Stopped by the village of Yellow Springs last weekend to deliver gourmet mushrooms to YS Firehouse @ysfirehouse for a private event. 🍄🟫🔥
YS Firehouse is a new comedy club in Yellow Springs, owned by world-famous comedian and actor, @davechappelle. Over the last several months, the team here has been running a series of preliminary events hosted by Chappelle called “The Soundcheck Series”, which feature famous scheduled and surprise guests in live comedy and live music. These events function as a bit of a “work the kinks out” opportunity for sound, security, etc. as the venue as the club secures the necessary licensing towards their official open.
YS Firehouse has a full kitchen and bar in progress. The Chef here believes in sourcing local Ohio ingredients, so look out for future menu collaborations between Guided By Mushrooms and YS Firehouse in the mushroom world. 🎯

Scenes from this year’s Small Farm & Food Fest at Carriage Hill MetroPark. We had a great time at the booth, meeting with customers and vendors new and old.
We got to pet some goats, horses, and spiders(!) and learn about the farm’s history. We smelled some flowers, enjoyed handmade goods and local meats, and perused native plants.

Over the past several months, we have been working with DNO Produce, a Columbus produce distributor, supplying fresh mushroom boxes that they distribute weekly to food banks via the state-funded OH-CAN program.

We’re showing you how we cut our colonized Golden Oyster mushroom substrate bags before we put them into our climate-controlled fruiting rooms! 🍄🟫☀️
Golds like to grow upward in big clusters, so we are top-fruiting them. Top-fruiting simply means we are cutting the top of the bag off, exposing the top of the substrate bag to oxygen.
We like to cut about an inch below the top of the substrate bag to make sure the mushrooms grow freely and aren’t blocked by the plastic.
The fuzzy mass of white and pale yellow you see that is now exposed will grow into beautiful mushrooms, when given proper conditions.
