Awesome Team Work!!

Arrest Made in Hyman Road Shooting

On November 13, 2024, at approximately 9:10 AM, the Craven County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting at CarolinaEast Medical Center after a victim arrived with a gunshot wound to the arm. Investigators determined the incident occurred in the 600 block of Hyman Road following a verbal altercation.

During the confrontation, the suspect, later identified as 45-year-old Latoya Margaret Whitted of Dover, NC, retrieved a firearm and shot the victim. The victim was able to disarm the suspect and throw the firearm into a nearby field before seeking medical attention. The suspect fled the scene in her vehicle.

The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later assisted investigators and the K9 unit in locating the firearm. The suspect, Latoya Whitted, was arrested later that afternoon by Investigators of the Criminal Investigations Bureau and charged with:

• Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Inflicting Serious Injury
• Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

Whitted is currently being held with no bond for the assault charge and a $40,000 secured bond for the firearm possession charge. She is scheduled to appear in court on November 14, 2024, at 9:00 AM.

****Please help us welcome our newest K-9 Handler of the K-9 Unit, K-9 Herman!!!****

Meet the Handler and K-9:

K-9 Deputy Herman has served at the Craven County Sheriff's Office since January of 2023 and has served as a Patrol Deputy and began with K-9 Elliot in September of 2024.

Meet the K-9 :

K-9 Elliot is a 2 year old Belgian Malinois and is a Patrol K-9, trained in Narcotics Detection, Tracking, Article Searches, Building Searches, and Criminal Apprehension. K-9 Elliot was donated the to Craven County Sheriff's Office by Throw Away Dogs Project and Global K9 Protection Services. We can't thank them enough for making a difference in our community!!

We look forward to seeing what these to accomplish in the future!
