One of the biggest changes made in the nursery is the corner “work station”, where all medical, intake, food prep, etc. is done. It’s changed so many time since 2020 but I think this is it! The shelves were changed out for longer/wider ones. I found a display cabinet that is now holding all medical supplies. I replaced all of the cute fabric bins with a large plastic tote - easier to find items I don’t use daily, but need in the room. Moving ALL of my restock into the garage (anything that isn’t weather sensitive) created a ton of space so the room doesn’t look so cluttered now.

Some of the goals for nursery version 175 (🤣) are:
Easier to disinfect.
Prevent cross-contamination.
Simplify daily care to 1- make it less labor intensive for me and 2- spend more quality time with fosters rather than always cleaning.

Laser is such a great kitten. He loves to play and snuggle. He’s INCREDIBLY social. Being partially blind doesn’t slow him down at all. He absolutely needs another kitty or a human who will be home 90% of the time - he does not like being alone. One night I gave him a bath, trimmed all 4 paws, gave him dewormer, and put meds in his eyes and he was absolutely perfect for everything. Afterwards he snuggled and purred like he was at a spa.

Please help me find a home for Laser. I don’t want him to go back to the shelter as I fear the environment would be too stressful for him.

The next little change with a huge impact! I added a full sized liner to the kennel. Now nothing can fall below to the bottom level or to the floor, helping to minimize cross-contamination and to help keep the nursery cleaner overall. After a successful trial period, I’ll also be adding one to the lower level.

I know you’re all ready for a Laser update 💙

He is doing fantastic. His eyes look amazing (see the 2nd and 3rd pictures for now/first). Likely during neuter they will go ahead and remove the left eye because he has no sight and it will be better for him as he grows up. But he definitely has some vision in his right eye, I’m just not sure what he sees. He’s playful, social, people-oriented and loves cuddles - he especially loves to be on my shoulder or snuggled into my neck. 🥰

Sorry for the lack up updates! I started 2025 with norovirus (brutal, awful, disgusting) and as I was starting to feel better had a sciatica flare up (unless you’ve experienced it, there’s no way to describe the pain).

The only way I can get myself healthy again is to slow down for a minute so today I transferred Amilia to another foster. This is not a decision I usually make, or take lightly so you know I’m in a great deal of pain if I put myself first. Amilia needs more socialization and I just can’t do that for her right now. She is in great hands and I’ll still be just a text away if they need anything. ❤️

✨January✨

We said goodbye to 2024 having seen 43 cats and kittens fostered in the nursery. The losses were heavy, Ollie and Thalia were devastating for me. Going through Panleuk for the first time was a nightmare. But the wins were like rainbows after storms and they kept me going. The success of the Itty Bitty Hissy Spitty Commitee, older kittens like Fig and Subway who thrived when most shelters wouldn’t have given a chance to, and littles like Roo and Jules who had injuries that healed so they could have happy lives. What a year.

Soon I’ll be sharing pictures of the nursery as it’s all put back together aside from some finishing touches. And of course we’re going into 2025 right off the bat with 3 fosters, 2 of which now have Giardia.

2025, please be nice to us!

She can be a bit shy and will need some time to adjust initially, but she is a darling who has the loudest purr motor that never stops. She’s learned how to make biscuits from her sister and wow did she take the assignment seriously. She loves to play and when she gets comfy with being pet she rolls over for belly rubs. Nine weeks ago Pumpkin would growl, hiss and do anything she had to in order to get away from me. Now she greets me with purrs and fresh baked pumpkin biscuits. Apple and her siblings came into my foster program at the end of August. She was the most feral of the trio. Socializing was postponed after Apple contracted panleukopenia (feline parvo). Thankfully she survived and once asymptomatic started a 6-week quarantine period. Finally cleared, hands-on intensive socialization sessions started by separating Apple from her siblings so I would be the one she’d start to depend on - and it’s working! Thanks to your donations, like this small crate from kayyyteeh13 (❤️) I can foster kittens like Apple Cider. The small crate is temporary housing while we do intensive socialization. While the method of allowing a larger space and short interactions worked for Maple Sugar and Pumpkin (un)Spice, it clearly has not helped Apple thrive. My 3 hissy spitty kitties are doing SO well. Cora is vocally asking for and seeking attention. Her and Cody both purr when being loved on or held. Cody also loves belly rubs. Bali is still hissy, but she’s coming around and I know we’ll get there. And their #tinybutmighty brother Ollie is spending a few hours with them on and off throughout the day.
