New to rescue today is Sonja !!!
Sonja is a 2 year old female . She is a healthy girl who has endured a troubled life .
We know her first home surrendered her to a shelter in WI . She was there for 8 months .
She was then adopted by a most wonderful woman . After several months of probably being the happiest she ever was the painful decision to give her up due the woman being physically unable to care for a dog . Had love been enough I’m sure she’d still be home !
Sonja is house trained . She walks fairly well on lead . She hadn’t had a great deal of socialization but she greeted several of us here at the rescue with a wagging tail !
Sonja may be ok with other dogs . Cats we shall see once our Steve gives her the once over .
If interested in adopting Ms Sonja please email us at [email protected]
Also looking for families are Willow and Winter, Jax and Ava , Kalua, Soobie and Lizbeth.
Thank you as always !

Permanent Foster or Adoption home needed:
These are two of the Pyrs I wrote about that are having a hard time finding a home . Imagine being in a loving home all your life and ending up in a shelter !
Jax and Ava turned 8 years old in Dec.
They are house trained and in good health . They can be trusted to be left alone .
They love all people . They likes walks and going for rides .
They require only a four foot fence .
While they are very bonded they each have very different personalities with Ava being slightly more reserved and Jax wanting to experience everything from a taste of your food to a pet or two from the person walking by .
If placed as permanent fosters the rescue will continue to pay all necessary vetting including joint supplements for Ava . This I am offering to increase the likelihood of this older pair finding a loving family .
If you have room in your home more importantly your heart please let me hear from you by sending an email to [email protected]

Thank you to Katherine Vogel and her family for taking her into their pack and giving her a home .

Still in rescue after 9 months are Winter and Willow our 4 year old beautiful bonded pair .
The girls are healthy! They are a social pair who haven’t met anyone they didn’t love !
They are good on a leash and great in a car accept Winter little Ms Houdini will get her leash off but a short chew proof cable will keep her from exiting too soon !
They are used to being groomed and seem to enjoy it as well as pup cups after .
They were house trained but due to their time in care may need some gentle guidance to remember the routine .
They will have an occasional spat as siblings do but have never ever harmed each other and in a moments time they will be joyfully playing .
Winter and Willow while they love each other do not care to be in a home with other dogs . So if you care to tell us about your dog being friendly while I will be happy for you it will not make you a good match
Winter and Willow need a securely fenced yard of
At least 5 feet . And you can tell us all about your Pyr who doesn’t need a fence or that your dog who does fine with a three or four foot fence and while I will be happy for you will not make a 4 footer appropriate for these 2 who have a history of wandering and of scaling a four footer .
Please don’t think for a moment because they have been in rescue a long time they are not great dogs as just as I know what they need I also know just how great they are !!
Please send an email to [email protected] if interested in adopting the pair or would like more information !

Today, Nahnee's owners delivered her to rescue. Nahnee is a sweet, healthy 18-month-old. She is house-trained, crate-trained, and rides well in a car. Nahnee does not dig or challenge fences. She is not and has never acted aggressive.
Why is Nahnee in rescue, you ask?
Nahnee is very shy. She gets nervous with new sounds, new people, and new things. Her owners, with children and a busy household, could not accommodate her. Even after trying everything they knew, they sadly and painfully decided they were not what was best for her. They also knew the hustle and bustle of a shelter would overwhelm her. So, they drove her two hours on this icy day to do what they thought was best.
We will be seeking a quiet home without a lot of people traffic. A home with a well-adjusted male dog would be helpful. A minimum 4-foot fence is necessary, as she is a flight risk.
Patience is a must . And acceptance that Nahnee may never be a little social butterfly is a must as well !

If interested in adopting Nahnee please send us an email at [email protected] for an application !

Finally some really great news !!!
Charlie after 10 months in care has found his family !!
Charlie came into care surrendered by an owner who loved him dearly . She had always made sure Charlie was well vetted , had nutritious food and her love . In time his owner sadly realized that Charlie and her other male dog could not get along as serious fights had occurred . She did the best thing although for her the hardest thing and brought him to us for rehoming .
Charlie had a tremendous fear of men , hated all trucks and was quick to let them know how he felt as well as a distrust of other dogs .
Thru time Charlie began to accept Fed Ex trucks as they came with a treat ! UPS not so much !
We began to pair Charlie with friendly females and worked our way up until he learned to be a gentleman.
Volunteers Dan Sanderfoot coming all the way from Oshkosh each week and Gunner slowly and repeatedly worked with Charlie . At last he had male friends in his circle !
Then came his new family to visit ! Not once but three times until Charlie was comfortable with them .
We then took Charlie to visit his new home and while I thought it was great , Charlie needed time . His new family patiently waited thru 3 visits . And then Charlie moved in .
There were bumps . Big bumps . Charlie was unsure of his new sister Kaja the most beautiful husky and she of him . There were those pesky trucks coming to the house . There was all this “newness “.
But there was much love and much patience from his new owners Dads Conrad and Dustin .
Charlie will live in Manitowoc with them and his beautiful sister Kaja . Queen Kaja .
Conrad and Dustin I can’t thank you enough not only for putting so much into Charlie but also for the wonderful , wonderful life you gave to our Diesel now passed. Twice a miracle !

While I am grateful for the donations received this season, and on this day I am not anxious about heating bills or the source of their next meals, I find my heart heavy. I look into the eyes of the dogs who remain unchosen, who continue to greet me with hopeful expressions, thinking perhaps today they will find a family, only to be disappointed at the end of another day when no one has come for them .
Some of them are beginning to give up as they no longer seem interested in the comings and goings at the rescue . Gone are the crazy tail wags and dancing feet .
There are 5 such dogs here right now .
While adopting them may well keep you on your toes for awhile and probably even cause some disruption in your lives at first ….i will guarantee that as each issue resolves there are few accomplishments that will touch you as deeply as saving a needy abandoned dog .
This week I will feature these dogs .
I ask that you put your thoughts and ideas together to help us find homes . I ask that you forgo any negativity because they have known enough .
I thank all of our adopters , our precious volunteers , all of those who donate and all of you that follow us .
Your presence even as followers keeps us strong .

Who we are...

Great Pyrenees Rescue of Wisconsin, Inc. takes in Great Pyrenees dogs who are encountering hard times.

Some have been abandoned or neglected. Sometimes an owner has died. Others are surrendered by loving owners who can no longer care for their dog.

We provide care, training and love until “forever homes” are found.
