HOW MUCH FOR A KITTEN?
Let me say a few words to you, yes to you, the person writing an email, just to ask for the price. The person who calls and after hearing a price surprisingly says: "I can buy a cheaper kitten elsewhere". I speak to you too; the person who doesn't care about papers because I want "just a pet".
No cat is “just a pet”.
Behind every purebred kitten there is a BREEDER. I use capital letters to differentiate a breeder from a pet factory or mill. A reputable breeder will not breed undocumented cats, which does not protect the integrity of the breed. Registration (papers) are lineage records that document the bloodline and enable one to investigate possible health problems in the lineage. When you tell a breeder that you don't care about papers, you are really telling them that you care no less about the kitten's health, just the cheapest thing you can find! When you buy a kitten from a reputable and high quality breeder, that breeder is responsible for the health of every kitten; this breeder is skipping the holidays, missing out on sleeping and most of his personal home space has been converted into space for his cats. The truly passionate breeder who loves what he breeds puts all of his heart and soul into it. Not only with kittens that are sold, but also with every customer who has a piece of his heart and is now a member of his extended family. Breeders worry about their babies after they leave and take them back without question.
A breeder will "get their hands dirty", often burdened with everything that comes with giving birth. Because that's what life is about ... In the midst of birth and death is life. The wheel that keeps turning. A breeder carries out tests, x-rays, analyzes, emergency operations, vaccinations, litter, family trees, deworming and microchips for his kittens and has them assessed by specialists.
Last but not least, a breeder chooses the family lucky enough to have one of their kittens. Yes, you read that right. A real breeder chooses who to sell to because he doesn't make any money selling it. There is no compensation that can offset the investments made by a breeder. Hence, they need to be sure that they fit properly. Often saying no more than yes ... A good breeder has different criteria for those who want to continue their bloodline. Why? Since breeding is not a responsibility to ever be taken lightly, it is a lifestyle choice reserved ONLY for the devoted few who are willing to sacrifice.
Because a cat is never "just a pet" it is the breeder's legacy, a little boy's best friend, a protector for little girls, therapy for the elderly, a family member, someone's whole world !!!

This dog has been believed to have been sold out from under a breeders nose! He was in a guardian home, and has been missing for atleast 4 days now!

Update: 11:02 am. Silly is out of surgery! I am soooo grateful for the team. Had we NOT worked together, she would have DIED. Her uterus was ready to burst!! GOD BLESS ALL THE TEAM!

Yesterday, one of my future queens, was having a severe medical issue... I questioned pyometra (uterine infection in female animals that can and WILL kill them if not treated immediately/or spayed!). I called our regular clinic, and they KNOW I'm a breeder, explained symptoms and sent photos via email. Sat on hold for 2 mins, while they discussed with our vet... their response "dr.... is concerned about pyo, and we can get Sylveon in on MONDAY MORNING at.... a.m.".. I'm like ... WHAT??!!! Pyo CAN be deadly! I reiterated this AGAIN to the tech... nope we are booked.. but we can try and get you in MONDAY MORNING, at ..... a.m.. I AM like, no.... I NEED here to be seen ASAP, as she's not right. Ok.. so I watched for 2 hours... she RAPIDLY DECLINED. I called vet again! Nope, we still can't get you in until Monday a.m..... GRRRRR..... so, I called my, back up vet... explained the situation. The FIRST THING THEY SAY.... "we are booked, HOWEVER, being the situation, let me go talk to your vet, BRB. 45 seconds later, she was on phone, telling me we can get her in TODAY (yesterday, thursday), at ..... pm. GREAT! I asked if I could get a ride sooner, would that be OK? YES! just let us know when you on your way! Awesome! Ok, so I got a ride, and we went to vet. This whole time Silly, is declining. The vet confirmed it WAS an open pyometra like I suspected, and we did tests, etc to confirm. I am SO VERY GRATEFUL for our new primary vet!! The other clinic will now be a back up only! Had I not listened to my gut, Silly would have DIED by Saturday night!! Not all vets/clinics are on the same page! I'm not here bashing ANYONE! I am simply stating that I'm forever grateful to Dr. Nancy and her vet team for being able to get us in!! Had I not gotten her in, I WOULD HAVE LOST SILLY SYLVEON!!! just so everyone understands, her wbc (white blood cells count) SHOULD be about 17,000.... hers...44,680!! AND SEVERELY ANEMIC due to the blood loss.

This post is to THANK THAT VET AND HER TEAM! I am also a FIRM BELIEVER IN EDUCATION! we ALL have to learn sometime!

OK, so I'm going to put this out there! Another PSA!!:

ANYONE who gets an animal should do due diligence in researching who you are dealing with and what their practices are when getting an animal. This applies to ALL ANIMALS!

Easter is coming up, we all know baby animals are cute.. that's just a given! However, these animals are a lifetime commitment! They are not just throw away pets when they aren't behaving perfectly, or you don't have time for them!

I am going to put this out there... I AM a Maine C**n Breeder. I own and run Fancy Minnesota Maine C***s. I have successfully for the past 5 years! In those 5 years, I've taken back 3 kittens previously placed with well verified pet parents. 2 were adopted together, and both were eventually returned, for severe health issues CAUSED BY GREEDY VETERINARIANS who care more about $$$$, than getting the pet better! Because the vet they saw, 1 of those kittens died, after 3 days back in MY care. I immediately took him to my vet, we started him on antibiotics, but we didnt and couldnt have known that, until after i had to hire a lawyer to just get the records! Then, those same vets, sit there and bash us good, ethical breeders who ARE doing due diligence and doing the best for what they produce!

The other 2, well, one was adopted out to another family, who was fully informed of the possible issues in the past, and took that cat on! 1 I have here, who more than likely will have a furrever home here, unless I find her, her perfect home! Neither of these 2 cats, had NOTHING wrong, just crap a vet(s) decided to give them excessive medications for things they didn't need!

I am tired of hearing "adopt don't shop". Excuse me??? 99% of the animals that are in rescues and shelters are from irresponsible back yard breeders (byb) who care ONLY about $$, not the breed, nor animal! A good, ethical breeder WILL stand behind what they produce! I personally vet ALL of my clients. I HAVE turned down MANY people for various reasons! Mainly, because they are looking for "cheap, quick possession." My cats are a lifetime commitment. I only let queens breed 1x a year, in rotation. Yes, I have kittens all year long! But I WILL NOT breed a queen more than once every 10 to 12 months! It's not healthy nor fair to them. Animals aren't meant to reproduce that much. I breed, to preserve the breed! I want to make sure that those I am putting out there ARE the best quality, features of the traditional breed!

I am soooo tired of most (95%) vets who think breeders are the "problem". BYB'S ARE THE PROBLEM! if I didn't do my job, then the vets would not have one either!

My point... DO YOUR RESEARCH! quality means more expensive. You get what you pay for!!! Why? We are not being "greedy". 99% of the money I make, goes back into my kids! This means, doing DNA tests, reading and studying COI'S, pedigrees, etc. Being a breeder is a hard enough job. If your not ready for a lifetime commitment (10 to 20 years), then DONT get an animal! Period!

I WILL NOT compromise my values, to "sell" a cat! I am jot going to do ANYTHING unethical! Don't ask! I WILL NOT negotiate my prices either! DONT ASK! I set my prices, according to the market, my vet costs, food, litter, toys, etc. After everything is said and done, I literally make $ .13 cents an hour, per kitten! Uhhh.. you are willing to buy fast food (big mac meal is average of $12+), yet want to gripe about what my prices are! I don't see you complaining to McDonald's about their prices! I am NO different! I am a human who is trying to earn a living, and not live off the government! Yes, I AM disabled! I have not ever collected SSI! I may not be able to work an outside job! I have made a job where I can do something I love, and help my family. I don't know about you, but 13 cents an hours, from birth to go home, is NOT a lot of money!

The next time you go to jump on someone else's bandwagon and bash... think! Not everyone is equal!

Update, on our Pichu... our "messy eater!
Pics are posted! 1st is 3 weeks ago. 4.5 months old. And today!

Pichu, is a dark red and cream purebred mc! He's a keeper here! He's the son of Bayonette and Mario.

So, the last time we were at the vet, Dr said to us n pichu... " He NEEDS to grow and eat!". He was 1.2 lbs! Well, today I'm very pleased to report, pichu is well over 3 lbs! He took docs words literal, and next week we go back for an official update and shots!
