‼️ IMPORTANT MICROCHIP INFORMATION ‼️

The microchip company, Save This Life, has abruptly closed. This means any microchips under this company are no longer traceable! Please visit https://www.aaha.org/for-veterinary-professionals/microchip-search/ to check to see if your pet's microchip is still valid. If your chip has been affected, please register it as soon as possible! You may visit https://www.freepetchipregistry.com/ or check with another company such as HomeAgain, 24HourPetWatch, PetLink, SmartTag, or AKC unite to re-register the chip.

**Please note, this is NOT the microchip company we use, so if your pet has been microchipped through us, your pet's microchip is not impacted. If you are unsure of your cat's microchip number, please call and we can check if it's in your cat's record and provide that information to you.

CHECK THIS OUT!! 🦷

We had the honor of working with Puff and her owners to help treat her Osteomyelitis (a nasty infection in her jaw bone!). With this procedure, she is on the way to being able to eat better, be more comfortable and have a better quality of life. Dogs and cats aren't the only pets that need dental care!

February is National Pet Dental Month but we celebrate good quality dental care year round!! All of our dental procedures include:

Induction into general anesthesia & monitoring: These monitors will assist the doctors and technicians in knowing how well your pet is oxygenating their blood, what their blood pressure is, how their heart is working, respiratory patterns, and the level of gas anesthesia they will require. In addition to the electrical monitors, there will also be a technician by your pet’s side the entire time manually monitoring and taking notes.

Full mouth radiographs. X-rays are a vital part of each dental procedure; they allow us to see how healthy the entire tooth is. Many times a tooth can look healthy but still be harboring disease below the gums. We will take an x-ray of each tooth prior to cleaning, and we will also take radiographs after each tooth extraction.

Ultrasonic scaling of each tooth. This allows us to remove plaque and calculus that has built up on the surface of the crown as well as under the gum line, where periodontal disease begins.

Once the teeth have been removed of plaque and tartar, each tooth is measured for sulcus depth and charted. Sulcus depth tells us whether any of the tooth’s attachment has been affected by disease or not.

Extractions if necessary are done on a case by case basis. These often require removing the multiple rooted teeth one root at a time with elevators, drills and other specialized equipment.

Polishing & Irrigation. Each tooth is polished with a mildly flavored prophy paste. This smooths the tooth surface and removes any small scratches that are left. The mouth is rinsed with saline and a bacteria-killing solution to clear any debris.

Recovery. After the dental procedure is over, a technician will stay with your pet until they are fully awake. Their endotracheal tube will be removed once they regain their swallowing reflexes and their IV catheter will be removed shortly before being discharged.

Discharge & at home care. The technician will go over any medications that will need to be administered and answer any questions you may have. You will also be sent home with a dental kit for at home care and prevention.

Happy National Chocolate Cake Day!! 🍫💗

While your pet would be thrilled to participate in this decadent holiday; their body would not!!

Chocolate is dangerous to pets, particularly dogs, because it contains theobromine, a stimulant that dogs cannot metabolize efficiently. This can lead to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, increased heart rate, tremors, seizures, and in severe cases, even death. Darker chocolate poses the greatest threat due to their higher theobromine content.

If you are stocking up on sweets for today or Valentine's Day, please keep them away from curious noses who cant wait to indulge!!

🧣❄️ Cold Weather Safety Tips for Pets! ❄️🧣

As temperatures drop, it’s important to keep your furry family safe and cozy! Here are some tips to help your pets stay warm during the winter months:

🐾 Limit Outdoor Time: Keep outdoor activities short, especially for senior, smaller, or short-haired pets.

🧣Keep them Cozy: Consider a sweater or coat for dogs, especially those with short fur. Make sure it fits comfortably and stays dry. Make sure to provide warm dry beds for naps.

🍲 Keep Them Nourished: Pets may burn more calories to stay warm, so make sure they’re getting enough food. Check with your vet to see if any adjustments are needed.

🧊 Watch Out for Ice & Snow: Salt, ice, and snow can be tough on paws. Wipe their paws after walks to remove salt, ice, and chemicals. Consider using pet-safe salt for sidewalks and driveways.

🌾 Feral Cat Housing: Make sure feral cat shelters face away from the wind and use straw for bedding—never use blankets, as they can freeze and become dangerous for the cats. Keep fresh, unfrozen water available.

🚙 Check the Car: Never leave your pet in the car and always beep your horn before starting the engine—cats and small animals may seek warmth in the engine during cold weather.

💨Storm Prep: Create a disaster kit with at least 5 days of food, water, blankets and medications.

🐶🐱 Stay Safe, Stay Warm! Let’s keep our pets cozy and comfortable this winter. Share these tips to help others protect their furry family members too! 🐾

Remember, if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them, bring them in!🔥🧣
