Puppy Preschool also has spots available starting May 21st at 6:30pm!! This class is for puppies under 4 months of age and is extra special because off leash play time happens! This class is so important for developing puppies! It focuses on their socialization window which sets up the ground work for how they feel about things in their environment as they grow including other dogs and humans. Our goal is to help your puppy turn into a well balanced adult dog in your family! The class resumes May 21st at 6:30pm and includes 6 weeks of classes, 1 hour each week. Cost is $110. Odin is a recent graduate of our Puppy Preschool class! He holds a special place in our hearts at OVC as he was a bottle fed baby with some of our staff before being adopted by a wonderful family. Odin excelled in pupy preschool with socializing wonderfully with every puppy he met and was just as eager to say hi to their humans. Great job Odin, we loved having you!

Meet Holly!
Holly is a recent addition to our OVC family and is hoping to find some friends to join her for Puppy Preschool! She’s ready to play and learn.

Class Details:

-Starts February 13th at 6:30pm. Goes for 6 weeks, 1 hour each week.

- Puppy only class, should start prior to 16 weeks of age.

-Focuses on socialization (off lead play time included), desensitization, dealing with puppy behaviors and beginning basic obedience.

-Cost is $110 for the complete 6 week course.

Please note that vaccines (including kennel cough) are required to be up to date to participate in class.

What is Puppy Preschool?

Puppy Preschool is our puppy class for puppies under 4 months of age that includes off lead play time and socialization!

What else will you learn?
-canine body language
-puppy raising information such as house training, mouthing, etc.
-desensitization training for grooming and handling
-how to introduce and socialize your puppy to new people and things in their environment
-basic obedience commands

Did you know that we also offer private training sessions? Currently these sessions are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays with our CCPDT certified trainer during appointment times. These sessions are great for working on specific behavioral concerns or working on basic obedience in a less distracted environment than training class. Where: Oceana Veterinary Clinic
How Long : Classes are 1 hour each week and include 6 weeks of classes.
What's the difference in the classes:
Puppy Preschool- for puppies under 16 weeks of age. Focuses on socialization and desensitization as well as the start of obedience training.
Basic Obedience- for dogs or puppies over 4 months of age. Focuses on working around dogs and distractions while teaching commands such as heel, halt, sit, down, stay, leave it and attention.

It's finally spring! Which means we will be starting up our group training classes.

Classes are lead by one of our licensed veterinary technicians with a certification in dog training (CPDT-KA). We offer basic dog obedience and puppy preschool classes.

Basic dog obedience classes are for dogs and puppies over 4 months of age and puppy preschool is for puppies under 4 months of age. Both classes run for 6 weeks, 1 hour each week and the cost is $100. Proof of DHLPP, Rabies and Kennel Cough vaccines are required.

Mitzy shows off her “leave it” command in our Basic Obedience class. She thought about coming and saying hi to the trainer but immediately responded to her owner when asked to leave the distraction and follow her instead. Classes start July 10, 2018. Call our clinic to sign up! (231) 861-8196.

We have another round of Puppy Socialization and Basic Obedience classes starting on April 24, 2018. Socialization is very important for young puppies so they become well adjusted and accepting of other dogs, experiences, people and handling. Obedience class will help your dog learn impulse control and basic commands and other obedience skills. It will also help strengthen your bond with your dog and help them feel more comfortable around other people and dogs.

A year of Puppy Socialization class has passed! Thank you to all the wonderful owners and puppies for making our first year wonderful!

A year ago today we started our first training classes. The experience has been wonderful and we have had the privilege of working with so many wonderful people and dogs. Thank you for making our first year a success!
