One of the things we like to do is have a local photographer come out to the farm and take pictures of them as little puppies as keepsakes for their fur-ever families. It’s amazing to see how much they’ll grow in the first few weeks of life.

We celebrate over 4 weeks of life and have received our next dose of dewormer.

We have one male and one female remaining from this litter.

Our last and final planned litter of the year will be Dolly (Black Roan) & Finley (Liver Roan). This will produce both black and liver roan puppies.

Our last two precious babies are available for their fur-ever homes. We have one female - teal - her coloring is coming in nicely and has a solid liver head - she may favor her Dad Finley in coloring. Her brother - lime - is also available for his fur-ever home. His coloring is a little darker and will favor his Mama most likely, for a darker liver roan.

They loved their first try at puppy mush!

We are celebrating 3.5 weeks today! We love to socialize with each other, play and then cuddle up together for sleeping. We are going to try our first puppy mush tonight! Will be sure to post pictures of that. Check out their coloring - coming in so nicely!

We are celebrating a little over 3 weeks old! Our teeth have started to come in, and we’ve become a little active. We can hear and we have found our voices. We enjoy the accompany of each other and we love our Mama. We introduced water to the crew today - most of them played but a few took a few laps up. This week we also introduce puppy mush/gruel and will begin the weaning process.

Here’s what you’ve been asking. Our waiting list has been filled this week. We are super excited for the families that have picked their baby!

Our remaining availability are: 1 male (Lime) and 1 female (Teal).

This will be Ruby’s last litter. Our intentions were only to breed very minimal. This was her second litter and will be her last. She’ll be living her best life with us on the farm in retirement.

Once their eyes open later this week and the activity picks up - we will be adding the color collars to the litter. Here’s a little sneak preview of how they are progressing - they’ve doubled their weight and the coloring is coming in nicely.

The crew had a great run this evening. We couldn’t find Finley for a minute but soon enough we found him relaxing in their baby pool.

8 Days Old - We spend all day sleeping and when we aren’t sleeping we are nursing on Mama. We have doubled in size and our coloring is getting darker.

German Shorthaired Pointers are a breed distinct for their versatile hunting skills and unique coat colors and patterns. The evolution of their coat color in the first few weeks of life is an interesting process.

-Birth to One Week

When German Shorthaired Pointer puppies are born, their coats are typically lighter, and the true color may not be fully evident. Most puppies are born with their primary coat color, which could be liver (a deep brown), black, or a combination of white with either liver or black.

-One Week to Four Weeks

Over the course of the next few weeks, the puppies' coat color may start to darken, and any markings will become more noticeable. This is particularly true for puppies with a ticked or roan coat. Ticking (small spots of color on a white background) and roaning (a fine blend of colored hairs and white hairs) may not be visible at birth but will begin to develop during this period.

-Four Weeks and Beyond

By the time the puppies are about a month old, their coat colors and patterns are generally well established. However, it's important to note that there can be individual variation, and some puppies may continue to see changes in their coat color and pattern intensity until they reach maturity.

It's crucial to remember that a puppy's genetic makeup largely determines coat color and patterns. While the colors and patterns may change slightly as the puppy grows, they will always stay within the range determined by the puppy's genes. And regardless of coat color, every German Shorthaired Pointer is likely to grow into an energetic, intelligent, and loyal companion.

The puppies had their tails docked and dew claws removed. Mama Ruby was not happy about leaving her babies behind but she was all smiles on the way home.
