Kevin seems great around other dogs, is about 60 pounds, and heartworm negative and of course vaccinated and microchipped. We canNOT recommend him to a home with cats.
This dog is guaranteed to keep you laughing with is goofball antics and genuine love of life!

Looking for a new way to get out and about and give back in 2025?
Check out our "Doggy Day Out" Program! It's when volunteers "check out" a dog for the day to visit pet friendly establishments, got to the park, and get a pup cup! Itās a great outing for our junior volunteers to do with a parent or guardian and as you can tell ā the dogās love it!
Pictured here is Guinevere, who as you can tell not only loves kids, but was a dream in the car and at the park! Sheās a young (8-month-old) terrier mix weighing in at a petite 40 pounds! She came in as a stray at the beginning of December and is eagerly awaiting a new home!
Find out more about our Doggy Day Out program and all of the ways volunteers can help the shelter pets on our website: https://www.hsnba.org/get-involved/volunteer/

If you're home over the new year's holiday and want to add some fun and energy to your household, here are some of our kitties still at the shelter that need a foster home over the next few weeks! Some have medical needs and others need a little bit of socialization, while most of them just need more room to room and be a cat or kitten until they are fixed.
If you're interested in fostering any of these guys, email [email protected], or stop by the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area at 3353 Morningside Drive. ā„ļø

Whelen Needs a WIN
Whelen entered the shelter as a stray at the beginning of November, so we have no idea what his breed mix is or what his life was like before he landed at HSNBA. He's about 60 pounds, fixed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative.
But we recognized right away that this "plain brown dog" was going to get overlooked here at the shelter and potentially deteriorate behaviorally if it took him a long time to get adopted. So, we put out an urgent plea to find Whelen a FOSTER HOME who could house him temporarily, get to know him better than we could here in the shelter and help us figure out the best family for him to thrive.
And boy oh boy did he find a great foster home! They have discovered he's a terrific house guest, LOVES toys and balls, is housetrained and crate trained and is very much a "Velcro dog" - he loves to be right by your side all the time. He loves being out in the yard and getting zoomies in the grass - he would probably really prefer a fenced yard over apartment living unless his adopters are VERY active outside of the apartment. He's great with kids but still working on basic manners like jumping up on folks when he gets excited, so a home with seniors may not be a great fit. He hasnāt much of a chance to interact with other dogs, so if you have a dog at home, we would like to do a āMeet and Greetā to make sure they get along!
Whelen will be here with his foster family to meet potential adopters THIS WEEKEND for our Adoption Event - remember, we are open Saturday AND Sunday from 10am to 4pm!

Mila and Sophia!
If these girls could talk.... maybe they could tell us what they had been through so we could help them more but we are left guessing that perhaps, they were the last pair of an unwanted, unexpected litter left to their own devices for weeks if not months, finally rounded up by Comal County Animal Control about 3 weeks ago and brought to HSNBA for safe keeping.
At intake, they were terrified, flinching at every touch, unfamiliar with the concept of walking on a leash, they had to be carried around the shelter and lured from place to place with the promise of a tasty treat. We are fairly certain they are sisters, about a year old and both about 50 pounds. Our best guess at their breed is maybe shepherd/hound mixes but of course we just canāt be sure.
Until these girls landed at the shelter, we doubt they ever got a kind word or a gentle touch from a person. They were turned loose like trash to fend for themselves and now we are faced with the difficult task of finding them a place to go.
Sophia and Mila are eligible for foster care or adoption but we need to find them homes that will continue to work on their socialization ā as you can tell from the video of their outing this week ā they have come a LONG WAY in just three short weeks but weāve reached the end of the help we can give them in this setting ā they need a home, and a fenced in yard and to find people who can give them the time, space and patience they need to blossom into the terrific dogs we know they can be.
While as you can tell, they get along great, they REALLY need to be separated due to a phenomenon called āLittermate Syndromeā ā this is a condition that can occur when two puppies from the same litter are raised together and bond too strongly with each other. This can lead to behavioral issues such as aggression, separation anxiety, difficulty bonding with humans, and overwhelming fear of new things. These girls are already showing a lot of signs of Littermate Syndrome, so it
MORE Puppies in NEED!
This litter of puppies was found just around the corner from the shelter over the weekend and were brought to HSNBA for safe keeping by a concerned citizen. They are about 3-4 months old and totally overwhelmed by the shelter.
You can tell from the video that they WANT to be cuddled and loved on but they are just too scared. They are at the PERFECT age for their lives to change FOR THE BETTER with some dedicated and devoted foster homes and adopters who can show them some love and patience.
We are looking for FOSTER and FOSTER TO ADOPT homes for these four puppies to get them out of cages and onto couches for the holidays. They really need a head start on figuring out what it means to be a beloved member of a family ā whether it is for a couple of weeks in a foster home or for forever in a Foster to Adopt home. They canāt get fixed until mid-January, and then we can formalize adoptions after they have been fixed.
They are all named after the characters in the āA Court of Thorns and Rosesā series ā 2 boys and 2 girls ā Tamlin, Rhysand, Nesta and Feyre. Our best guess to their breed is some sort of shepherd lab mixes, and they will be medium to large sized dogs full grown.
HSNBA provides all needed supplies and keeps our foster pets healthy with regular vaccines and parasite protection, these guys just need a place to go where they can be given the attention and affection they are so desperate for!
If you are already a REGISTERED FOSTER PROVIDER with HSNBA, just swing by and let us know you are ready to foster! If you have not yet registered to foster with HSNBA, please submit an application HERE: https://www.hsnba.org/get-involved/foster/ and as soon as we get it processed, we will invite you in to pick out your puppies!
If all you can do is SHARE ā PLEASE DO!

Kevin landed at the shelter as a stray just 2 weeks ago so we don't know a whole lot about him yet but he's a real character! There's something about those expressive pit bull faces that wins us over every time!
Kevin seems great around other dogs, is about 60 pounds, and heartworm negative and of course vaccinated and microchipped. He's scheduled to get neutered this week and would be ready to go home Friday! This dog is guaranteed to keep you laughing with is goofball antics and genuine love of life!

MEET ROCCO! WHAT A HUNK!!! š
When this handsome fella came strolling through the door, we felt certain he would have an owner here frantically looking for him, but alas, no one ever came. We have found he is great with other dogs and loves making new furry friends and would thrive in a home with another playful canine companion. (However, heās not a fan of cats, so a feline-free household is a must.) His boundless enthusiasm for life makes him the ultimate adventure buddy, whether itās hiking, running, or just an intense game of fetch in the yard.
Despite his size (80 pounds!) and strength, Rocco is convinced heās a lap dog! Heās incredibly cuddly and loves to snuggle up after a day of fun. Be prepared for lots of love and goofy moments with this big-hearted boy.
Rocco is extremely strong and would benefit from leash training to help him channel his energy during walks. A patient and active adopter who can provide the structure he needs will be the perfect match for him.
If youāre looking for a loyal, loving, and high-energy companion, Rocco might just be your perfect match! Come meet him and see how this sweet boy can brighten your life. Enjoy this video from his latest "Doggy Day Out"!
What Rocco wants most of all is to be adopted, but he would also really benefit from a foster home as he is getting a little sick of shelter life after a month in our care. Please come by an meet ROCCO and let's see if we can make a match just in time for Christmas!

š£ We are in desperate need of a foster for Miss Walnut. She is the absolute sweetest, especially considering how she came to us! She came in a couple weeks ago with a broken pelvis and a broken back leg and she āØ HAS TO BE ON CRATE REST āØ for another 4 to 5 weeks. She is going stir crazy here and doing flips inside of the cage š«£. We think a change of scenery and a little more hands-on attention will help her get through this tough time while she's on crate rest. Once those 4 weeks are over and she hits her 3.5 lb mark, she can get surgery for that leg!
We would really like to find her a foster home within the next day or two, and if you're interested, please come by the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area, or email [email protected].
In the early hours of the first Sunday morning in November, an emergency call came through to New Braunfels Welfare and Rescue - a very sick puppy had been found in distress.
An officer was immediately dispatched and rushed the puppy in for emergency vet care. It was determined the puppy was not only suffering from a severe lack of food, it was riddled with intestinal parasites. The officer named her WINNIE - because he wanted her to WIN!
Luckily, parasites are pretty easy to treat but getting her back up to a good weight was going to be a painfully slow process but we had the perfect foster home step up to take Winnie into care and fatten her up!
In foster care, Winnie has been a beloved member of the family, but it's time for her to strike out on her own and find a loving home of her very own. She has been well socialized with kids and dogs and is even getting the hang of going outside to go potty and learning how to walk like the little diva she is on a leash!
Winnie will be spayed, vaccinated and microchipped this Thursday and we'd love to line up her new home NOW so she doesn't have to spend one single night in a kennel.
Winnie is probably a pit bull mix, about 4 months old and will be a medium to large sized dog when full grown. We have no idea what horrors she endured before she landed at HSNBA, but our deepest hope is that she never ever wants for anything ever again.
If you are ready, willing and able to show this puppy how amazing live can really be - now and forever - apply now and we can facilitate a meet and greet!
