Fun Fact Friday: Collecting Eggs in the Winter

Unless you collected your eggs multiple times a day these last few days, you likely had some frozen eggs. This is a great article from our friends at talking about collecting eggs in the winter time!

Winter is a natural time for some older hens to slow or cease egg production. However, if your hens are still blessing you with beautiful fresh eggs this winter, you may wonder if there are any special storage or safety tips to consider when collecting and storing eggs during cold weather. Today, we...

Fun Fact Friday: Squirrels

We have some customers who love squirrels and some that want to deter them from their yards. These furry creatures are quite smart and agile.

1. Squirrels have four front teeth that grow continuously throughout their lives. They grow about six inches (15 cm) per year. This helps their incisors endure the seemingly incessant gnawing, otherwise they'd quickly run out of teeth.

2. A group of squirrels is called a "scurry" or "dray."

3. Tree squirrels are known to dig fake holes to fool onlookers and throw off thieves. This is called “deceptive caching."

4. Squirrels Help Grow Trees... just not on purpose.
When a squirrel buries a nut, it loses some to theft and it retrieves most but sometimes some get missed which helps more trees to grow!

Join us next Tuesday, January 21st for Squirrel Appreciation Day! We will have great deals for both those who love squirrels and those who would love to deter them!
