A lot of things have been in the works lately. I’m excited to announce that we now have Winnabow K9 gear available!

Emmy Lou got to train through a fun distraction today - the distraction of people coming over! My family was here, so she practiced greeting people well and we did some training while my family hung out. Functional training is the best kind!

Cooper and I had a “different” kind of training session today! My parents were over, so I asked my mom to help out for a few minutes. She walked my husky, Floki, around on a leash near us while I worked with Cooper (who of course was also on a leash) to continue desensitizing him to that.

Then, we ramped things up a bit. Since Cooper got really excited about balls being thrown/kicked and the chase that occurred at the park the other day, we decided we would work on desensitizing to that as well. I had my mom just play fetch with Floki while Cooper held his “place” command.

This teaches Cooper a couple things: 1, that he doesn’t always get to chase after something he wants. 2, that he has to remain obedient no matter what is happening around him. And 3, that he is allowed to relax even amidst chaos (or what he perceives as chaos).

Baxter’s tongue is always slightly sticking out 😂 you can’t tell me that’s not the cutest thing in the world.

He’s beginning to lure into his commands now! He’s got lots and lots of energy, so being able to place him occasionally will be important for his owner. With that being the case, that’s where we started with building a foundation for his “stays”.

Emmy Lou gets the same serious look about food that Piper (my lab) gets sometimes 😂

My two fluffs have provided some distractions to work through as we progress through her training. While they pose pretty for pictures, my dogs are more often running around and doing things while Emmy Lou and I practice her training. She doesn’t appear to be all that distractible as far as other dogs are concerned. She’s picking up her commands quickly and is able to hold her stays with some stability. We’ve been using slightly more leash pressure as we work, so we’re continuing to use treats but we’re also pairing the pressure of the leash with the use of treats to help her understand what we want when we tap the leash.

I have so many clients who are either active duty or veterans from the service, and I also have a good amount of friends and family members who served, to include my father and grandfather. Who knows what our lives would look like without each and every one of them.
