fend for himself in the brutal desert heat, he was exhausted, starving, and severely dehydrated when he was found by U.S. Army Specialist E. during a training exercise.

Specialist E. took on the role of caring for Koda; he stole her heart with his loving nature and he brightens her days as she serves our country so far away from home. But with her return Stateside looming, there is nothing for Koda without her, and temperatures will soon reach over 65C (149F) for months on end; animals can die in a matter of hours. Desperate to save his life, she reached out to Paws of War for help because she can't bear the thought of what lies in store for him if he stays behind because he can't make it alone.

Together - with your help, we can make sure Koda does not become another statistic. Specialist E. can give him a life where he is loved and never has to suffer again. She is unable to get her sweet friend safe herself, but with your help, WE CAN!

They’re both 14 weeks old, very friendly, and like all puppies, these two just want to play all day! Given that they are puppies, they do need families with someone home most of the day, to teach them the ropes. These two are great pups, can you be the one to give them their forever homes?

𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗛𝗘𝗥𝗢 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗔 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗕𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗗

It is always a great time at a Yankees game, but it was extra special on Thursday when U.S. Marine Veteran and Police Officer, Matias Ferreira, was surprised with Paws of War dog, Denver, at the Yankee's Stadium. Matias is an active Police Officer with the Suffolk County Police Department and is the first double amputee Patrolman in the country. While serving in Afghanistan, an IED detonated under him causing him to lose both legs below the knees. Matias never gave up and he embodies the message he works to spread that “Life Without Limbs Is Limitless.”

After his application for a dog through Paws of War we invited Matias to meet multiple dogs and when we saw he had an instant connection with an English Cream rescued through our program; we knew he was the one! We also knew Matias was going to name his next dog Denver after he told us about all of the other animals who live him and his wife Megan, all being named after different States. So, that's the name we gave this special boy. We officially presented Denver at the Yankees' home base and seeing Matias' face when we handed over the leash was a heartfelt moment!

Matias has dedicated his life to service and with Denver by his side, will continue to make a tremendous difference to his community and people around the country - bringing comfort, hope, and smiles as they go. We would like to thank all of our compassionate supporters who enable us to give dogs like Denver a chance to have the safe happy homes they deserve, and who stand by our side to give back to our heroes.

Much thanks and appreciation to the Yankees and all of the efforts of those who helped make this day possible.

Paws of War revs up support for veterans and first responders at our second annual car show. Paws of War makes such a huge impact on the community with the help of its amazing volunteers. To help heroes, we need other heroes to help us. Our volunteers are the lifeblood of this org, and we could not survive without them. Our services require a lot of work, and their help directly gives us the ability to save dogs. Thanks to all of these great folks, we can’t do this without you! Special thanks to Ray Meyer for organizing this great event. And while this video highlights our volunteers who attended the car show, we want to acknowledge all of our volunteers, as we can’t thank you enough. Stay tuned for the next parts of recaps of the Car Show, where we’ll be highlighting all of our great sponsors and vendors!

Serving in the war-torn Middle East, Air Force Veteran AJ found Harley, and formed an instant strong bond with her. As his deployment was ending, AJ was devastated to have to leave Harley behind. Determined to reunite with his beloved pup, he did the only thing possible, he contacted Paws of War. Without the help from Paws of War, she would be abandoned in the Middle East. If we didn’t rescue her, Harley never would have made it out alive.

Upon landing and seeing AJ, it took Harley about 2 seconds to realize she was back in safe hands. Harley is now 5 years old and is happily living with AJ, who is now a California wildfire and structural firefighter. AJ and his wife recently welcomed a new baby to the family, and Harley has now started her new mission… As she has taken an active role in protecting the baby at all costs. Including patrolling the perimeter of the yard and house as if to make sure the grounds were secure, exactly like she used to do overseas. AJ’s best friend Harley is now his son’s best friend too. And none of this could have happened without the help of Paws of War. Paws of War helped give Harley a second chance at life, where she will be filled with love, and will never be in danger again.

Hope is looking for her forever home! Surrendered by her previous owner through no fault of her own, Hope was rescued by Paws of War. Paws of War first found Veteran Robert and his service dog Hero both paralyzed, living on the street, and in the freezing cold. We got Robert into a hospital for much needed treatments, and brought Hero to the emergency veterinarian. It was at this time that we learned that Hero was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and only had a month left. We got him into a dog wheelchair to help with mobility, and then he miraculously actually started walking again.

We wanted to make Hero’s remaining days as good as possible, so we started to carry out a bucket list. Hero held on 6 months longer than expected, so we were thrilled to be able to make all of these great things happen. Last month, Hero unfortunately succumbed to his illness, and passed away peacefully.

Hero did so much to help his veteran over the years, so his wish was to give him the proper dignified funeral that he deserved. A celebration and an honor of his life of service to his veteran, one that touched many, was necessary. There wasn’t a single dry eye in the building as the veterans stood by, paying their respects. RIP Hero, we’re going to miss you.
