Filling out an application on our website BEFORE arriving can help speed up the adoption process. Some of our animals are living in foster homes but are available for adoption. These pets will have this indicated in their description and need an appointment to be seen. Please keep in mind that NFSAW is a small shelter with limited staff so we may ask you to wait outside or in your car until a staff member or volunteer is free to introduce you to our animals.

🌟 December Pet Care Tips 🌟

As winter settles in, here are some essential tips to keep your furry friends happy and healthy:

🐾 Stay Warm: Make sure pets have cozy spaces indoors away from drafts. Outdoor animals need insulated shelters to stay safe from the cold.

🐾 Protect Those Paws: Snow, ice, and salt can irritate paw pads. Wipe your pet’s paws after outdoor walks and consider pet-safe booties.

🐾 Keep Them Active: Cold weather doesn’t mean skipping exercise! Short indoor play sessions or brisk walks keep pets fit and entertained.

🐾 Mind Holiday Hazards: Decorations, rich foods, and certain plants (like poinsettias and mistletoe) can be harmful to pets. Keep these out of reach.

🐾 Hydration Matters: Dry winter air can dehydrate pets. Ensure fresh water is always available.

🐾 Check Their Coat: Grooming is key even in winter—tangled fur doesn’t insulate as well, and short-haired breeds may need sweaters for extra warmth.

🎃 Meet Jack o’ Lantern 🎃 Jack o’ Lantern is a sweet but sick cat that we recently took in from the same group that brought us the mom and six kittens. Like the others, Jack has been struggling with health issues, and our team is working hard to get him the care he needs. We are also collaborating with the colony caretakers to capture and treat all the remaining cats to ensure they get medical attention and a chance at a better life. Jack is on the road to recovery, but it’s a long journey for him and the rest of the colony.
