Hollow Tree Ranch

Hollow Tree Ranch The Hollow Tree Ranch is a fun, family-oriented and faith inspired place where people of all ages ca With ease, he reached the bottom safely. Or one chainsaw.
(147)

Once there was a curious little boy who wondered if the tree in front of his house was hollow. After great research, surveying the tree with a flashlight and contingency planning, a strategy was crafted. With the supervision of his big brother the boy climbed up and carefully lowered himself into the tree. Mission accomplished! He inspected the interior of the tree with pride, having fed his curio

sity to fulfillment he was ready to be lifted out. When the time came to be lifted out of the tree, via the safety rope secured around his waist, he found that he was unable to get out. He struggled with his own cowboy boots that prevented him escaping. Terrified, his big brother pulled, je**ed, yanked the boy would not budge. Defeated, they had to get Dad involved. He came to the realization that a chainsaw was the answer. At first the plan was to take the entire tree down with the boy still inside. Sure, it would be a big bump, but he would be free. After all, that tree needed to be removed anyway so why not kill two birds with one stone? Mother intervened and a better plan was presented, afterall this was her baby boy we're talking about. A piece of rebar was hammered into the tree trunk for the boy to stand on and Dad cut a hole at the base of the tree. The boy was free and a lesson was learned. Much like life, sometimes we find ourselves in difficult situations no matter how well we plan. However, The Father is always watching over us and when we rely on Him, we can pull ourselves out of any holes we find ourselves in.

Another update.

Just prior to Thanksgiving, Jason had three lessons with Jeff, which were designed to teach the basics. He’s also gotten a good amount of exposure to the horses by volunteering on the Ranch and helping with some trail rides by this time. He provides a good recap in the post below of where he is. Matt’s assessment of his journey as of this date is posted in the comments as well.

Following this post, Jason took the skills he’s learned at Hollow Tree Ranch to Louisiana for Thanksgiving, and we must say it was an impressive showcase. We’ll post about that later.

As of today, Jason has been back at the ranch and focusing on riding, including several more lessons with Jeff. As for next week, it’s a big one. Following several additional lessons with Jeff (weather permitting), Jason is going to show us what he can really do. And eventually Matt and Jason are going to create video montages that showcase Jason’s experience from Day 1/Lesson 1 through the end of his training so you can really see how far he has come!

More on that later. For now, if you’re interested learning to ride, reach out to us at www.hollowtreeranch.com.

Here's another update on Jason from a couple of weeks ago. He already had one formal lesson from Jeff in the "small pen." The point of that lesson is learning to understand the horse's body language, and learning to control the horse with hand movements and signals. Now it's time to mount up for lesson number two.

Here, Matt and Jason provide a recap on what he's learned so far and what he's going to learn. Later, we'll post some actual videos on the horse showing you his progress (hint: as of today, he's come a long way). But more on that later. If you want more details now, follow their pages at "Texas Adventures" and "Cowboy Country Adventures."

If you're interested in getting your own lessons, just visit www.hollowtreeranch.com to get your journey started today.

Moonlight Ride at Canyon Lake - Part 2

Quick follow-up to Part 1 showcasing Jason's saddling skills in the moonlight (and some light provided by Matt too). Matt pokes some fun at Jason, but he obviously needs to work on those cameraman skills. 😉

More updates on Jason's progress back at the ranch later.

For now, if you want to make your own memories at Canyon Lake, visit us at www.hollowtreeranch.com to schedule your ride.

Moonlight Ride at Canyon Lake - Part 1

A couple of weeks ago Jason got to experience one of our awesome moonlight trail rides at Canyon Lake. He hauled his first horse with Matt and Jeff, and he helped get everything setup for the ten riders we had with us that night. He's moving in the right direction, step-by-step.

Want to ride at beautiful Canyon Lake with us? Reach out to us at www.hollowtreeranch.com and we'll figure out the best date and time that works for you.

HTR Homeschool Post - Part 2

Meet our “HTR Homeschool Crew”

Aleyna Gates (pictured in the blue sweatshirt)
Izy Baker (pictured with the helmet)
Adyson Gates (pictured in the pink t-shirt)

The Homeschool Program will be under constant adult supervision during every session, of course, but these are the kids who will take the lead in integrating your child into the Program. They have years of combined experience and have been given leadership roles to help other kids just like them learn to ride and experience the joy that comes with it. No matter your child’s level of experience, each will be taught basic horsemanship step-by-step by our HTR Homeschool Crew, from how to properly saddle a horse to how to properly control them. And as your child gains more experience, they will make their way to the Enclosed and Open Areas to learn intermediate and advanced riding skills.

We’ll post a video later next week introducing you to the HTR Homeschool Crew and showing you what to expect when you first arrive. For now, if you want to teach your kids how to ride and give them access to meaningful memories and friendships all at the same time, visit www.hollowtreeranch.com for more information. You can also reach out to Matt directly at 210-560-7477. Whether you bring them once a week or once a month, your child will have access to experiences and friendships they won’t soon forget.

If you Homeschool your children (or know someone who does), Hollow Tree Ranch is the perfect place for you. As any Homeschool Parent knows, academics are only part of the school day. In addition to math, science, and reading, a well-rounded education includes providing your child with opportunities to experience the real world first-hand. It also includes networking with other Homeschool parents and children who can provide your child with opportunities to develop strong bonds, social skills, and meaningful relationships. Hollow Tree Ranch provides just that.

We currently have several Homeschooled Staff and Volunteers who have extensive experience working the ranch and tending our horses, and they are the perfect team to welcome your child into our Program. [We will introduce them in the next post.] They will help your child (no matter their experience level) learn everything from the basics of saddling a horse to advanced riding skills during their time on the ranch, and soon your child could be riding like the girls in the attached photos. As importantly, your child will get the opportunity to bond and socialize with other wonderful kids while they’re here.

If you’re interested (or know someone who might be), visit www.hollowtreeranch.com for more information. You can also reach out to Matt, who will be helping to supervise the Program, for more information at 210-560-7477.

Jason's Journey - From English Guy to Texas Cowboy? Update

Here's another update on Jason's quest to become a Cowboy. If you're going to learn to ride, then one of the first things you need to know is how to saddle a horse. Here, Aleyna, one of our favorite volunteers, gives Jason a thorough lesson. This was about two weeks ago, mind you. You should see how good he is today! We'll show you soon enough. But next up is Jason helping us out on one of our amazing Moon Rides at Canyon Lake, and then some of his experiences riding at the Ranch. More to come soon.

Also, we'll be posting a lot more detail about our new Homeschool Program on Friday. We're very excited about it, and we hope you are too. If you homeschool your kids or know someone who does, keep an eye out for our Friday posts.

Jason's Journey - From English Guy to Texas Cowboy? - Update

As promised, some more insight into our efforts to convert Jason into a Cowboy. Prior to working his first day on the ranch, Jason and Matt volunteered to help out on one of our amazing trail rides we do routinely at beautiful Canyon Lake. He learned how to properly trailer the horses; how to setup and saddle up once we arrive at the lake; and he got the chance to chat with Matt about his experience while grazing the horses.

Follow Matt and Jason's entire journey at their "Texas Adventures" and "Cowboy Country Adventures" pages on Facebook. More updates on Jason's overall journey (including helping with a Moonlight Trail Ride) from us later as well.

For now, if you're interested in riding around beautiful Canyon Lake with our wonderful horses, go to www.hollowtreeranch.com to contact us and reserve your ride today!

Jason’s Journey at Hollow Tree Ranch – From English Guy to Texas Cowboy? (Part 2)

As promised, here is our favorite video of Jason so far. On his very first day he got a great lesson in what NOT to do on the Ranch! But he took it in stride and has been a trooper ever since. More updates on his progress later.

On a separate note, we've created a new step-by-step video for those of you who are beginners or novice riders but are ready to get in the saddle in our beautiful Enclosed Arena! The video shows you what to expect when you arrive and the overall experience once you get here. We'll post it later today.

If you're ready to ride, now through Christmas is the perfect opportunity (and weather) to make it happen!
