Calling all people with leaves! 🍁🍂

Come drop your leaves on the farm to help our garlic grow!

Every year, the last thing we plant is our garlic. In our climate Zone, we plant between Halloween and Thanksgiving, then the cloves get tucked in under a thick layer of mulch to keep them moist and warm through the winter.

And your leaves can help us create this mulch that will nourish our garlic for next year!

Drop your yard leaves on the farm so we can use to put the garlic to bed for the winter.
- Leave must be bagged
- Please only leaves and grass only
- Drop your bags ANYTIME in front of the red barn by the sign

Your trees can help create the delicious garlic you use in next years dishes - how amazing is that!?

Last Friday we had a small volunteer group come from Arc of Rockland to help us out at the farm!

An exceptional group of four adults with disabilities, along with their aide helped us collect and bundle flowers and branches to dry for our witches broom making station that will take place at Fall Festival (coming up October 26th 🍁).

This wonderful team is going to be visiting weekly and will help us out with all different projects.

They’re truly a delight to have on the farm!

Interested in volunteering with us? We have lots of opportunities for individuals, families, and businesses!

Imagine waking up this Saturday - the morning air is crisp but the sun is shining bright ☀️ You know it’s going to be a great day!

You slide into your comfy yoga clothes, and after a little cup of coffee you head over to the farm - with your friends or family. You can’t wait to laugh with the goofy animals all morning 😄

You make your way into the field - it’s the perfect temperature this morning - it’s not too hot or too cold, and everyone around you is smiling - already having a good time.

After 45 minutes of movement, breath, and hilarious moments with the goats and pigs you feel refreshed! This was a completely unique and fun way to spend a fall morning 🍁 and you know you’ll be chatting about this experience for a long time!

You head to market and use your 10% participant discount to snag some fresh produce grown right next to where you’re currently standing. And then you head on to your day feeling a little bit lighter and little more playful. ✨

This could be your story friend! 😄

Farm Update! 🍁

The Twilight Dinner was a big success last Friday! We’ll be sharing a recap of the event soon, but for now we want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who came, ate, danced, and enjoyed a beautiful night on the farm. It was so great to meet many of you, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event! ✨

The Twilight Dinner always marks the beginning of Fall. Maybe because we do it around the Fall Equinox, but on Monday driving to the farm there was a real change in the trees, colors turning, leaves falling. Time to get in the Autumn spirit. 🍃🍂

There are still some Cropsey-grown pumpkins available in the market. Other Fall-like things in the market this week include leeks (small, but lots of tender stem), escarole, and juicy cabbage. That all spells soup to me. 😊🍲

Farm Crew took out 1 caterpillar tunnel of cherry tomatoes, spread leaf mulch, and put down w**d barrier, then transplanted about 800 kale, chard, and collard plants.

These plants will last through the winter (fingers crossed) and get harvested for our school visits and for the Closter Farm Market. Go team! 🙌🏻

Volunteering = Exceptional Community Memories

Over the years we’ve been lucky to have had hundreds of volunteers come into the farm and put forth efforts in our farm projects.

Parents come with their kids to teach them the benefits and fun that can come with hard work.

Friends will come with other friends to have a fulfilling day helping out and being in nature.

And many companies will come with their employees for team building and a day in the fresh air. For example NotaryLive, an online notary company, has showed up for us again and again to support us in our seasonal efforts.

Whether the projects are building new structures, w**ding, or general farm help - we have community members who are always up for the challenge.

This past Saturday’s volunteer day was one for the books and was a perfect example! We may have only had around 7 people show up, but WOW, did they put in work.

Despite the torrential downpour that we were blessed with mid-afternoon, our volunteers persisted. It was so amazing to see that our community was still willing to show up and continue to help us even through all the rain.

The best part was how much fun they were having! There was nothing but smiling faces and everyone talk about how much fun they were having.  It was an great reminder that it’s ok to play in the rain sometimes!

We know how lucky we are to have such incredible people in our community, helping us to continue our legacy and impact in Rockland.

And at the same time, we feel incredibly lucky to provide a healthy, ecological space for community members to create joyful, fulfilling memories of their own.

If you’re also someone who believes in our mission and wants to help us to continue making memories, we invite you to support our legacy and join us at our annual Twilight Dinner next Friday 9/20 from 5-9pm.

It will be a beautiful evening celebrating the farm and our future legacy in Rockland.

The amount of love shown to us by our community is pretty impressive - thank you to all of you 💚

Drum roll pleaseeeeeee! 🥁🥁🥁🥁

Pumpkins are here just in time for Fall Decoration Season! 🎃

We grew some fun varieties this year like bumpy Grizzly Bear and yellow Sunlight ☀️

Harvest was reduced because of the woodchucks, but we still have a few hundred pounds that didn’t get eaten. 😋

And on the edible side, beans continue to pour in, and the arugula is looking great! ☀️

Tomatoes are slowing down and we’ve starting pulling some plants to make room for fall crops.

Winter Squash is out, too! Lots of delicious Butternut and Black Futsu.

Black Futsu (last slide) is a Japanese heirloom squash that’s super sweet. The skin is also edible so no peeling needed, and contrary to the name, they ripen from black to creamy beige. We hope you try it out and let us know what you think!
