👑 To officially end Carnival celebrations, New Orleans police officers on foot and mounted on horseback move through the crowds on Bourbon Street at midnight on Mardi Gras Day.

💜 “The Greasing of the Poles, is an annual tradition that takes place during Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

💚It all started as a practical tactic to keep parade-goers from climbing up hotel balconies for a better view.

💛Every year, the Greasing of the Poles contestants are trying to get the first-place title based on their ability to grease the poles properly.

🌪️ Tornado Prep Checklist 🌪️

We are currently under a tornado watch here in New Orleans until 1am. If you haven’t already, you should identify your “shelter room” in the event that the watch turns into a warning.

ID’ing your shelter room or safe space (interior room with no windows) is just the beginning.

Below are 4 focus areas to prepare your shelter room for the worst case scenario:
🌪️ Pets
🌪️ Safety Gear
🌪️ Personal Items
🌪️ Shoes & Weather Appropriate Clothes

🐶 Pets! Bring them in & have a way to secure them in the aftermath of a storm if necessary - leash or kennel.

⛑️ Safety gear like bike helmets, car seats for babies, bottled water to sustain everyone in the shelter for several hours.

📱Personal items to include your wallet, cash, keys (your home may be damaged and your car untouched), a fully charged cell phone.

👟Tennis shoes for everyone in the shelter, if your home is hit, glass may be shattered everywhere. It is also good to be mindful of current weather conditions. Most tornadoes strike in the middle of the night yet your pajamas may not keep you warm if you are exposed to the elements.

Of course you can include items like a first aid kit or Meals Ready to Eat (MREs) but starting with the initial four checklist categories should get you heading in the right direction.

✨TWELFTH NIGHT ✨ Carnival season has officially begun in New Orleans. 👑👑👑

💚 Did you know that today—called Twelfth Night, since it is twelve days after Christmas—is the feast of the Epiphany in the Catholic Church?

💛 Today’s date marks the visit of the Three Wise Men to the Christ child and is AKA Kings’ Day, a fixed date (Jan 6) for the start of Carnival season.

💜 Mardi Gras (French for Fat Tuesday) is a moveable date, always the day before Ash Wednesday and 47 days before Easter Sunday. It can fall as early as February 3 or as late as March 9.

🗓 This year Mardi Gras is Tues, FEB 2️⃣1️⃣🎉

Today we’ll be celebrating in-office with our very first king cake of the season from - we recommend the praline filled 😋

Twelfth Night will kickoff in the city with the St. Joan of Arc Parade marching through the Quarter followed by the Twelfth Night Masquerade Ball and the St. Charles streetcar ride of the Phunny Phorty Phellows. 🥳 Let’s geaux!
