Meet Elizabeth, a 1ish piggie. Her previous owner literally was planning on feeding her to their python because she was "just another animal they had to feed." She was rescued by a member in this group and brought to the rescue.

When she got her tonight, she was TERRIFIED! Impossible to catch and frozen in fear to be held.

Enter Karissa! My 9 year old junior volunteer and my "assistant" who specializes in socializing the really scared piggies.

This was Elizabeth in 10 minutes of being held. In a few days, Elizabeth is going to make someone a wonderful friend.

Thank you Matt, Tera and Karissa.

IT'S IN!! Wheek Care is so GRATEFUL to all those who donated towards the repair costs of a new air conditioner. This ensures that the piggies will be safe during the upcoming hot summer.

And we want to give a huge shout out to Brian Reese and his helper, Doug, for fitting us in his schedule so quickly.

THANK YOU everyone for your support.

PLEASE READ:

Hi everyone! Usually, we don't permit rehoming posts in this group, but today we've made an exception for Carly Marie of Atlantic Critters Rescue. This post is an article and some ugly pictures of an UGLY and HORRIBLE situation that some UGLY, HORRIBLE AND ABHORRENT human created for 201 guinea pigs. Sadly, 4 didn't make it, but 197 are now being evaluated and looking for foster homes and permanent homes.

The piggies are currently at South Regional Animal Shelter, Bridgeton, NJ, and being helped by Atlantic Critter Rescue.

An undertaking of this magnitude is emotionally and financially draining.

Anyone interested in giving a financial donation may do so by: Venmo: Atlantic_critters_rescue; PayPal: [email protected].

If you are interested in fostering or adopting, please post on Carley's thread and she will get in touch with you.

Remember, it takes a community to help these little ones. Please consider helping. No amount is too small.

Carley Marie's post is as follows:

URGENT! South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter is in crisis, 200 guinea pigs were removed from a hoarding situation in Bridgeton NJ. All females are pregnant and the guinea pigs are filthy and in bad shape. We will help but we need to secure funds, adopters, and fosters.

Please message us if you can foster or adopt, or consider donating to help this dire situation. Sharing this post to spread the word is just as helpful.

UPDATE 2: the Montgomery County piggies are at the rescue. HUGE THANKS to Dave, Kristy and Camden for the transportation and great overnight care for them. Oreo definitely has a nasty URI, but is stable and receiving around the click care.

Thank you to everyone who offered to help. We have such a wonderful, caring community here. Continued prayers for our sick little guy would be appreciated.

UPDATE: we have transportation. Thank you everyone who offered.

The Montgomery County SPCA, Abington, is asking for Wheek Care's help in an abuse case that has finally ended for 11 piggies. We are able to give these piggies a place to land, but we need to transport them from Anington, PA to New Kensington. If there's anyone able to help transport, the days are flexible. We just want to get these babies started on their new life's journey.

Happy New Year everyone. It's my prayer that 2024 brings a better, gentler world that is kinder to humans and our fur babies.

Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue is so grateful for the love and support everyone has shown us. Your generosity in these hard and troubling times has enabled us to keep our doors open and to help as many fur babies as we have room for.

In 2022 we had 608 surrenders, and while I don't have all of 2023's statistics, we had 405 surrenders. The number is down drastically, but it's only because adoptions have been extremely slow, which means we haven't had available cages to bring in piggies in need.

I pray that in 2024 our adoptions pick up so that we can help more piggies in need. Every fur baby is important!!

UPDATE: They have been rescued.

Is there anyone on here in Butler that is on Butler, Pa lost and found?

Someone found 3 pigs abandoned and they are in a dog crate with no hay or water (in the picture, anyway). I need to get in touch with this person (Mr. John Bickel). If i can find someone to take them for tonight, I can take them tomorrow.

RECIPENT HELP:

In rescue, it takes a village to keep a rescue running smoothly. It takes dedicated volunteers who are always there, regardless of the time and how tired we are. But when one of those volunteers needs help, Wheek Care Guinea Pig Rescue believes it's our responsibility to step up and try to help the helper, not just the animals, of Wheek Care. For privacy reasons, we will not name the recipient. This recipient has not asked us for help. It's not their "style" to ask for help, but this person is always the very first to offer help, and we want to pay it forward and help them.

A brief history is this person works in retail, working with animals. They go out of their way to help all animals. During the coarse of their job, this person sustained several bodily injuries, including a severe head injury. They now require surgery to fix an old head surgery that was done a decade ago.

This invasive and life threatening surgery may require as long as 6 months of multiple surgeries and possibly a longer recuperation.

We, as a community that considers our volunteers as part of the family, are asking for help for this family.

We are asking for gift cards in any amount, for local or online purchases. Some suggestions would be Amazon, Giant Eagle, Community Market, Aldi, Sam's Club, Walmart, Target, and even Petco and Petsmart to help support their fur babies.

Any donations can be mailed to Wheek Care at 429 Esther Avenue, New Kensington, PA 15068, or emailed digitally to [email protected]. Monetary donations can be sent via PayPal at [email protected] or Venmo at [email protected] and please mark it as RECIPENT. We will make sure that they receive every donation.

If there are any questions or other suggestions, please feel free to let us know.
