We saved the best for last in our ‘Tis the Season for Gratitude series - our amazing, supportive, kind, big-hearted, incredibly hard-working Executive Director Sue!

“It’s so hard to say right now what I’m grateful for because it’s everything.

I found my true passion in life by building communities through agriculture and education.

I found people to work and enhance the mission that I envision, and who I’ve taken on as my family.

I’m grateful for every person who has come to experience the farm and seen the beauty and awe that it has given me. The look on their faces and watching their souls heal is my favorite part.

I’m grateful to finally give soul back to the land that the Cropsey’s once had, and I’m so grateful for the Cropsey family trusting in me and cheering me on to do exactly what they wanted with it.

I’m grateful for all of my animals. My favorite is that when they see me or hear my voice they always come running, not just because I feed them but because they love me and I love them.

I’m a grateful to watch kids, young adults and adults learn about the land, food and find peace with getting their hands dirty.

I’m grateful to have an inclusive environment of employees who fight hard to be human first.

It’s so hard to get the words together on how much this place has meant to me.”

Sue, we are ENDLESSLY grateful for you, and for the opportunities, the experiences, and all the memories you’ve created for all of us staff members and all of the community over the years. You are a gift to Rockland, and we’re so lucky to have you as our leader!

And with that friends, we end our ‘Tis the Season for Gratitude series!

Once again we’d love to hear from you - what are you grateful for about the farm? What have been your favorite memories with us?

Let us know in the comments below!

It’s Holiday Market day and the last day of our ‘Tis the Season for Gratitude series!

Our second to last in this series is someone you probably interact with often if you come to the market - it’s our incredible Market Manager Bailey!

“I am grateful for the opportunity to work outdoors, see the progression of time through our crops, and learn more about organic fruit and vegetable agriculture. It has been such a wonderful experience working with the farm crew, office staff, and managing the market.

In the market this year, I’m proud to have encouraged so many new community members to come onto the farm, try new veggies, and hang out with our animals.

One of my favorite memories this year was when we ran around with little bug nets trying to catch cabbage moths. It also surprisingly worked…Thank you to all my amazing co-workers for making what Cropsey Community Farm is today. It was such a wonderful first season on the farm and it wouldn’t have been the same without all of you!”

Your smile lights up every space you’re in Bailey - the farm would not be the same without you!

Come hang out with Bailey, and the whole farm staff today at the Holiday Market!

We’re open 11am-3pm and we can’t wait to celebrate the season with you!

See you at the farm! ❄️

‘Tis the Season for Gratitude - Ailene edition!

We are so lucky to have Ailene as our Farm Educator and Children’s Garden Manager

“I am most grateful for the land and for the people I work with. It may sound cliche but if you have been here then you’ve felt it too. The Cropsey Community Farm is a magical place - with its rich history and soul combined with the energy of our Farm Team ✨

Our team is collaborative and supportive. Even though we come from diverse backgrounds each person brings their unique personality and skill set to work together to make our visions reality. Everyone is willing to chip in and lend a hand, with encouragement, solutions, kindness, humor, and positivity.

What I’m most proud of personally this 2024 season is the Children’s Garden. Each year the garden is different than the last, not only the plants grown but the elements within. This year we had exciting additions in our sensory/play areas, we grew new varieties of plants, and had a new section of land in cultivation. The space hosted elementary school groups, high school art students, high school interns, volunteers, homeschool groups, Girl Scout troops, and Junior Farmer campers. I love watching the kids experience the garden space by working together,  problem solving, connecting where food comes from, engaging in imaginative play, and connecting with nature and their environment.

There have been so many great memories from this season it’s hard to choose just one. That said what I’ll remember most is the feeling I had sitting with the farm team, my , at the Twilight Dinner. The positive vibes at our table were palpable. The stories shared, the laughter, and truly enjoying one another’s company ❤️”

Ailene, we are so grateful for you and the joy you bring to everything you touch! Your smile and positivity and kindness are palpable by everyone. Thank you for being you!

Happy Thanksgiving friends! We’re excited to be back with more of our ‘Tis the Season for Gratitude campaign, where all of us share a little of what we’re grateful for here at the farm, along with a what we’re proud to have been able to create for you - our amazing and wonderful community who we’re so grateful for!

Next up is Marisa, our incredible Farm Crew and Flower Program Lead!

“I’m having a hard time putting into words just how much the farm means to me. I am so grateful for it all: this beautiful land, the meaningful, soul-filling, tough hard work, the people and organizations in our community who continue to support and show up for us, and the farm team I will forever consider family.

Starting at the farm three years ago with a whole new team, I am so proud of how far we have come. Our team has more than doubled in size as we have only continued to grow our outreach. It’s pretty amazing that every person who joins is just the perfect piece to our wild puzzle. These beautiful people have been my rock both in and out of the workplace, and I hope we never stop pursuing our goals while laughing our butts off though all the good and not so good and frolicking through the beautiful weeds together (I mean... sunflowers).

Thank you to my team and thank you to our community! Forever grateful.”

We love you and are so grateful for you Marisa!! 🌼🌸🌻

‘Tis the Season for Gratitude with Kathy & Maryn, our masterful and magnificent Co-Directors of Education 💚

From Kathy:

“I feel grateful for the outstanding team at Cropsey Farm, where teamwork and support are deeply ingrained. The entire farm staff is always willing to lend a helping hand. I appreciate the chance to continuously learn and expand my skill set. It’s a privilege to work with so many talented students and educators from multiple school districts, as well as our farm educators.

Seeing the excitement on each student’s face as they arrive at the farm is a joy. They’re excited to engage in interactive learning experiences that integrate agriculture with the NY State Science Standards. Observing students interact, participate actively in our planned lessons, and forge meaningful connections is genuinely inspiring.”

From Maryn:

“I’m grateful that I’m part of an organization that helps community today and impacts the future of the thousands of children we have reached. Our team is full of people who are willing to work hard, listen to feedback, learn from each other and grow together. I’m grateful every morning as the students excitedly hop off the busses and run up the hill to greet us, knowing the importance of the work we are doing. The farm staff has become a family and the farm has become a second home for my children and many children in the community.

I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve built in the community and the start of a movement toward teaching kids sustainable agriculture. Instead of picking up a screen, the junior farmers get their hands dirty and enjoy a sensory experience on the farm. We’ve created lessons, mentored teachers and allowed all children to feel successful. Sparking children’s curiosity and providing them with knowledge while building confidence in their abilities… it’s truly incredible to see. I’m so proud of the curriculum that we have written that engages students of all abilities and challenges them to continue to think outside the box.”

Your work and hearts will have a ripple effect well into the future - we’re so grateful for you Kathy & Maryn! 💚

‘Tis the Season for Gratitude from our two favorite brothers on the farm!

Jonah & Noah may actually be our only two brothers on the farm 😆 but we love them through and through for their big hearts, hilarious personalities, and dedication ⭐

From Jonah
”I am grateful for always feeling welcomed at work and having a great group of coworkers that make any chore enjoyable. I’m very proud to be able to help with everything from bringing in harvested produce for market to maintaining our equipment. My favorite memory on the farm is the Twilight Dinner from this year when we could all get together on the farm and enjoy the hard work we’ve all put into the farm”

From Noah
“I am grateful for the people who I get to work with everyday.  I have learned so much about agriculture I really appreciate a work environment that allows me to learn along the way.

My favorite memory was the time Marissa and I were frolicking in the sunflower field.”

You two make us laugh every day! We’re so grateful for you both, and couldn’t imagine this farm without you! ⭐

‘Tis the Season for Gratitude - and this time hosted by me! The woman behind the social media curtain, Hollis 👋🏻😄

I started at the farm after I moved to the neighborhood around 2 years ago. Just after moving in, I had gone on a walk and stumbled upon the Holiday Market and was immediately THRILLED to be mere steps away from a real working farm! I sent my husband a video message of the event saying - look at what we have so close to us!!

My work with the farm began as volunteering with the animals, and quickly feel in love with the goats - and then the pigs when we acquired the pigs, and then the turkeys, and the silly chickens and roosters, and ducks, and cats, and bunny! My shift with the animals every week was one of my favorite weekly routines, and getting to know the other volunteers helped me feel a part of my brand new community.

I only recently became the social media manager a few months ago, and since then, becoming more involved with the staff, the events, and all the workings of this magical place, I’ve come to feel deeply grateful for a group that gives so much back to it’s community. I’m just so happy to showcase the hard work of the staff of the farm - everyone is so exceptional, with enormous hearts, and it shows in everything they do.

We are incredibly lucky, all of us here in Rockland, to have this farm and the folks who run it right in our backyard. A place that offers sustainable and organic produce, exceptional community events for all ages, nature-based education for kids, opportunities to uplift and showcase local businesses, and SO much more!

I’m so grateful for everyone on this team, and for all the folks who’ve supported our mission. Forever grateful for Cropsey Community Farm and the mark it’s made on our little part of the world 💚

‘Tis the Season for Gratitude is striking again, and this time with the one, the only, Sophie! Our lead farmer and magic maker of the Cropsey farmland! 🌿

“Grateful for the team of people that come together on this land every day to grow food and teach the community the importance of preserving agriculture in Rockland. We’ve built a workplace culture of our dreams, one that centers human-ness and compassion, and it works.

I’m proud of the steps the farm crew took to create systems and procedures that will last and make even more growth possible, and for keeping positive attitudes through all the challenges of a production farm stressed by climate change. We have a blast figuring it out! Thank you, crew!”

Sophie, you are hands that gift so much of what this farm has to offer with our community. It’s with your grace, intelligence and humor that this farmland has become such a success.

We are so grateful for you!

As we’re getting closer to the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to ask you:

‘Tis the Season for Gratitude is back again! ⭐️

In case you missed it, all this week and next we’re sharing messages of gratitude from all the employees at the farm, in honor of this season, and because we are so truly grateful to be able to serve this community.💚

Next up is Rachel, our Event Coordinator extraordinaire! ⭐

“I am grateful for the amazing people I work with who support one another, and cheer on every event. They are kind and fun and helpful, and great collaborators and friends. Whenever I come to work or the table I feel welcome and appreciated.

I am thankful for a boss who is smart and kind and fun and flexible, and understands that your employees will go the extra 100 miles for someone who makes them feel valued. I am also grateful for the animals, and the land which feels like such a very special place to be.

I am most proud of introducing so many people to the farm and creating meaningful connections by producing fun and educational events that have all sold out. I am also proud of the wonderful response from attendees and staff for these events.

Each and every event has brought me so many special memories because of the people I met and spent time with, and the connections we all made and shared during that time.”

Rachel we are so grateful for you and all the energy and ambition and fun you’ve brought to the farm! I think all of us can easily say that this events have been exceptional with you at the helm, and truly so many amazing connections have been made ⭐

Stay tuned for more moments of gratitude from all of us, in honor of how grateful we are for all of you!

‘Tis the Season for Gratitude! ✨

In honor of next week’s holiday, we’re putting together a series a posts from each of the employees at the farm, with each of us sharing not just what we do here.

We’re kicking off this series with Maria, our Farm Educator and Volunteer Coordinator ⭐

“I think what I am most grateful for at the farm is the family that I found.

Even my children found best friends amongst the children of my colleagues. There is something magical about this place that drew each of us to our roles here. I have never experienced such an incredible work environment prior to my time here, and I think I speak for all of us when I say that we wouldn’t trade the work we do for the world.

There is something to be said about the camaraderie amongst our staff. Even though we all come from different places and backgrounds, we all share the same passion of knowing we’re a part of something a lot larger than ourselves. I think that finding likeminded individuals who share the same passion and enthusiasm for the land that I do, is something to be very grateful for.

There are so many incredible stories and memories from working the 2024 season at Cropsey Farm, it is so difficult to pinpoint which one is my favorite! Although, there is one special moment in particular that comes to mind when I think about all of the joy spread throughout the season.

During our Junior Farmer’s summer camp, our entire staff (farmers included) competed in a gigantic tug-of-war match against 60 campers (ages 5-12) and we were confident that they were no match for us. Well, we were quite mistaken!! Those kids destroyed us in a very intense match that ended with all of us getting dragged across a very slippery tarp, straight across our upper field. I don’t think I have ever laughed so hard!” 😂

Maria, we are so grateful for you, and we definitely agree - there is something magical about this farm…. along with the strength of our campers! 😄

Stay tuned for more moments of gratitude from all of us!
We love being your farmers! ⭐
