Don’t use blankets because they will freeze when wet. If you see a pet in need, contact animal control at 812-752-4380 Monday through Friday from 10a to 4p, leave a message. 🌨️ COLD WEATHER IS COMING! ❄️

Next week’s forecast brings highs in the 30s and lows in the teens—it's crucial to prepare outdoor pets for the cold snap. 🐾

🏡 BRING THEM INSIDE
The safest place for pets during freezing weather is indoors. Some breeds, like Huskies, have thick coats that can handle the cold better, but others—like Pit mixes, puppies, and elderly or sick dogs—are at high risk and need extra care.

🛠️ PROVIDE SHELTER
If bringing pets inside isn’t an option:

Ensure they have access to an insulated doghouse, garage, or shed to protect them from freezing temperatures.
Dogs accustomed to milder climates or indoor living should never be left outside in freezing conditions.
🧸 INSULATE SHELTER PROPERLY
Use straw (not hay) as bedding inside doghouses. Straw is a great insulator and allows dogs to burrow for warmth.
Avoid using blankets—they retain moisture, which can worsen the cold.
Make sure all insulation and bedding is dry to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.
