Our History

Faithful Friends was founded in 2000, as Citizens for the Protection and Care of Animals, by a group of local animal lovers who believe there is a better way to address the problem of pet homelessness than mass euthanasia. At that time, 80-90% of animals entering shelters did not make it out alive. Currently, about 13,700 pets become homeless in Delaware, and close to 600 are euthaniz

ed in Delaware's publicly funded shelters. The vast majority of these pets are euthanized because of space limitations, behavioral issues, and medical challenges. These numbers do not take into account the thousands of homeless cats that huddle near dumpsters, living in fear. They need our help and the best solution is a coordinated Trap-Neuter-Return effort and a colony care program. Pet overpopulation and homelessness is a community problem, not a shelter problem. It takes a unified effort within the community to solve the problem and to do so in a humane, effective manner. Faithful Friends is committed to the national no-kill goal for the entire state. This state goal is in line with the goal set by Best Friends Animal Society to make our nation and no-kill nation! This means that we are committed to working for a day when all Delaware shelters save ALL healthy, treatable, and trainable animals, resulting in a 90% or higher save rate. Faithful Friends is also committed to fighting for animals' welfare of animals in all local shelters so that all pets in our community receive the treatment and care they deserve. Create a community that is committed to the lives of animals and humanely reduces the birth of unwanted pets through spay/neuter initiatives.

2. Find suitable homes for adoptable dogs and cats and provide sanctuary for those who - because of age, illness, or temperament - require long-term or lifetime care

3. Reduce pet relinquishments and manage feral cat colonies in the community whenever necessary by providing critical support services

4. Enhance the bond between pets and people; utilize the shelter and adoptable animals as a teaching and healing tool to benefit people

5. Build from the success of the most forward-thinking leaders in animal welfare who are spearheading the national no-kill movement; reduce euthanasia rates in Delaware to reflect the national no-kill goal of 90% or better save rate. No-kill is defined by saving all adoptable, treatable and trainable dogs and cats (and where community cats that are unadoptable are kept out of shelters unless injured or sick; and where instead their caretakers are supported in the community where they have made their homes)

6. Drive public policy and program development in animal welfare in Delaware to make our state the first no-kill state in America

🥧Finalizing your Thanksgiving plans? Have an extra spot around the table? Invite a shelter pup for a SLEEPOVER!😴
🥧Maybe you aren't ready for the full-time commitment of a dog, but we're hoping that with the Thanksgiving festivities fast approaching, you will consider opening your home to a shelter pup temporarily!
🧼We hope to open up a few kennels and also DEEP CLEAN during the Thanksgiving holiday!
💙 Even a few days' break is a much-needed reset for the pups in terms of their stress and ability to handle the kennel environment. Much like our weekends for our work week, you can provide an essential break to a pup in need! Homes without other pets are most in need, but we do have some pups who have done well with other animals as well!
🐾Please fill out an interest form: https://bit.ly/FFASfosterDog for more information and to get signed up to pick up a pup sometime next week!
🐾 If you are already approved to foster, please reach out to [email protected]
💙With dog cuddles and kisses as the best compensation, who could say no? Please consider, tag your friends and SPREAD THE WORD! Let's get as many pups as we can into a home for the holidays!
💙If you're ready for the full time commitment of adopting a pup, you can still visit us Tuesday-Friday from 12pm-7pm & Saturdays from 12-5pm to pick out your new forever friend! We have so many pups who would be happy to meet you, and you can take a peek at them all here: https://faithfulfriends.us/adopt

Have you met our Tri-Pawd Trio!?
💙Sage came to Faithful Friends after she was found on the side of the road by a family in an area known for pets being dumped. They brought her home but couldn't keep her so they brought her to the shelter. We quickly noticed that Sage had an injured back leg and after being looked at by the vet it was discovered she had an old break that had healed wrong and the only option for her was amputation. So Sage is now an adorable tripawd but it doesn't bother her one bit! She gets around as well as any other dog and she needs no special medicine, equipment, or attention. We think it gives her character!
💙Pierre is a 4-year-old Yorkie who was hit by a car and sustained several injuries including a femur fracture which is unfortunately going to require the leg to be amputated.
💙Our newest tripod, Beefy, recently had his leg amputated after an old injury, when he was a stray, didn't heal correctly.
✨Pierre and Beefy are still healing from their surgeries, but Sage is more than ready to be adopted! https://bit.ly/AdoptDogFFAS

Beefy recently had his leg amputated after an old injury, when he was a stray, didn't heal correctly. He is recovering nicely but deserved some time out of his crate to stretch and get used to having 3 legs - and of course some extra love!

Beefy has officially hit 3️⃣0️⃣ days at the shelter😔 But he's gotten 30 days of love from staff and volunteers!!💕💕💕
Say hello to Beefy, our charming 2-year-old pup! With his handsome looks and laid-back personality, Beefy is the perfect blend of fun and relaxation. He's a go-with-the-flow kind of guy, making him an easy fit for any home.

Beefy enjoys the company of other dogs, so he'd love a furry friend to share his adventures with. Whether you're heading out for a walk, lounging at home, or exploring the great outdoors, Beefy is always ready to join you!

If you're looking for a sweet, adaptable companion who can keep up with your pace, Beefy is your guy! Beefy is currently recovering from a leg amputation, but will be back to his old self in no time!

Meet Petey, Sweetie, and Honey Bee: A Loving Trio Looking for a Foster Home Where They Can Stay Together
At Faithful Friends, we believe that every dog deserves to feel loved and cherished, especially in their golden years. Petey (11), Sweetie (12), and Honey Bee (10) are three senior dogs who found themselves at our shelter after their owner, due to health challenges, realized he could no longer provide them with the care and love they deserve. While they’re safe here, their hearts are heavy as they wonder why they’re no longer in their home.
This bonded trio has spent their lives together, and now they’re hoping to find a family or a foster who can keep them together for the rest of their days. They’re small, sweet, and full of love, and they would make the perfect companions for someone looking to offer a peaceful, nurturing environment in which they can continue to thrive.
Meet the Trio
• Petey (11 years old) – Petey is a gentle, loyal boy who enjoys the simple pleasures of life—like a nice walk or cuddling with his best friends. He’s affectionate and easygoing, with a calm demeanor that makes him a pleasure to be around.
• Sweetie (12 years old) – True to her name, Sweetie is a kind, loving girl who thrives on companionship. She enjoys spending time with her friends, Petey and Honey Bee, and is a comforting presence in any room.
• Honey Bee (10 years old) – Honey Bee is a gentle soul with a heart full of love. She’s a little cuddle bug who enjoys being with her pack and would be happy spending her days resting in a warm lap or enjoying a relaxing walk.
These three love each other deeply and are inseparable. They enjoy walking together on a leash, and they are always happy when they’re in each other’s company. Although they’ve faced some hardship, their loyalty and loving nature are still very much intact.

💙Faithful Friends partnered with Brandon Novak to help get our pets adopted this holiday season!
Meet Rocket—a super handsome guy! Rocket hopes to find a high-energy family who can give him all the love, activity, and patience he craves. He might still get a smidge bigger at around 11 months old and 52 pounds. His dream home would be one that loves adventure and is ready to help him continue learning all his best boy manners. Rocket hasn't yet had the chance to experience the love and care of a family of his own, and he has so much affection to share with the humans who'll give him that opportunity. Could that be you?
💙If you are interested in adopting Rocket, or any of our animals, please visit https://faithfulfriends.us/adopt/

I'm Jasper! I'm an adventurous 11-month-old pup weighing in at a perfect 40 pounds. I came from a shelter in Maryland, where I was found as a stray, but now I'm in a cozy foster home, learning all about what it means to be loved!

I'm a friendly guy who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and adores all the humans I meet. My foster family is helping me come out of my shell, and I can't wait to share all the love I have to give with my forever family.

If you're looking for a playful, affectionate companion who's ready for new adventures, I'm your boy! Come meet me, Jasper, and let's start making memories together!
