A couple of weeks ago we had some very special visitors! We finally got to meet the amazing group of kids with the local Headstart program. They often stop by our windows to admire the cats. The children helped us feed cats and were able to love on some of them….which of course the cats were all about!

Meet Glo Worm 🐛 and her adopted baby ☁️ Cloudy! This adorable duo is currently at The Black Cat Market awaiting their forever home. Glo Worm is not “technically” Cloudy’s mama but they absolutely love each other! Glo Worm is smitten with this particular kitten and Cloudy just really puts the “glow” in Glo Worm who was SO very shy at Frankie’s. Soooo we are looking for someone to adopt them together. Purrhaps that someone is you?

A fire in a planter caused minor damage to the exterior of a cat rescue in downtown New Kensington Sunday. The fire at Frankie’s Friends in the 700 block of Fifth Avenue was reported around 5:20 p.m., a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher said. According to fire Chief Ed Saliba Jr.,

Some of you may have heard by now that Frankie’s was on fire. An outdoor pot was on fire and what could have ended so tragically, thankfully was resolved quickly by the quick action of others! A huge thank you to our neighbor, Tido for noticing something suspicious and then seeing the flames and smoke. He rushed to put out the fire with his own fire extinguisher. The Frankie’s team was still rushing to arrive on the scene. Another huge thank you to the City of New Kensington Fire Dept ( trucks 1, 2 and 5), EMS and the New Kensington police officers that all arrived on scene. While our hearts are still very much racing we feel relief seeing the fast response! The cats are all safe and we are all safe so an Easter Miracle it is! If you would like to help

Meet Gelato! Gelato is just one of the cats that became a Frankie’s cat this week.
While these pictures are absolutely horrific, we look forward to the day we can show you her “after” pictures! Humane officer Chris rescued this sweet girl and reached out to us. We immediately agreed to take her of course. This is the sad reality of neglect. It’s also the sad reality of what our job entails…it is not for the weak at heart and there are tears, exhaustion, frustration, anger….but there are also victories, there is healing, there is love and there is knowing that while we can’t save them all…even just one poor soul like Gelato getting the help she so desperately needed quite simply, makes it all worth it. Gelato like many others in our care, has a VERY long road ahead of her but we are bound and determined through blood, sweat and tears to get this girl her happily ever after. We ABSOLUTELY could NOT do this without your donations. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you all for your generosity and support that allows us to say YES to cats like Gelato. Together we truly can and do make a difference ❤️

Reminder

Easter is right around the corner! Easter lillies are extremely toxic to cats…even the smallest amount of their pollen can be deadly! Please also use caution with plastic Easter grass. Cats often like to chew on it and if swallowed it can get tangled and cause an obstruction. It’s best to use a piece of fabric as a basket liner or even paper grass.

We wanted to take a moment and thank everyone for the amazing concert benefit that was held for us! Shout out to Winona Chavis for putting this all together for us, for Preserving Underground for hosting and to the amazing bands, The Strychniners, MGF, Desolence and The Apotrope,that made this possible! For national Pet day we were invited to the Science Center and we had an absolute blast! We were able to share what we are all about and why we do what we do! We brought some cats and made new friends ❤️
