Since we already gave a sneak peek of one of our beautiful holdback girls (Papaya) in our recent video, we figured we should introduce the rest of the bunch!

These are our newest holdbacks out of our boy Honey Mustard and mom Sunflower. None of these rats are available, as they’re all being kept to help expand the color variety in our rattery.

Sweet rats start with good genetics!

This little girl in the video was being handled for the very first time today. No prior handling, no training, no conditioning. And yet she was calm, trusting, and gentle through it all. That kind of behavior doesn’t come from learned experience, it comes from good genetics. This is why we’re so passionate about breeding for true temperament rather than masking it through over socialization. When babies are handled too much too early, it can hide their real personalities and make it hard for breeders to tell which temperaments should (and shouldn’t) be passed on.

This little one went into a bright light box for her first official breeder photo and didn’t flinch once. She let me position her however I needed and even started to drift off to sleep while being pet. That’s the kind of confidence and sweetness we strive to build our lines around.

It’s another exciting day of introductions here at Coastline! We’ve been having so much fun sharing our newest additions with you all, and today we have four more incredible rats joining the spotlight. Each one brings something unique to our growing lines, and we couldn’t be happier to welcome them.

🐀 Chip – a Russian dove dumbo dwarf male who never seems to run out of energy. He’s always darting, hopping, and bouncing around like a little energizer bunny, keeping everyone entertained.

🐀 Marshmallow – a black velveteen roan dwarf female. Can you believe she used to be black? The roan gene is such a fascinating one, and we’re beyond excited about the potential this adds to our rattery. She’s an absolute gem and has already completely stolen our hearts.

🐀 Mocha – a black tortie dumbo dwarf female who officially rounds out our trio of perfect little torties. She’s curious, confident, and fits right in with the group.

🐀 Noir – a sleek black dumbo female we just couldn’t resist. We promised ourselves we’d branch out from black rats, but Noir was simply too special to pass up. She’ll be part of a particularly exciting project line that we can’t wait to share more about soon.

Strudel says, “Mom, look what I made!”
Welcome to the world, you five little dwarf beans. 💕 Now it’s time for Shortcake to hand over her beans as well.

Strudel wasn’t the most attentive new mom, so her babies have been fostered by sweet Sunflower, who’s doing a wonderful job caring for them. Strudel, on the other hand, is much happier snuggled up with her sister Shortcake instead of tending to five peeping babies—and that’s okay. Everyone’s safe, loved, and doing great!

The introductions aren’t over yet, we still have a few more posts to make! Each of these rats has their own personality and purpose in our breeding program. Here’s a look at the newest members of the family!

🐀 Brandy – an agouti top-eared female who, much like her sister Caviar, carries some super exciting recessive genes. With our only other agouti female being Jiff, Brandy will help broaden the range of coat colors we’re able to work with and offer in future generations.

🐀 Hazelnut – a pearl merle dumbo female and sister to Ginger. While she doesn’t share her sister’s bold confidence, she has a very warm and gentle demeanor. Once she’s fully settled in, we can’t wait to see how well she blends into our girl colony.

🐀 Malt – a black Satin¹ top-eared male we simply couldn’t pass up. We didn’t necessarily need more black males in our lines, but his coat is so strikingly dark and glossy—reminiscent of our boy Bleu—that he absolutely earned his place here.

🐀 Taffy – a sweet and curious Russian blue dwarf dumbo girl with endless energy. She’s currently in her baby zoomie phase and loves spending playtime with the others in quarantine. She and her sister S’more are already two little peas in a pod.

We’re continuing our introductions of the newest members of our breeder lineup! Each of these girls brings something special to the table, and we can’t wait for you to meet them.

🐀S’more – our little black Satin2 dwarf dumbo female who climbs around like a spider monkey. She’s full of energy and curiosity, and we have no doubt she’ll fit right in with our other dwarf girls once quarantine is over.

🐀 Caviar – a black variberk top-eared girl who’s already showing her attention-seeking side. She’s quick to warm up and clearly loves being the center of attention. On top of that, she carries some super exciting recessive genes we can’t wait to work with.

🐀 Milk – a young ivory top-eared baby girl who will be growing up alongside our next generation of fawn breeders. She brings the potential for more black-eyed c-locus variants, which we absolutely love seeing in our lines.

🐀 Honey – a stunning tonkinese dumbo girl with a soft gradient coat and beautiful points. Photos hardly do her justice! We already have some perfect pairing options in mind for her that we’ll be introducing later this week, and we’re thrilled to be adding this new gene into the rattery.

We’re so excited to start officially introducing some of our newly acquired breeders! Over the next week, we’ll be sharing photos and names of each one so you can get to know them right along with us.

First up, meet a few of our newest faces:

🐀 Ginger – a stunning pearl merle dumbo female with the softest silvery tones and most curious personality.

🐀 Nacho – our tiny siamese dwarf dumbo male whose strong personality and gentle eyes make him impossible not to fall in love with. His points will only continue to darken beautifully over the coming weeks, giving him even more contrast and character.

🐀 Whiskey – a striking agouti top-eared boy with a perfectly crisp wedge blaze. He’s bold, confident, and already proving to be quite the little charmer.

🐀 Macchiato – our chunky black torti dwarf dumbo male. He’s laid-back and snuggly, with a personality that’s just as endearing as his looks.

We can’t wait to introduce the rest of the crew in the coming days. There are so many incredible new faces joining the Coastline family. Stay tuned! 💙

We’ve made it home safe and sound! All of our new additions are officially home and getting comfortable. With that said, we can return to normal messaging with you all tomorrow.

With so many little faces to name, we’d love your help! All of our rats are named after foods, so drop your best food-inspired name ideas in the comments.

A huge thanks to Cosmic Bliss Rattery - Michigan for giving us the opportunity to bring such amazing rats to the East Coast.

On the road this weekend delivering some special rats to one of our Midwest friends and bringing home a few exciting new additions for the rattery. We’ll share photos once we’re back and everyone is settled in.

This tired momma (Chia) is just trying to sneak in a hammock nap… but of course her relentless little ones have other plans. She’s the last of our current moms still nursing, with just one more week to go before weaning. Hang in there, Chia!
