Introducing…What’s New Wednesday! Where we will be featuring something fun, exciting, unique or just plain pawsitive going on at the shelter.
This week please enjoy this video that shows our “volunteer office” where we let our work from home volunteers get their work done with a furry coworker! The cozy office lets our dogs feel like part of someone’s life and have a break from the shelter.
Featured in the video are our very own Mia, Rousey, Calliope, Oreo and Heinz. All available for adoption with the exception of Heinz and Calliope who went home today! Look for them on our adoptable dog list!

We can’t believe this polydactyl princess has yet to be snapped up! Meet Candace! The first thing people notice about her (besides her friendly and social personality) is her paws. Candace has extra toes, and she looks like she could give you a thumbs-up. We give her two thumbs-up! Candance is outgoing and affectionate. She's a really great cat who will come running over to you for attention. In fact, she wants you to know she likes you and will follow you around or wait right beside you if you're petting another cat. She's young, estimated at around 2 years old, and she enjoys playing. Her favorite toys are ones that she can bat around the room. Candace does well in the cat room. She can be assertive with other cats at first, but she is not aggressive. She just needs to find her place within the cat dynamics, and once she adjusts, she is calm and even motherly towards them. Zuko, the black and white kitten pictured with her, has taken a particular shine towards her and follows her around. She'd be great with kids, and we see potential for her to get along with dogs pending a proper, slow introduction. If you're looking for a friendly, loving cat then check out Candace! “Feel Good Fridays are back and this week we’d like to feature this gentleman who made it all the way into Newsweek! Mr Rogers was our oldest resident who had been waiting 5 months to find his family. At 13 yo it took a special family to choose him over the younger population. But sure enough they came. Mr. Rogers is thriving in his home and his new found fame has not gone to his head. Best wishes Mr. Rogers we love and miss you but are so happy for you!”

"Mr. Rogers, you handsome devil, may your remaining days be filled with all the love," commented one viewer.

It might not be Valentine’s Day but love is in the air… or should we say the cat room. 🥰💕😻 Zuko is one of those cats who LOVES other cats. He is ALWAYS with at least one. We have a variety of ages, sizes, and personalities in the cat room and Zuko gets along with them all. He’s very loving and affectionate and likes to rub against his furry friends. He’s also very courteous and can tell when another cat wants space. The other cats know that he is an angel and even the more independent ones will accept his company. He can be shy with people and can be awkward when being picked up, but he is only six months old and could learn to feel differently. Zuko’s life would be greatly enriched if he could find a home with at least one other cat. Since he is still a playful kitten he would enjoy a home with another kitten or younger cat best. Stop in and meet this handsome senior fella named Brutus!

He is a happy, healthy, playful 8-year-old man looking to run his way into your heart. His charming side shows often as he loves to snuggle up for some loving but don't let his age fool you- you often can find him running the play yards with all his favorite toys. Brutus does enjoy having other doggy friends to romp around with and will require a dog to dog meet if there is another dog in the home!

Brutus is happily awaiting his second chance with a furever family!

Meowdy Partner!!

Prince here is unleashing his inner cowboy, one yeehaw at a time. You'll often find him singing "Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong" as he's moseying around the corral.

This cowboy would like to be the only king of the ranch as he does not enjoy having other ranchers on his farm. On his own, Prince is an ideal cat. He's sweet, laid-back, and likes to sit with people. His temperament is calm and quiet. He would rather nap or cuddle than play. He really enjoys being a lap cat and will affectionately rub against you while you're giving him attention.

Today would have been Betty White's 103rd birthday. The creative star’s animal work benefited advancements in veterinary and research science, as well as animal welfare policies and practices.

She was a tireless advocate who worked to improve the lives of both people and animals. Betty’s passion for animals goes back to her early childhood. “There isn’t an animal on the planet that I don’t find fascinating and want to learn more about.” Absolutely, no animals were exempt from her curiosity and compassion, as she worked to better the lives of dogs, cats, horses, and wildlife around the world.
Let us still celebrate her gifts, carry on her legacy—all the smiles and laughs she provided us and all of her efforts to support a kinder, more compassionate world for all living beings.
Please consider donating in Betty's memory to help Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley continue Betty's legacy of love and care.

When we all work together, we really can make a big difference- Our small actions can bring about big change.

Mason doesn’t want his community fur-friends to go without any food- so he’s reaching out for your help! The Pet Food Pantry is 100% donation funded, and by providing dog and cat food to families in need in our community, we are able to help keep pets out of the shelter. We are committed to continuing to keep our pantry open! The rising costs of living, groceries, and of vet bills and pet food have contributed to the high intake numbers seen at shelters across the country.

We will always accept the following donations of cat and dog food.
1. All brands of unopened bags of pet food
2. All brands of unopened cans of wet food
3. All brands of opened food as long as it's in the original packaging
