SB 5 now makes it illegal to chain dogs up outside. It also makes it illegal to leave them outside without adequate shelter.

Starting Jan. 18, 2022, unattended dogs will no longer be allowed to be restrained with chains or heavy weights outdoors in the state of Texas. The practice has been banned in San Antonio city limits since Oct. 2017.

We’ve gone through a lot of changes the last several years…babies, moves, loosing Chloe and I’m starting to get the itch to start baking again. I no longer have my commercial kitchen or commercial equipment and I have two tiny humans running around demanding my attention so it would be on a much, much smaller scale.

IF Chloe’s Barkery were to make a comeback in 2022, what types of products would you like to see?

There’s a lot of confusion and debate about what non-GMO and organic labels really mean.

The labels are very different!

It’s crucial to know the difference if you want to pick out the healthiest and safest food for you and your family.

Here’s what to remember:

Organic food is non-GMO, but non-GMO food isn’t necessarily organic.

Let’s break it down...

✔️ Non-GMO Project verifies that a product doesn’t contain GMO ingredients. While that is good, it’s not the whole story about what the product contains, how it was produced, and where it came from.

✔️ USDA Organic regulations prohibit any GMO ingredients in a certified organic product.

✔️ Organic crops cannot be grown with synthetic pesticides. Non-GMO crops can be grown the same as conventional crops and can still be laden with toxic pesticide residue.

✔️ Glyphosate (Roundup) is prohibited on organic crops. Non-GMO crops (such as non-organic wheat and non-organic oats) can be sprayed pre-harvest with Roundup. This herbicide accumulates in your body the more you are exposed to it and is linked to cancer.

✔️ Organic ingredients aren’t processed with the neurotoxin hexane.

✔️ Organic crops are prohibited from being fertilized with sewage sludge (biosolids) which is literally the treated waste that’s flushed down the toilet, and waste from hospitals and industry.

✔️ Organic meat isn’t produced with growth-promoting drugs, like ractopamine.

✔️ Organic animals aren’t fattened up with growth-promoting antibiotics. Antibiotics have been used for years, not just to fight infection, but to fatten up farm animals. The overuse of growth-promoting antibiotics is creating superbugs that could threaten the entire human population.

All of this is why the Non-GMO label is NOT enough!

When I have a choice, I choose certified organic food for these reasons and more!

What would happen if you fed your dog🐶 245 cloves of garlic🧄 in a week??

21 years ago an experiment was conducted by Japanese scientists🇯🇵 who wanted to know what would happen if dogs were fed lots of Garlic Extract🧄💦 for 7 days straight.

At the end of the trial, NO dogs died.🙏

In fact, none of the dogs even showed any symptoms, but the scientists found microscopic🔬 changes in some red blood cells🩸, leading to the conclusion that garlic may be toxic☠️ to dogs.

How much garlic extract was fed to these dogs in the study, you ask? Well it would be the equivalent of feeding a 70lb golden retriever🐕 245 cloves of garlic for one week (2.46lbs of raw garlic).

Since then, the ASPCA, American Kennel Club, HSUS and most online pet resources continue to say “garlic is toxic to pets," but garlic is listed as a safe pet food ingredient by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). Confused? So are most pet lovers around the world.

Tune in to our Forever Dog Food Myth Busters Facebook live tomorrow at 10am ET on The Forever Dog page.

We cover garlic confusion and many other urban legend food fears in our upcoming book, The Forever Dog, available now for pre-order.

Friends please consider fostering if you can. The Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area, Inc. is dangerously over crowded.

UPDATE! We have been contacted by ANGELS who are covering the medical needs for the dogs still at risk - NOW WE NEED FOSTERS!! What an amazing outpouring of support from our community! Keep up the good work New Braunfels!

Posted earlier this week: We are dangerously overcrowded at HSNBA and we are having to make some VERY difficult decisions. We believe there IS a home out there for every pet, however, we don't have the time, the resources or the room to wait any longer on these dogs. Their deadline for an approved foster/adopter/rescue is FRIDAY 7/27/18 at 7pm.

Meet the newest member of the pack. William David Muchnikoff. He arrived at 4:01 this morning and mom and baby are doing great!

Please bear with us as we adjust to life with a little one and recover from a tough delivery. We will be taking a few months off to recover and adjust to our new life.

As always we appreciate your support and look forward to serving you in the future.

Meet Snowflake! This tiny chihuahua mix puppy came into the shelter as a stray last week. Just two and a half pounds, skin red and itchy, hardly any fur at all and the telltale smell of demodex mange.
We didn't have to give a second thought to rushing her to the vet and getting her whatever treatment she needed and finding a foster home for however long it will take.
As we look forward to 2018, we know we will see more "Snowflakes" and we want to be READY. We've only made it about halfway to our "Gift of Life" Campaign Goal and we need your help NOW! Donate today and PLEASE SHARE!

Our Story

Chloe's Barkery is a full service dog bakery. We only use natural, human quality ingredients. Never any artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, fillers or by products.

I know we've been a little MIA lately but we wanted to share our happy news! We are getting our fur babies a baby human!

Because of this and some set backs experienced this year we will be taking an indefinite leave of absence. Please bear with us while I figure out how to manage a full time job, making treats, pregnancy and eventually a tiny human! With any luck we hope to return to the dog treat business Spring 2018.
