We got some very exciting new fish in from Bali on 3/28/25! We are starting our quarantine process this week, which lasts approximately 2 months, to ensure we sell safe fish to our customers. If you have a quarantine tank at home and can't wait, stop in next week to check out this awesome variety.

Here are a few photos to show the process of setting up our research tank in the greenhouse with OSU Earth Sciences and Engineering Department.

Photo 1: Placing the numbered coral in the tank to be 3D imaged.
Photo 2: Taking a photo of the coral with a GoPro to mimic real life data collected by divers that will then be analyzed by scientists to determine geographic location, size, and health of the coral over time.
Photo 3: Clear background photos of the coral to determine their geometric shapes for future sizing analysis.

This is an ongoing research project that we are very proud to be part of at Reef Systems Coral Farm. This project will help scientists utilize images taken by the general public of corals in the wild, identify those corals based on coordinates, and determine how well specific corals are doing in their surrounding environment and if certain corals are doing better than others to further explore why that may be.

We are on our second year of conducting research in conjunction with The Ohio State University and the University of Georgia. At Reef Systems Coral Farm we are caring for coral that is being utilized by OSU and UGS to develop a 3D approach to photogrammetric techniques to survey coral reefs. This will help researchers determine growth, calcification rates, and heat tolerance of coral at the individual level.

Most reefers are scared to take on sps, but it can be quite simple once you get the hang of it. Stability is key, and with a two part like esv you typically only need to worry about alkalinity and calcium.
