THE CITY OF NEW HAMPTON NEEDS YOUR ASSISTANCE!



The EPA recently revised the Lead-Copper Rule and is requiring citywide inventories across the country to be completed for lead service lines by October 16th, 2024. A water service line is the connection between the water distribution pipe (water main in the street or right-of-way) and the water meter in your home or business. If lead service lines are discovered, you may be eligible to receive funding to have those lines replaced.



This is mandatory for the City of New Hampton to complete. As of to-date, only 728 properties out of 1,679 (43.35%) have completed the survey. Please go to the link below, scan the QR Code, or go to the City of New Hampton’s website and complete the short survey. Failure to submit will result in a fine and City Staff having to enter your structure at a later date to verify. Please fill out a separate survey for each property you own within the City of New Hampton. There are hard copies of the survey, available for pick-up at City Hall if you don’t have the electronic means to complete. All surveys within the City shall be returned or completed by no later than June 1st, 2024, in order for staff to get all information entered and submitted to the DNR and EPA.

States where the dog respiratory illness found thus far: Oregon has reported some 200 cases, and there have been an unknown number of cases in California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.

We’ve had a few questions about the new canine respiratory disease this week. As of today, this is what we know:

🐾 Dogs around the country have been affected by a mild to moderately-severe respiratory infection that can last 6-8 weeks.

🐾 Some dogs can develop more severe disease, including pneumonia. A few dogs who develop pneumonia have succumbed to their infection.

🐾 We have seen one case that we believe may be related to this new issue. This was several weeks ago, and we do not believe any other dogs were affected at that time.

🐾 It’s cold and flu season for dogs as well as for humans. Every fall/winter, we see an uptick in Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC), commonly known as “kennel cough”.

What can you do to protect your dog?

🐾 Avoid areas crowded with dogs or groups of dogs. Consider having a petsitter this holiday season instead of the usual dog boarding facility, or ask your boarding facility what they are doing to prevent spread of any respiratory illness. Ask the same of your grooming facility.

🐾 Discuss whether vaccination for Bordetella and influenza are appropriate for your dog with your veterinarian.

If your dog develops a cough, first, DON’T PANIC.

🐾 Keep your dog at home and limit interaction with other dogs.

🐾 Call your veterinarian to discuss whether he or she should have an exam, or what supportive measures can be started.

🐾 Call your veterinarian if the cough lasts more than 3-4 days, if your pet develops a fever (re**al temp >102.5*), or if he or she is not eating.

Our agility course at Freedom Run Dog Park will become a reality this spring! A huge shout out and THANK YOU to Eddie Arnold (pointman) and Kahn Tile Supply LLC for donating 2 tunnels for the park. One for the small dogs and one for the md to lg size dogs.
Also a huge shout out Damion Spratt and his industrial education students for making some of the course as well. Some great students who are "on this task". Cannot wait to see what we have at the park for spring!

Shout out to Marty Larsen who goes out (limited to his right arm) and puts 5 gallons 2 and sometimes 3 times a day to water our newly planted trees! They look great!
