We are a 501 c3 registered non-profit horse rescue organization. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome neglected and abused horses. Horses at our rescue are often surrendered by their owners, but we also attend local auctions to intercept horses from Kill Buyers-- people who purchase horses to sell to slaughterhouses across the border for human consumption.

We are really happy with Magics progress. He is rehabbing nicely and even has some shape to his b***y now. We aren’t there yet….. but we’ll get there.

This kindhearted horse also just likes to be with people. Him and amigo are the perfect pasture mates. They get along amazingly. No fussing between them.

Visited with Amigo for a bit today. What a super kind horse he is. He’s healing nicely and steady, enjoys his pasture time with Magic and literally walks from wherever he is to meet you. ❤️❤️

❤️‍🩹Liberty❤️‍🩹. A little bit of a long video, but it’s of Liberty. She played and played in the arena area. She was happy. She is able to move about just fine. So long as she keeps feeling good and doing good, we’ll keep right along with her. Her first days seemed gloomy, but she’s turning around. She is eating and drinking well. Slowly adding the spark back in her. Keep healing Liberty. We’ve got all the time you need. ❤️

❤️Liberty❤️

Less than 24 hours in and she is so much more relaxed. Everything is new. New sights, new sounds, new smells and new people and plenty of horses. She probably had no idea that we were the good people and that this is her place to stay. No more neglect, no more fear.

She happily stuck her cute little snoot out her windows to catch all that goes on behind the barn. Day by day and little by little, she’ll realize she’s finally safe.

A little over a week ago I was contacted to help a horse that had been found roaming estray and no one came for him. 🥺. He was in jail with our county sheriffs office. I scheduled an appointment with our vet, and Jeanna and I and Dr. T met at the holding facility to draw his Coggins. We were allowed to pick him up today. We are calling him amigo. He is an estimated 20 yo gelding. He is as sweet as the day is long. Aside from being malnourished and some pretty bad scars on his “ankles”, he seems fine. Welcome Amigo to HBCH.

💔Rant ahead💔 for the love of all things holy, please humans do better! I was notified about this horse literally as she was going through the auction ring. I was told she was poor and seemed blind in one eye. I, with nothing more than one lot pic, asked my contact to bid on her. I lost the bid…. I figured the person who got her didn’t have the best of intentions for her. , so I asked if they would transfer her to me and I’d pay what their high bid was. I was countered, pay the bail plus $50. So I did. Once I was able to get more pictures of her, I became suspicious of DSLD. We saved a one eyed blind, incredibly thin mare with DSLD. Where are her humans that watched all this deteriorating and did NOTHING. She was hauled to auction to squeeze the last few dollars from her. It’s maddening and sickening. We will do what we can for as long as we can. I’ll find some solice that she wont be shipped on to another auction or worse. Today we welcome former tag #433, who we now call Liberty. Many thanks to Larry and Jeanna for picking her up today and getting her settled. $300 bail and a $50 up charge to get her safe. So disappointed in humans today. 🥺

Cross posting only. Not HBCH horses.

I received a message regarding these horses.

Hi Linda, I received your contact information from a neighbor after I posted on the neighborhood website about a couple of horses that need a new home. They are very gentle and beautiful animals aged 19 and 22. Both are very healthy and have been well cared for. Please let me know if you know of anyone who may be interested in taking them. Feel free to contact if you have any questions. Thanks!

The darker horse "Cinimon" is the 22 YO and "Rusty" is the 19 YO. Both were trained for riding, but not been ridden in over ten years. They are both in the Timberwood Park area. (N San Antonio). Thanks again and let me know if you have anymore questions or if anyone wants to come see them.

HBCH is not in a position to help these horses at this time. All the information I know is above from the message I received.

Message the page and I will put you in touch with who messaged me.

We help when we can. 2 horses and their owner experienced the unimaginable. Their pasture, their barn, the trailer, all their blankets and all her tools for the horses were destroyed in a fire.

I didn’t know these horses. I didn’t know their owner. I was asked to help getting these horses to a safe spot, away from a fire that kept rekindling.

The owner didn’t know me. Yet through friends of friends, she trusted me and this rescue with her horses. She trusted a stranger to pick up her horses from the smoldering field and bring them to me from Florence, Tx.

Tracy and Bryan Johnson (Jesty, Mellie and Sadies’s adoptive parents made the original contact with me to help.). They have worked so hard coordinating all the things to get these horses to safety.

Now their owner needs all of our help…. To rebuild and get her beloved horses back home. I donated $100. Can you donate to get her the funds to rebuild? Can you donate materials? Can you donate equipment needed to scrape away all the burned up hay and debris? Anything helps. Buddy and Ellie wish to go home. Their owner Wendy wants her babies home.

Our friend and AAFAME colleague, Wendy Richey, recently experienced a devastating fire … Donnie Rogers needs your support for Help Buddy & Ellie return home!

I have sent to the horse brand identification site, but I’m impatient. 🤣

First image is raw. Second image is what my brain told my eyes to see.

Roan gelding found estray in Guadalupe County.

Anyone recognize the brand?

Today we held another open arena day. It’s a day when any of our volunteers are able to just enjoy the horses and the rescue. It’s a time to step away from the work we all do and see the fruits of our labor. I was busy moving some stalls around and I missed most of it, but I did get to capture these pics of Tiffany and Goose.

Other horses brought out were Trip, Brit, Bleu and Abbie and I didn’t get a picture one of any of that. 🤣

Lulu was the cause of our unexpected veterinary visit today. She was also scheduled for a farrier appointment. While holding her for her trim, I removed her fly mask and was alarmed by what I observed. She had an uveitis flare. We had no history of her having this condition, so it was quite unexpected.

Luckily Dr Thometz was able to come by and stain her eyes and we are thankful there were no ulcers present.

Her age is not on her side with this and it’s very possible she will lose sight in both eyes. Devestating news indeed, but we are going to take things one day at a time.

Please keep Lulu in your thoughts.

Many things went on today at the rescue. We had farrier day, open arena day, an unexpected vet day and hay day.

Here’s the first of many posts. We took in another delivery of hay which now fills both bays in our overflow barn. This load was 168 bales added to probably 150 in the other bay. It’s nice to have this much hay on hand, but I know even this much likely won’t get us through the winter. 🤯

I also was finally able to help today. Normally our deliveries come during the week when I am at work so Larry and Carl do it alone. Those 2 are lifesavers.

Thank you to Jamey, Chance, Vianney and Larry and Carl for the unload today.

🐴Magic🐴

Therapy began today! Magic received his first red light therapy and Magnawave sessions.

He absolutely loved the treatment on his poll, all but falling asleep on me.

Long ago, I learned the value of both these therapies, but the rescue couldn’t afford to have practitioners out as much as we needed or wanted. Our horses have typically been through hell and have some type of injury as Magic does. So I went out on that limb, got myself certified as a practitioner to treat horses, humans, small animals and other livestock to boot. I personally financed the equipment and now we can treat our horses whenever we want.

Magic was a true gentleman. Stood ground tied, but the rope kept getting in my way, so I took it off. He stood perfectly for both treatments. That’s how you know it feels good. ❤️
