Holiday Closure Announcement 🎄

In observance of Christmas, our hospital will be open from 9am-1pm on Tuesday, December 24th and closed on Wednesday, December 25th. We’ll reopen on Thursday, December 26th to resume regular hours at 9am. Please plan ahead for any pet needs, such as food or medication pickups, before the holiday!

Yumi is a Blue-tongued skink, which is a family of stocky, short-legged lizards native to Australia, Tasmania, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. They are best known for their vivid blue tongues. Of all skink species, blue-tongued skinks are the most popular pets because of their fascinating color and interactive personalities. Yumi enjoyed meeting Dr. Caitlin Goncz and CVT Dani and did great for his first examination! Although it’s not quite as fun as toys 🧸 and treats 🦴, the best thing you can give your pet this year is the gift of good health. We have opened additional appointments for well visits on Tuesday, December 10th and Tuesday, December 17th. Technicians are also available for nails, glands and ear appointments on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. And don’t forget about those monthly parasite preventatives, they make great stocking stuffers! Not sure what your pet is due for? In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, our hospital will be closed on Thursday, November 28th. We’ll resume normal hours on Friday, November 29th. Please make sure to pick up any medications or food ahead of time, and remember to keep your pets safe during the holiday!

Did you know? November is Pet Diabetes Awareness Month! Here are some important facts to keep your furry friends healthy:

🔹 Diabetes in pets is more common than you think, affecting 1 in every 300 dogs and 1 in every 230 cats.
🔹 Symptoms to watch for: increased thirst, frequent urination, weight loss despite a good appetite, and lethargy.
🔹 Early detection is key! With proper management, including insulin therapy, a healthy diet, and regular vet visits, diabetic pets can lead happy lives.
🔹 Pets are more likely to develop diabetes if they’re overweight, older, or have a genetic predisposition.

Welcome to Big Rock Veterinary Hospital! We would love to have the privilege of getting to know you and taking care of your pets. Dr. Ann Cirillo has been in practice for 27 years. She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1990, then completed an internship in Anesthesiology. She has been in private practice since then, and is passionate about advocating for her patients who cannot speak for themselves. Stop in to meet her or learn more about how we can help you and your pets.
