The end of an Era. When Dr. John Hurtgen started his practice in the mid 1980s he had no idea what would happen. He figured he'd try it for a bit and then probably go back to academia where he had been previously. Little did he know that Nandi Veterinary Associates would grow to become synonymous with reproductive excellence. Under his guidance, it grew and had a positive impact on many horses and breeders. His associates gained knowledge from him and went on and did many things - practice owners, well respected professors. Some us came and left several times. I can't thank him enough for the great influence he had on me to continue to develope my love of equine reproduction and to continue to gain knowledge however possible. I dreaded telling him I was going to leave to take a residency position and try to become board certified. He was genuinely happy for me and strongly encouraged me to go and to come back if I wanted when I completed the residency. I came back and left again when another great opportunity was presented to me to join another one of my mentors, Dr. Michelle LeBlanc at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. He again was extremely supportive and encouraging. When he tragically passed away in 2010, it presented another opportunity to me. I became a practice owner, tried to be a businessman and got to do what I loved - equine reproduction. This October I left again to rejoin Rood and Riddle. The Theriogenology section there is on the cutting edge of things and I believe this position will allow me to grow as a reproductive veterinarian. Today, the farm was sold as was the last of our equipment and supplies. Thank you to all the clients that have supported this practice since it's inception. Thank you to all the horses I've worked on that have helped me grow as a veterinarian. Thanks to Linda, Claire and Maureen Hurtgen for allowing me to buy the practice and keep it going and thank you for being understanding when I told you were moving back to Kentucky. Thank you Dr. Hurtgen, I hope I've made you proud by what we did at Nandi and I hope to make you proud by what we do in Lexington. One chapter ends and another begins.....

Tomorrow is the big day. An end of an Era. Auction of personal property (Dump wagons, horse trailer, hay feeders, barn supplies, office equipment, skid steer, 2006 Chevy pickup, 2007 Honda Ridgeline, 2006 Honda Civic, etc) begins at 10am. Auction of the farm property at Noon. If you missed our barn sale, we still have some goodies to go.
