๐Ÿฟ What is popcorn?
Guinea pigs have their own unique signature dance called "popcorning." They run, bounce, flip in the air, land, and run the other way. As they do so, they make distinctive popping noises, much like the sound of popcorn bursting.

Is it worth getting a guinea pig? - https://guineapigsandy.com/all-about-guinea-pigs/general-info/is-it-worth-getting-a-guinea-pig/
What is the attraction of guinea pigs? In our opinion, it is one of the best pets for children โ€“ they are not aggressive and never bite. In case of extreme annoyance they can only bite you with their teeth. Animals become attached to humans and adore being petted. Pedigree animals are very beautiful. Pigs have a pronounced personality, and communicating with them is a great pleasure. These adorable creatures take up little space in the house and, unlike dogs, they do not need to be taken out for walks.
They eat relatively cheap plant food, and will usually eat grass in summer. They live quite long, up to 5-8 years, and even more. If you clean their cage or crate regularly, there is almost no smell. All this makes guinea pigs very promising animals to keep in apartments and childrenโ€™s nature corners. We can recommend getting guinea pigs for children of all ages.

Advantages

Takes up little space in the house
Complete lack of aggressiveness toward humans
Relatively long life span (5-8 years)
Good to tame
Interesting behavior
Purebreds are very beautiful
Daytime activity
Almost no smell

Disadvantages
Relatively high requirements for the care of long-haired pigs

High requirements for a balanced diet

As you can see, guinea pigs have many more advantages than disadvantages. Perhaps you will get a guinea pig?

Guinea pigs at home, pros and cons. - https://guineapigsandy.com/all-about-guinea-pigs/general-info/guinea-pigs-at-home-pros-and-cons/
A NOTE TO THE NOVICE PIG FARMER,

Or advice from experienced pig-breeders
So, on first superficial acquaintance with guinea pigs, you have the most favorable impression of these animals, you found them charming and decided that such a pet is quite suitable for you.
Before the long-awaited purchase is made, we suggest weighing up the pros and cons once again. The moment you get a new tenant in your house, you have a number of obligations to it.
IMPORTANT: A big part of your time and money is devoted to one more member of your family. According to a survey of participants in the community โ€œWorld of Guinea Pigsโ€ for the content of two guinea pigs spent between 300 and 3000 rubles per month. Such a difference in costs is due to the place of residence of owners, their adherence to more expensive / cheaper brands of products, as well as the fact that some owners of guinea pigs when calculating the cost did not include the cost of succulent food (vegetables, fruits, greens).
Getting a guinea pig: the pros and cons

Keeping a guinea pig as a pet has a number of advantages, but you may also encounter a number of difficulties, including illness of the animal.
Small โ€œbutsโ€:

Guinea pigs are non-aggressive (rarely, however, there are occasional biting specimens among guinea pigs), but that doesnโ€™t mean the animal will be immediately friendly and trusting. By nature, they are very shy, and for a long time the animal may be wary of you.
Guinea pig quickly learns to recognize its owner, many animals quickly become accustomed to and respond to further his name, but do not expect from the guinea pig obedience and comprehension, active โ€œplayโ€ with the child, the more so the implementation of any commands. Guinea pigs are not endowed with the intelligence of dogs or cats, and in many ways their behavior is rather primitive.
Guinea pigs are not trainable and they get used to go to the toilet all over the cage, not in a place strictly designated by the owner. Therefore, change the bedding in the cage regularly (at least once a week, but better twice) to avoid illness in the cage and strong odor in the room.
Many guinea pigs are very mobile, especially in childhood. Because of this, be prepared to have sawdust, hay, and droppings constantly scattered around your petsโ€™ cage. (The exception is the so-called โ€œterrariumโ€ cages with plastic walls instead of bars, which, by the way, are not suitable for guinea pigs.)
Guinea pig day mode, as a rule, coincides with a human, that is, it sleeps at night and is awake during the day. But it is possible that some animals will want to be awake at night. In addition, early in the morning the piggy may drink noisily from the hanging drinker. Therefore, if you are very sensitive to all kinds of noise, you should consider locating the cage away from family resting places.
Guinea pigs are very โ€œtalkativeโ€. They can be noisy and obtrusive at times, demanding your attention or asking for treats.
Guinea pigs also develop better and feel better if they can run free at least once a day around the room. Keep in mind, however:
That guinea pigs are rodents, and may chew on furniture and wires a bit near where they walk;

โ€“ Can get into places that are difficult for humans to reach;

โ€“ Can dirty carpets or floors with their โ€œwaste products

โ€“ Can get sick if thereโ€™s a source of cold air or drafts nearby.

IMPORTANT!
Some of your petsโ€™ behaviors may disappoint you.

Preview
Before you bring a new resident into your home, make sure he or she is provided with everything he or she needs to live. Prepare for him:
A spacious cage or terrarium for rodents (for the normal life of one or two pigs, it is advisable to buy a cage of at least 50x70cm).

Watering trough;
Bowl;
Grain specialized food;
Hay;
Sawdust and/or hygienic wood filler.

IMPORTANT!
Before you buy a guinea pig, prepare your cage, food and accessories.
Where to Buy a Guinea Pig?
You can buy a guinea pig from breeders or in a pet store.
To date, the preferred practice is to purchase animals directly from breeders. When buying guinea pigs in a pet store, especially in โ€œgeneralistโ€ pet store, the high probability of buying a sick, weakened animal, pregnant females is high. As a rule, the pet store has no information about the origin and pedigree of the animal.
As for breeders, they, in most cases, guinea pigs are provided with optimal care, which reduces the risk of disease and unwanted mating of young animals. If necessary, you can always get information about the parents of a young guinea pig.
In addition, most breeders are happy to keep in touch with people who have bought โ€œpigletsโ€ from them.

Which to choose โ€“ a boy or a girl?
It is not recommended to get a single pet. Guinea pigs are very sensitive to lack of companionship, and donโ€™t feel well alone. If you can care for one at a time, buying two wonโ€™t embarrass you, but it will give you the minimum living standard and unexpectedly great fun to watch them live together.
Buy animals of the same s*x and age. This way you will ensure that your pets have good company and exclude the possibility of unexpected offspring.
According to many guinea pig lovers, females get along better with each other. You can keep several animals in one cage. We must take into account that the guinea pig cage should be spacious enough.
With regard to keeping males together there is no consensus among guinea pig lovers so far. Most breeders and hobbyists note that two adult males find it difficult to get along together, competing with each other. Competition often leads to fights between males with some wounds and scratches to each other (up to the ears bursting). However, it is worth mentioning that intolerance and outbursts of aggression can often occur even in an exclusively female collective. Especially if the females have piglets. At the same time in practice it is not uncommon for male guinea pigs to peacefully neighbor.
The characters of guinea pigs are very diverse, so each situation is very individual. The only advice that can be given: Try to introduce the animals from a very young age. In this case, they have a better chance of getting along with each other.
IMPORTANT!
Guinea pigs do not tolerate loneliness. Keep a pair of same-s*x animals, preferably females.
Cages are now available with a partition in the middle, allowing both s*xes to mate actively and without conflicts or unwanted offspring.
Keeping mixed-s*x animals
If you keep a female and a male and are not planning to mate, put them in separate cages or get a large cage with a partition in the middle.

Breeding guinea pigs
If you do decide to breed your animals:
IMPORTANT: When planning mating, think about whether or not you will be able to โ€œplaceโ€ the cubs.
If the fate of future cubs is determined, the following must be taken into consideration:

No females should be mated if they are more than one year old and have had no offspring before that;
Females that are less than 5 months old must not be mated;
Guinea pig litters, as well as mongrels, are in less demand than purebreds. For this reason it is strongly recommended not to breed mongrels and mongrels with each other.
females should not be knit more than two or three times a year;
females should not be knit if they are more than three years old;
During or immediately after pregnancy, a female may die of toxaemia.

IMPORTANT: Never breed animals โ€œjust for funโ€. You risk the health of the female and encourage โ€œsubstandardโ€ offspring.
It is not uncommon for guinea pig lovers (especially beginners) to have a breeding frenzy: one offspring after another, often without a break. You must remember that you endanger the health of the breeding pig by doing so. No matter how beautiful the little piglets are, it is necessary to stop in time and think about the health of the mother pig and the fate of the animals she gives birth to.
In addition, the current trend among guinea pig lovers is to constantly change their pigs, associated with a change of interests and preferences (from one breed to another, etc.) Often the picture is that the novice amateur pig breeder gets a pig, then, after talking on a forum or visiting a guinea pig show, realizes that his pig is far from ideal. Then he gets another pig, then another, then anotherโ€ฆ
Then pig farmer comes to the conclusion that so many pigs he can not keep, and makes an attempt to get rid of half of his flock. However, at this stage, he is inevitably faced with the fact that wishing to buy his adult pigs are not so much โ€ฆ Therefore, any pig farmer is very important to stop in time to think about the fate of his animals.
VERY IMPORTANT!
Pig farmer should always remember that the pig is a small defenseless living creature, for the life and fate of which the owner is directly responsible!
If you have realized this, then you are the long-awaited owner โ€“ the dream of any guinea pig.

Guinea pigs - https://guineapigsandy.com/all-about-guinea-pigs/general-info/guinea-pigs/
According to scientists, guinea pigs as a species appeared about 35-40 million years ago. Indians of Central and South America began to domesticate the wild guinea pigs in the 9th-3rd millennium BC. The Incas sacrificed guinea pigs to the sun god. Today, in addition to being many peopleโ€™s favorite pets, guinea pigs are also of great benefit to science, being bred in the vivariums of research institutes and conducting various experiments on them.
Guinea pigs are pets that are completely unpretentious in terms of care and maintenance, very fond of people, attached to the owner and have a very funny appearance.
The guinea pig is easier to keep than a dog or a cat, and this animal brings no less aesthetic pleasure. The dog needs to be taken out for a walk regularly in all weathers; during walks, especially in the rain, it gets dirty and has to be washed in the bathtub. A cat, however, does not need walks, she is quite enough room, but she likes to sharpen her claws on the upholstered furniture and after a while makes it look untidy.
The guinea pig is another matter. It requires only a little attention and a little cage space, is unpretentious, food for it can always be bought, care is not much trouble and takes a little time every day. These animals are calmer than dogs and even cats and have many positive qualities, very valuable at home. Independent care for them may well be entrusted to children over 8-9 years, as guinea pigs belong, as a rule, to the good-natured, tame animals.
Contrary to its name, guinea pigs are usually very afraid of water, and have a very distant relationship with the usual pigs and piglets (although thatโ€™s what they call the small, newborn guinea pigs โ€“ piglets). In fact, the guinea pig is a rodent belonging to the mumps family (Caviidae), which includes animals of two different appearances: some look like guinea pigs, while others (mara) are longer-legged. There are 23 known species, all of which live in South America.
In their native land, guinea pigs are called aparea, aporea, and kui. They were first domesticated by the Inca Indians, who not only domesticated them as cute pets, but used them as food and for sacrifices. The Indians believed that the guinea pig attracts disease. To this day, large guinea pigs (weighing up to 2,500 g) are bred as meat animals in Peru, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador. The closest wild relative of our guinea pig is the Cavia cutleri, from the dry valleys of the Andes. These animals live in groups of 5 to 15 in burrows, they are very social animals, loneliness for them destructive, which is why experts insist on keeping guinea pigs together (at least two of the same s*x), and in some European countries forbidden the content of single pigs.

In nature, guinea pigs breed all year round. Pregnancy lasts about 65 days. The female gives birth to 1 to 4 cubs that she feeds with milk for about 3 weeks. Puberty is reached at the age of 2 months. Guinea pigs are about the same when it comes to breeding.
Guinea pigs are called โ€œguinea pigโ€ or โ€œcavyโ€ in English. โ€œGuinea pig because ships used to carry guinea pigs from Latin America across the Atlantic to Guinea, which is in Africa. It turns out that guinea pigs were brought to Europe by Guinean ships.
As guinea pigs belong to the most numerous order of mammals โ€“ the order of rodents โ€“ they have a very distinctive structure of dental system. On the upper and lower jaws there is one pair of incisors each, they are very large, devoid of roots and grow throughout the life of the animal. Their free end is chisel-sharp, the front wall is covered with a thick layer of very hard enamel, and the sides and back sides โ€“ with a thin layer, or have no enamel coating at all, as a result of which the incisors grind unevenly and always remain sharp. Due to this feature guinea pigs need something to chew on all the time, so in addition to food they put branches of fruit trees in their cage.
Thus, guinea pigs are cute and fairly easy to keep animals, and such a pet is safe to buy even children. According to our observations and feedback from breeders, guinea pig can safely buy a child from seven years. Three times a day to feed the pig and pour fresh water into the water bowl, as well as once every 5-7 days to clean the cage (albeit with partial adult help), children of this age are already able to do it themselves. But having your own pets that you take care of by yourself is a great way to form a sense of responsibility and duty, and develops independence in children.

Visit to the veterinarian - https://guineapigsandy.com/all-about-guinea-pigs/diseases/visit-to-the-veterinarian/

Guinea pigs are very patient patients, rarely making a squeak in response to pain. Since it is not always possible to determine how serious the disease is by the behavior of the animal, you should not postpone your visit to the veterinarian for a long time.
It is best to take your guinea pig to your vet in a sealed box or container. In the waiting room, do not take the animal out of the box or place it on your lap.

To help your veterinarian make a diagnosis, be prepared to answer the following questions:

Where did you get the animal, how long has it been with you?
How old is your guinea pig?
When were changes in animal behavior first noticed?
What do you feed your guinea pig?
Has the composition of the feed been changed recently?
Has the appearance of f***s and urine changed?
In what conditions is the animal kept?
Did the animal have contact with other pets?

Follow your veterinarianโ€™s advice exactly and give your guinea pig the medication as directed. In some cases, the treatment takes a long time, so be patient and your little patient will repay you with gratitude. For detailed care advice, see Caring for a Sick Guinea Pig.
