It takes a unified effort within the community to solve the problem and to do so in a humane, effective manner. Faithful Friends is committed to the national no-kill goal for the entire state. This state goal is in line with the goal set by Best Friends Animal Society to make our nation and no-kill nation! This means that we are committed to working for a day when all Delaware shelters save ALL healthy, treatable, and trainable animals, resulting in a 90% or higher save rate. Faithful Friends is also committed to fighting for animals' welfare of animals in all local shelters so that all pets in our community receive the treatment and care they deserve. Create a community that is committed to the lives of animals and humanely reduces the birth of unwanted pets through spay/neuter initiatives.

2. Find suitable homes for adoptable dogs and cats and provide sanctuary for those who - because of age, illness, or temperament - require long-term or lifetime care

3. Reduce pet relinquishments and manage feral cat colonies in the community whenever necessary by providing critical support services

4. Enhance the bond between pets and people; utilize the shelter and adoptable animals as a teaching and healing tool to benefit people

Build from the success of the most forward-thinking leaders in animal welfare who are spearheading the national no-kill movement; reduce euthanasia rates in Delaware to reflect the national no-kill goal of 90% or better save rate. No-kill is defined by saving all adoptable, treatable and trainable dogs and cats (and where community cats that are unadoptable are kept out of shelters unless injured or sick; and where instead their caretakers are supported in the community where they have made their homes)

6. Drive public policy and program development in animal welfare in Delaware to make our state the first no-kill state in America

Where are they now? April (then Candace) was adopted in Feb 2011. Her family remembers when they chose her, the staff tried to get her out of her cage and she ricocheted off everything and they had to get out using heavy-duty gloves. One FFAS employee asked, "Are you sure?" And they said, "Yes?" She's been a sweetheart ever since. She still doesn't like to be picked up, but she comes up on their laps every day for snuggles. Her favorite thing in the world is chin scratches.

Where are they now?
Nova (whose name is now Cillian, pronounced like Killian) became a part of his family in September 2024. He has integrated very well into their daily lives and is getting along famously with his big brother Rexfurd. As time progresses, he continues to reveal more and more of his personality to them, such as his very playful nature and endless amounts of energy (so BOUNCY! )
As a side note, we have discovered he loves to chase after and bite bubbles to pop them. He is also very sweet and affectionate in his calmer moments; one of his favorite things to do is lay in bed and snuggle with us on weekend mornings. He enjoys several walks daily and at least weekly visits to the local dog park. They worked with Ben, our trainer, to iron out some house training issues; otherwise, it was smooth sailing. Cillian has met his extended family on various trips back to Connecticut and is beloved by both sides of the family. They are looking forward to continue giving him all the care, love, and affection he needs for many, many, many years to come

❤️Sage is such a sweet, easy, soulful pup. She is around 7 years old, 65lbs, she is completely house and crate trained and she loves training and learning new tricks. She has the most soulful eyes that will melt any heart! Unfortunately, she has been with us since August 2023. 💙Sage came to Faithful Friends after she was found on the side of the road by a family in an area known for pets being dumped. They brought her home but couldn't keep her so they brought her to the shelter. We quickly noticed that Sage had an injured back leg and after being looked at by the vet it was discovered she had an old break that had healed wrong and the only option for her was amputation. So Sage is now an adorable tripod but it doesn't bother her one bit! She gets around like any other dog and needs no special medicine, equipment, or attention. We actually think it gives her character! 💚Recently Sage spent Thanksgiving with our staff member, Joyce, and her husband! She has wonderful house manners, loves to snuggle, can stay home by herself with no problems, and loves everyone who visits her! ❤️She is past her puppy period and has figured everything out but she still has the energy to do all the fun things like hiking, walks, or playing in the yard. Sage loves every human she meets! She would prefer to be the only pet in your home and she deserves the world after everything she's been through. 💙Come meet Sage and her soulful puppy eyes! Our History Faithful Friends was founded in 2000, as Citizens for the Protection and Care of Animals, by a group of local animal lovers who believe there is a better way to address the problem of pet homelessness than mass euthanasia.
