🎆4th of July Firework preparation @ Riding Quest
Most of the horses who have been here for pat 4th of July celebrations deal with the 💥 fireworks as best as they can.
Here are ways we can support the babies and newer horses to the noisy holiday.

🐴 calming music as a buffer will
be playing in the barn

🐴 We will have all the fans running as white noise.

🐴 Essential Oils – we will
be setting up diffusers in the afternoon with calming oils, so Everyone is breathing them in long before the fireworks start!
🐴 Adding extra Serenity and Copiaba Essential oils to grain is highly recommended for the whole weekend
🐴 A new lick it treat is a good distraction
🐴 Horses that are very sensitive to sound will need the pomms ear plugs. ($11.95 on Amazon)

Often in view, sometimes acknowledged but rarely (or incorrectly) addressed! Spoiler alert 🚨 changing the neck doesn’t come from training the neck, it comes from core hypaxial engagement, to lift the back and cause positive relaxed cervical engagement. The neck of the horse is often pinpointed as an important factor in modern dressage, alongside limb action.

The conformation and muscle development of your horses neck can truly be a sign as to their mechanics of action during exercise. An overdeveloped underside of the neck (brachiocephalic muscle) is often a tell tale sign of incorrect riding and posture.

A simple exercise to do is to take a photo of your horses neck from the side, and trace over its outline. Can you see dips, bulges? Take your hand and stroke your horses neck gently with your eyes closed. Can you feel relaxation and suppleness? Is the muscle moving under your pressure, or remaining stagnant? Is your horse happy with this pressure, or do they move away from you?

I’d love to see your responses and hear how you get on! 🤍

Oh hail! Our first hail on a metal roof, let’s just say the horses were NOT fans! Everyone is alright. Thank you to Mother Nature for seeing our frightened horses and ending the loud concert as quickly as it started.
Our town is know for fireworks. Fireworks are tested through the year and the horses are use to the loud explosions from afar. Having the direct banging above their heads was quite different. I do wonder if the random firework explosions helped some? I do know that the calmness of us, whom they trust reassured them that this was just scary right now and it’s going to be okay. 💜 for the love of horses
