Today we celebrate the gift of life Christ gave us. We celebrate His Resurrection. We celebrate His ongoing work at the right hand of the Father. We celebrate that He saved us because He loved us enough to go to the Cross.

Because of the Resurrection, our sins are forgiven, our life has purpose, and our future is full of hope.

The Resurrection is cause for celebration! He is risen! He is risen indeed. Happy Easter to you and family from Heartland Hackney Pony Farm.

Heartland Head of the Class driven by the late Darrel Kolkman. This photo is hanging up in the new AHHS national office. This brought a warm memory to our family today. It reminded us of the many contributions Darrel had given to the Hackney breed throughout the years as a breeder and his love for the Hackney breed.

Heartland Hackney Farm and current breeder Shae Seils (grandson of the late Darrel Kolkman) are honored to be named the National Breeder for 2024. John and Maybelle were life long friends to our family through the years. Both had a passion for breeding and improving the Hackney breed.
Also, we wanted to congratulate our trainer Rich Campbell and the entire team at Majestic Oaks Farm for being named the Trainer of the Year.

The American Hackney Horse Society proudly announces the 2024 AHHS Annual Award Winners.

Heartland Hackney Farm— John H. & Maybelle L. Costello National Breeder Award. Awarded to a breeder of Hackneys who has impacted the breed as a whole by adding valuable characteristics and improving the Hackney through its development. This honoree will have raised notable individuals whose progeny have gone on to great success both in the show ring and breeding world.

Majestic Oaks Team — Bill G. Robinson National Trainer Award
Awarded to a trainer who personifies the training and exhibiting of Hackneys for the year. The Memorial Award was first given in the year 2001.
We will recognize and honor our award winners at the UPHA/AHHS Convention in New Orleans, LA in January. We hope you can come to join us in recognizing and honoring our well-deserved winners.

Today, marks the 5-year remembrance anniversary of the late Darrel Kolkman. His true love for the Hackney breed and his desire through many years of mentoring his two grandchildren lives on today. Grandson Shae Seils, has continued the Heartland Hackney Pony Farm tradition as the farms breeding manager. Growing up along side his grandfather was priceless. Many life lessons have been learned throughput the years and mainly how to run a breeding farm. Shae a agriculture/agronomy graduate from Iowa State University continues breeding over 100 mares a year. Granddaughter Shayla, an agriculture teacher/FFA Adviser has followed Darrel into his second passion for education, where Darrel was a teacher/coach for over 34 years. Shayla continues to help in the summer months. Since Darrel’s passing in 2019, the presence of the Heartland ponies throughout the United States is going strong with over 70 Heartland ponies entered at the World Championship Horse Show in Louisville, Ky each year. Darrel had the passion for breeding and raising the best quality hackney ponies for decades. His happiness truly came in seeing his offsprings in the showring and the happy customers showing their Heartland ponies across the United States. His longtime close relationship with trainer Rich Campbell is still seen as Rich continues to bring our young stock out each year. Darrel was a strong Christian and had put his trust in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at a early age. We have reassurance we will see dad again in heaven alongside our Lord and Savior. During this holiday season as we soon will be celebrating Jesus’ birth. You too can put your trust in God (John 3:16) and have everlasting life for eternity. Dad has shared his faith with many of you throughout his years on earth. God has blessed our farms operation over the years. As today we remember dad, we rejoice in our blessings.
