HIGHWAY 30 CLOSURES:
With the closure of the S/14-West 3rd street highway exit, if you take Highway 30 to come to our clinic, you will need to find an alternative route.

---If you come from the West, e.g. Ames, before you get to Nevada (just before the John Deere dealership) you can take the exit to West 18th street and come down Lincoln Way. You can also take the 6th street exit (the one after our exit) and take the first left after the railroad tracks to come down E Avenue.

---If you come from the East, from Colo, you will either need to take the 19th street exit by McDonalds to come down E Avenue or the 6th street exit to E Avenue.

Lincoln Way should not have any closures at this time, which makes another alternative coming from either direction.

Please plan accordingly if you have appointments coming up in the next week, and call us any time at 515-382-2400 if you have questions.

UPDATE: Jasper was adopted!

LOVER BOY AVAILABLE: This sweet guy is the perfect cat: affectionate, happy, friendly, doesn't seem to mind new people, and would probably do well around other animals. We received him in as a stray, but have since neutered him, got him vaccinated, and named him Jasper.
If you would like this charming lap cat, please call us at 515-382-2400 to schedule a time to meet him.

--Don't forget to check out our other two cats: Lea and Sunny, who are both also still waiting for their forever homes. https://www.facebook.com/nevadavetclinicia/posts/974985910945532

UPDATE: All kitties have been adopted into loving homes :)
ADOPTABLE KITTIES GALORE: We currently have 3 cats that are ready to go to their forever homes. Each came in as a stray, but have since been vaccinated, leukemia tested, and all were spayed and neutered.

-Coal (ADOPTED): all black, is very social, talkative, and doesn't mind being picked up and held, but is a super playful and independent guy. We believe he is fairly young, and would be great in any family household.
-Sunny(ADOPTED): brown tiger, is more on the shier, anxious side, and would need time to settle into a new home. He is a sweet boy, but he likes his safe spaces.
-Lea: (ADOPTED) tortoiseshell, incredibly sweet and talkative, and will demand your attention. Loves to sit in laps to be pet, and really likes catnip. She is about 2 years old.

If you are interested in adopting any of these three, please call us at 515-382-2400 to set up a time to come see them.

UPDATE: She has been adopted!

PRECIOUS GIRL AVAILABLE: This little cutie, who we've named Mabel, came to us last week as a stray found in Nevada, and is now ready for her forever home.

Mabel is a ball of energy, and is VERY treat motivated, but is always purring. She'll also jump right into your lap if you invite her up, though she may try to make a toy out of the nearest item to you. She is very social and curious, is not afraid to go exploring, and will make a great pet for any family.

She has been spayed, vaccinated, tested negative for feline leukemia/FIV, so she's ready to go any time. We think she's fairly young, as she's very petite and still has that kitten energy. If you're interested in meeting Mabel, please call us at 515-382-2400 to set up a time to come see her!

CUTE UPDATE: Remember the sweet kitties from our last adoption post for Rocco and his BFF Cricket? Some of you may have even seen these two playing behind the desk at the clinic and how attached they were, though Cricket (orange swirl, stubby tail), had already been spoken for. This meant we needed to find a good home for Rocco that could handle his energy (toddler boy behavior) and love for other cats.

Once Cricket went home to her adopter, Rocco became very sad, crying out for his friend, and now had to play by himself behind the desk, and was acting out for attention. Then, just 3 days after Cricket was adopted, we got a call from her adopter asking if Rocco was still there, and if he could go home to be with them again--and within 30 minutes, he was reunited!

Now called Magenta and Riff Raff, these two babies spend all day cuddling, causing chaos, and playing with their other cat and dog siblings in their new home. They'll get to spend the rest of their life together--just the way Riff Raff likes it.

UPDATE: Rocco has been adopted!

ACTIVE BOY AVAILABLE: This little wild man, who we've named Rocco, came to us after being found in Nevada wandering around all alone. We introduced him to our other stray kitten we have here and he has loved it, but is now ready for his new home. Rocco's hobbies include: jumping up on the filing cabinet, attacking shoes, knocking over pictures, scaling the chairs (and people) and playing WWE with his girl friend. He will definitely need another kitten or cat friend to befriend in his new home to keep developing his appropriate play skills and to keep him entertained and happy.

Rocco has already had his leukemia test, and initial deworming and vaccine, but will need to come back to continue his kitten vaccines and to be neutered in the future.

If you are up for a 24-7, non-stop crazy boy, and would like to schedule a time to meet him, please call us at 515-382-2400!

UPDATE: He has already been adopted!

ORANGE FLOOF AVAILABLE: This guy, who we've named Arnold, was brought in as a stray, and he is ready to go to a home! He is super sweet, social, and loves to explore, as any orange cat does. His tail is as big as a feather duster, and is very soft and expressive.

If you are interested in meeting Arnold, please call us at 515-382-2400 to set up a time to see him.

UPDATE: Lucy was adopted this morning!

FANCY GIRL AVAILABLE: Lucy came to us last week as a stray, and now is available to be adopted! She is a big lover, and always likes attention. She is also a little talker and will meow and chirp when she wants something, like food. She's very food motivated.

Lucy has already been vaccinated, tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV, and was recently spayed.

If you are interested in meeting this sweet girl, or have any questions about her, please call us at 515-382-2400!

Update: Harriet has been adopted!

TWO LITTLE THINGS AVAILABLE: We can Never have Enough kittens! These two kittens, who we've named Harriet and Liam, came in with their siblings a few weeks ago (Niall has already been adopted), and have come a Long Way, but are now ready to go to a new Home!

They are Perfect angels, and are so friendly and playful, but Harriet definitely has a Strong tortie personality! But, at the End of the Day, these kittens are going to be Something Great for any family, and will fit right in with any other pets or kids.
For all kittens, we recommend having an older sibling or similar-aged kitten so they don't keep you Up All Night to the early A.M., and so they can learn proper cat manners. We also recommend getting kittens this young their own Spaces to start off in to make sure they can acclimate to the new home and new family members.

While these two are Ready to Run home, they will need to come back for their next booster vaccines, rabies vaccines, and eventually to be spayed and neutered.

If you would like to say "it's Gotta Be You" to either of these kittens, I Would call us Right Now at 515-382-2400 to schedule a time to meet them before they're Taken!

UPDATE: Benjamin has been adopted!

BAKER #2 AVAILABLE: George the baker (see last post) has a coworker named Benjamin, and he is now also available for adoption! He was found in the same area as George, and has likely been an outdoor kitty for most of his life. He is a little shy still, but just as affectionate, and never stops "making biscuits." And no, you don't need to adjust your screen coloration--he is half grey, half bronze, making him look like he was dipped into a gallon of paint. It just adds to his uniqueness.

Since coming to us, Benjamin has been neutered, dewormed, treated for ear mites, and tested for feline leukemia and FIV (both negative) so he is a healthy boy. We estimate he is around 3 years.

If you are interested in meeting this A+ employee, please call us at 515-382-2400 to set up a time to come see him!

UPDATE: George has been adopted!
HARD-WORKING BISCUIT-MAKER AVAILABLE:
George came to us for treatment after being a neighborhood cat for his whole life. Because of his life outside, he is an independent and confident guy, but is also very affectionate. He instantly purrs when you pick him up, and doesn't mind being held. He'll even make "biscuits" on any surface he can, including into your face, if you hold him like a baby.

Since being with us, he has been neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas, and had a non-cancerous growth in his mouth removed. We also tested him for feline leukemia/FIV, which were both negative, so he can be around any resident cats indoors.

He seems to do well around other animals, due to his history of being in a group of cats outside (called a clowder), but should be introduced slowly to any resident family members to set everyone up for success.

If you are interested in meeting George the baker, please call us at 515-382-2400 to set up a time to come meet him!

UPDATE: All kittens and mom Heidi have been adopted!

KITTIES STILL AVAILABLE: We can hardly believe our spunky little boys & their sweet mom are still available for adoption. Bob, Danny, & Jaymes are all 11 weeks old and super playful, and momma cat Heidi would love to go to a forever home where she can express herself and talk all she wants.

All kittens have been dewormed, and had initial vaccines, but will need to come back for their final kitten vaccines and to be neutered. Heidi is already spayed, vaccinated, and is good to go for a year.

If you are interested in meeting any of these cuties, please call us at 515-382-2400 to set a time to come see them. We would even love for any of them to go home together!

FIREWORK RELIEF: We've gotten many calls lately about fireworks and anxious pets. While there is medication we can get you, not every medication works for every dog, and sometimes there is a need to do a trial & error period before finding a dosage that makes them calm but not too sedated.

One other thing that may help is a thundershirt. These wrap around your dog like a warm hug, and paired with a dark area and some nice distracting TV or music, sometimes these work just as well. These can be found online or at most pet stores.

If you think your dog may need medication for fireworks (and we've seen them within the last year) please call us sooner rather than later so we can make sure we get the dosage right before the 4th.

BABY FRIENDS AVAILABLE: Our four tiny tots, you may remember from our post a few weeks ago, are finally ready! They have been vaccinated and dewormed, but will need to come back for their final kitten vaccines and to be spayed/neutered.

All four babies are social, playful, and would love a cat friend at home to be able to get all of their kitten energy out with. Names and further descriptions are on their individual photos.

If you would like to meet any of these babies, please call us at 515-382-2400 to set up a time!

ADOPTABLE FRIENDS: We have several kitties right now looking for their forever homes! They will all have had age-appropriate vaccines, feline leukemia/FIV testing, deworming/parasite treatment if necessary, and the adults are already spayed/neutered. Kittens will need to come back for the rest of their kitten vaccines, and spay/neuter cost is included in their adoption fee to be done at a later date.

#1: Barry the orange & white cat: Extremely friendly & floppy, seems to be OK with other cats, and would be great for any family.
#2: Heidi the tiger striped cat: Overly talkative, and very sweet and friendly. Is a recent mom who would love a fun home who doesn't mind her noise.
#3 Dracula the grey kitten: Has a particular personality, and needs to go home with other playful, like-minded cats and needs an experienced cat owner. Prefers not to be held right now, but loves to play and chew on everything he can get his mouth on.

If you're interested in any of our friends, please call us at 515-382-2400 to set up a time to meet them. 😺

UPDATE: Jinx was adopted!

SWEET GIRL LOOKING FOR PATIENT HOME:
She may look like a brown bear, but Jinx has got the personality of a teddy bear! She's very sweet, loves being around her people, and seems to do OK around other animals, including cats. She is young and still needs to be treated as a puppy, as far as training goes. Basic commands such as sit, stay, 4-on-the-floor, as well as potty training to go outside, are all things that she will need to be taught at home. In her previous home, it was noted that she gets anxious in a crate at first and can be quite loud with her vocals, so she will need a family who understands she needs time to settle into her new home.

She is spayed, and we have done most of her vaccines already, however, she will need to be brought back for a couple of booster shots if it is not able to be done before she's adopted.

If you are interested in meeting Jinx, call us at 515-382-2400 or email [email protected].

UPDATE: Gigi has been adopted! Thanks to everyone who shared her post.

LOVE-LY KITTEN AVAILABLE: This little girl, who we've named Gigi, came to us on Valentine's Day as a stray, and is ready to be adopted. She is a very talkative, sweet girl, and would make a great friend for anyone. She doesn't mind being held, likes to sit in your lap, and will roll over when she's really happy.

We estimate she's around 8 months, so she has been spayed, vaccinated, and will have a leukemia test before going home.

If you're interested in meeting Gigi, call us at 515-382-2400 to set up a meeting.
